Dhaka, Oct 8 (Ians) Bangladesh’s Odi skipper Tamim Iqbal feels that picking senior cricketers like Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah would have been better for the side ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in Australia later in the month.
Co-incidentally, Rahim retired from T20Is three days after Bangladesh crashed out of Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE while Mahmudullah failed to make the cut for the World Cup after a prolonged lean patch with the bat.
“I told you earlier if Mushfiqur (Rahim), Riyad (Mahmudullah) were there in this big stage like the World Cup, then I think it would have been better. Since you carried such senior cricketers for the whole year, then why (exclude) them just before the World Cup,” Tamim was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz at a private programme in a city hotel.

Perth, Oct 7 (Ians) A day after arriving in Australia, the Indian team commenced its preparation for the Men’s T20 World Cup with their first training session at the Waca Stadium in Perth on Friday.
The Rohit Sharma-led side landed in Australia after departing from Mumbai in the early hours of Thursday without their 15th player in the squad as the replacement for injured pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is yet to be announced.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci) shared a photo of Indian players and support staff looking to begin their training session with the sun shining at its brightest. “Hello and welcome to Waca. #TeamIndia are here for their first training session,” wrote the Bcci on their social media accounts.

India play their first match on October 23 at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground against arch-rivals Pakistan. This is the most crucial match for the Indian side as a defeat in it could put them in deep waters to qualify. The main rivals, thereafter, are South Africa, Bangladesh and possibly the West Indies, if they qualify from their group games.
India should have got over their disappointing performance in the Asia Cup 2022, having beaten Australia and South Africa in a three-match T20I series at home. The only blemish for India was that they lost their last match against South Africa solely due to experimenting with their bench strength players — the reason being that India had already wrapped up the series and felt that they could do with a change.

New Delhi, Oct 6 (Ians) Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar believes that India are in a better position as compared to Pakistan in the batting department ahead of the marquee clash in Men’s T20 World Cup on October 23, saying that the Rohit Sharma-led side have four or five match winners who are in great form.
In less than three weeks, India and Pakistan will be up against each other in their tournament opener of the Super 12 stage in the T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (McG).
While India have players like Rohit Sharma, Kl Rahul, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav hitting form ahead of the showpiece event, Pakistan haven’t got much firepower with the bat apart from captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan with their middle order turning out to be a major weak link.

The 35-year-old had been the leading run-getter in T20Is till India captain Rohit Sharma and talismanic batter Virat Kohli overtook him to claim first and second spots respectively on the list, pushing Guptill to number three.
But with the T20 World Cup coming up and New Zealand to host India for a white-ball series immediately after the showpiece event ends, Guptill, a veteran of 142 T20Is, isn’t too bothered about reclaiming the crown for the leading run-getter in T20Is.
"To be honest, it (being upstaged by Kohli and Rohit in leading T20I run-getters list) doesn’t really bother me too much. My primary focus is to contributing to wins for New Zealand. As long as I can do that, other things take care of themselves. As long as I am contributing to the team and able to score runs, I am happy with that," said Guptill to Ians,...

Indore, Oct 5 (Ians) With a second-string India squad led by Shikhar Dhawan to take on South Africa in the upcoming three-match Odi series at home, it means that all the main members of the squad for the T20 World Cup will depart for Perth on Thursday, where they will be based for a week to adjust to the Australian conditions.
India head coach Rahul Dravid had his say on the side departing early for Australia, explaining that being based in Perth will help the team adapt to the pace and bounce offered by the pitches in Australia, especially with nearly half of the side not having played a T20 game in the country before.
“We will get an opportunity to spend a few days and sessions in Perth and then have a couple of matches there. Australia is quite unique in terms of the pace and bounce on those wickets...

Indore, Oct 5 (Ians) While India’s batting department has developed nicely with the new attacking approach in T20Is against Australia and South Africa, bowling in the death overs continues to be a headache for Rohit Sharma’s side.
With no Jasprit Bumrah in the Asia Cup, they turned to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who conceded plenty of runs in the penultimate over thrice against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and then in the first T20I against Australia at Mohali.
Pacer Harshal Patel recovered from his rib injury and made a comeback through the series against Australia. But Patel, who made a reputation for himself with his death-overs prowess in Ipl and later for India as well, was off his usual controlling self in the death overs against Australia and South Africa.
However, India head coach Rahul Dravid has backed Harshal, saying he’s got the quality and ability and won’t be singled out individually,...

Indore, Oct 5 (Ians) India have time till October 15 to name a replacement for injured pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in their squad for the T20 World Cup starting in Australia later in the month.
After the conclusion of the T20I series against South Africa, head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma have subtly hinted at the possibility of senior pacer Mohammed Shami being promoted from one of the four travelling reserves to the main T20 World Cup squad as Bumrah’s replacement.
Shami was forced to miss India’s recent T20Is against Australia and South Africa due to being infected with Covid-19. The right-arm pacer hadn’t played international cricket since July this year and didn’t feature in T20Is since last year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.
“In terms of who the replacement is, we’ll have a look, we’ll see, we’ve got time until October 15th.

Indore, Oct 4 (Ians) A scintillating maiden T20I century from Rilee Rossouw led South Africa to a convincing 49 run win over India in the third and final T20I and helped them avoid a clean sweep in the three-match series at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, here on Tuesday.
With the win in the first two T20Is, India won the three-match series 2-1. On the other hand, the win in the last game will give the Proteas momentum heading into the upcoming Odi series and also some confidence ahead of the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
A brilliant century from Rossouw (100 not out off 48) and a fine fifty by Quinton de Kock (68 off 43) powered South Africa to 227/3 in 20 overs, after being invited to bat first. Apart from Rossouw and De Kock, Tristan Stubbs (23 off 18) and David Miller (19 not out off 5) also played valuable knocks for South Africa,...

Indore, Oct 4 (Ians) India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first against South Africa in the third and final T20I of the three match series at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, here on Tuesday.
India, who are leading the series made three changes in their side as Shreyas Iyer, Umesh Yadav and Md Siraj came in place of Kl Rahul, Virat Kohli and Arshdeep Singh for this match.
“We’re going to field first. It’s a very high scoring ground, I feel the pitch won’t change a lot so it’s nice to know what target is in front of us. Three changes for us, Kohli and Kl are out, and Arshdeep misses out for some issues with his back. It is precautionary, nothing serious. We’ve got Shreyas Iyer, Umesh Yadav and Siraj in,” said Rohit at the toss.

Mumbai, Oct 4 (Ians) Former India cricketer and ex-selector Saba Karim is certain skipper Rohit Sharma is under tremendous pressure trying to sort out the team’s death-overs bowling riddle in the run-up to the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia from October 16, saying it is posing a lot of “headache” for the team management.
If the death-overs bowling isn’t enough of a problem, India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah too was ruled out of the showpiece event on Monday due to a stress fracture in the back.
“However much he (Rohit Sharma) tries to deny it and tries to give confidence to the bowlers, our death bowling is a big issue. I think it is posing a lot of headaches to the team management and to Rohit Sharma,” said Saba Karim on Sports18’s news show ‘Sports Over The Top’.

Ahmedabad, March 13 (Ians) After a demoralising eight-wicket loss against England in the first T20 International that saw their famed batting flounder badly, India will take on England in the second T20 International at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera on Sunday.
The five-match series is deemed as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India in October-November this year, with the hosts looking to iron out chinks and form a perfect combination.
Virat Kohli's team is also trying to bring in a different philosophy to batting, dishing out power-hitters and not relying on one batsman to hold the innings. That strategy had failed in the first T20I as India failed to put up a big and competitive score after many batsmen perished trying to play big shots.
Kl Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan will again open the innings in the absence of Rohit Sharma,...

The Indian team's remarkable win against England in the recent Test series makes them the strong favourites to win the five-match T20 battle as well. The Indian side comprises many of the players who have done extremely well against England in the longer format and that too at the newly laid pitch of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Indian players are mentally in a very positive frame of mind and have now experienced the pitches in Ahmedabad. Their victory has been a big booster and this itself should make them feel comfortable and confident. England have brought in their specialist limited overs players, and many of them will encounter the difficult conditions in Ahmedabad for the first time.
In both Test matches in Ahmedabad, the wicket was not a typical Indian one. The ball spun sharply and there was awkward bounce as well. This will make batting difficult,...

Ahmedabad, March 11 (Ians) Rohit Sharma and K.L. Rahul will open India's innings in the first T20 International against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Friday with Shikhar Dhawan starting on the bench as reserve opener, confirmed India skipper Virat Kohli.
Ever since the return of Rohit, who missed the T20 International series in Australia, there has been speculation over who will open the innings with him from out of Rahul and Dhawan. Rohit was out injured, nursing his hamstring injury post the Ipl late last year.
"I don't think so (that both Dhawan and Rahul can be fitted in the playing XI). If Rohit plays it is quite simple. Kl and Rohit have been consistently performing for us at the top and those two will start for us. In case of a situation where either Rohit takes rest or Kl has a niggle, (then) Shikhi comes back as third opener.

Ahmedabad, March 11 (Ians) India captain Virat Kohli should express himself with the bat and play with freedom during the five-match T20I series against England, said former batsman Vvs Laxman.
The skipper has assumed the role of an anchor in recent innings that he has played in the shortest format of the game but Laxman feels that India have enough depth in their batting lineup for the 32-year-old right hander to play his strokes.
Kohli is 82 runs away from becoming the first batsman to score 3,000 runs in T20 International cricket.
"I feel that Virat Kohli is a class batsman, he's an outstanding batsman and with depth and quality in the Indian batting line-up, I think he should go and express himself," Laxman said on Star Sports.
"It's not necessary for him to play the anchor role, because we know that he's a stroke player. If he plays with positive intent,...

Ahmedabad, March 11 (Ians) The world's two top-ranked T20 International teams, India (No. 2) and England (No. 1) clash in the first match of the five-match T20I series here at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera on Friday.
The visiting Englishmen who lost the four-match Test series 3-1 are now looking to restore pride under skipper Eoin Morgan, who leads the white ball sides in the five T20Is and three ODIs after taking over from Test captain Joe Root.
The England players are expected to pose a tough challenge for Virat Kohli's boys as their team comprises hard-hitting batsmen who are more adept at playing on flatter surfaces in limited overs games unlike in Test matches where the pitches demanded application against spinners.

Ahmedabad, March 10 (Ians) India opener Rohit Sharma has said that while he has managed to tweak his game a bit in the just-concluded series to suit Test cricket, his approach for T20 cricket will remain the same old one where he will look to give the team a good start especially in the first six overs.
Sharma will be playing his first T20 International after over a year and did not tour Australia for the T20s due to injury. India won that series 2-1.
Speaking ahead of the T20 International series that begins at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera from Friday, the right-handed batsman talked of the challenges he faced during batting in the last Test when he had switch to watchfulness.
"When you have to go against your own nature and have to do things that you are not used to, then it is a small win.

Ahmedabad, March 10 (Ians) India's winning combination from the T20 International series in Australia will definitely change especially in batting with Rohit Sharma coming in as opener and Rishabh Pant likely to don the gloves ahead of K.L. Rahul.
Sharma will open with either Shikhar Dhawan or K.L. Rahul while Pant will most likely play in the middle-order, coming in place of Sanju Samson who played the matches in Australia. He will, however, keep wickets ahead of Rahul who opened in Australia and also kept wickets.
On Wednesday, India vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who is set to feature in a T20 International after a gap of over a year said that Pant has come of age but it is important for others not to put pressure on him and let him be.
"I think if we can let Rishabh Pant be Rishabh Pant, he will come out and give you those performances.

Dubai, Oct 30 (Ians/GloFans) Delhi Capitals will be looking to end their run of defeats and confirm a spot in the playoffs when they face the Mumbai Indians in the 51st match of the Indian Premier League here on Saturday.
With three defeats on the trot, DC have faltered in the latter stage of the league season after dominating for much of it.
While Mi are on top of the table with 16 points, DC (14 points) are at the third place, thanks to their net run-rate which is lower than that of second-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore.
If DC suffer defeats in their next two matches, it is possible that Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) would surpass them on net run-rate, even if the Kl Rahul-led side win only one of their remaining two matches. Heavy defeats in their next two games could even push DC out of the top four if Kolkata...

The 'Lakshmana Rekha', the famous line drawn by Lakshman for Sita not to cross when he went to find Ram in the forest, as mentioned in the Ramayana, seems so synonymous with the way the Indian Premier League's (Ipl) participating sides appear at the moment.
In case of Sita, the sacred line was not to be crossed, similarly, the top teams in the tournament seem to be following the same ritual.
Each side in the Ipl requires at least eight wins to maybe secure a place amongst the last four for the knock-out stage of the tournament. With the Mumbai Indians (Mi), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) languishing earlier at seven wins, with a fair amount of matches to go, one seemed certain that they would all sail into the respective top three slots.

New Delhi, Oct 28 (Ians) Bcci President Sourav Ganguly has been overwhelmed with the response which the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) is getting in terms of viewership and ratings.
The Ipl 2020 edition was initially scheduled to be played in March but following the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus, it was postponed indefinitely.
Later after months of deliberation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to stage the tournament in the United Arab Emirates from September 19 to November 10.
"Unbelievable and I am not surprised at all. When we were discussing with Star (official broadcasters of the Dream11 Ipl 2020) and all the people concerned - if we have to do it this year and one-month prior to the tournament, we were contemplating, whether this can happen or not, what will be the ultimate result of the bio-bubble and will it be successful," Ganguly said while speaking on Star Sports Cricket Live show.

New Delhi, Oct 26 (Ians) Kings XI Punjab's impressive performances under Kl Rahul's captaincy has apparently prompted the national selectors to name him as Virat Kohli's deputy in both Indian limited-over squads for the upcoming Australia tour in the absence of an injured Rohit Sharma.
Sharma has not been named in any of the three squads announced on Monday, and has been kept under observation for his injury.
Rahul, who has represented India in 36 Tests, 32 One-day Internationals, and 42 T20 Internationals, has led from the front in this season's Indian Premier League with 595 runs -- scored at an average of 59.5 -- 124 more than his nearest rival Shikhar Dhawan and is favourite to win the Orange Cap, as of now.
Initially, Rahul had been criticised for not playing Chris Gayle as the team fared poorly but with time, he seems to have gained confidence in his leadership, trying out new things. When...
