Justin shifted his focus from the stage to behind the camera and moved to Las Vegas where he attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Graduating magna cum laude, he received a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Film. Justin's honors thesis focused on the cinematic effects of negative advertising in presidential campaign commercials from 1956 - 2008. Shortly after graduating, Justin attended Florida State University where he received a Masters in Fine Arts in Film Production with an emphasis in writing and directing from the College of Motion Pictures. Since then, Justin has put filmmaking in abeyance and returned his focus to academia, where he is studying at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of JD Rhodes and Brad Epps.
In 2007, Justin married his longtime girlfriend and fellow artist, Yolanda Quintana. They have two children, Santiago Durden Oney and Sofia Tyler Oney, both aptly named after Chuck Palahniuk's famous Fight Club character, Tyler Durden.
