Prince Christian was born on January 22, 1831 in Augustenborg, Als Island, Denmark. He was married to Helena of Schleswig-Holstein. He died on October 28, 1917 in London, England, UK.
Was given permission by Queen Victoria to marry Helena as long as the couple promised to live in Great Britain, as Victoria liked to have her daughters within close proximity to her.
On December 28, 1891, he lost an eye when he was accidentally shot in the face by his brother-in-law Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught during a shooting party at Sandringham.
His mother was the great-great-granddaughter of Christian Gyldenløve, Count of Samsøe (1674-1703), the illegitimate son of King Christian V of Denmark (1646-1699).
