Starz’s Outlander season seven episode four opens with a short time jump to Lallybroch in 1980. Two years have passed since Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) purchased the property, and the family’s living in a mobile home in the front yard while it’s being repaired. Jemmy and Mandy have reached the fighting siblings stage, and Mandy hits her older brother with a stick. Mandy only grudgingly says she’s sorry.
It’s revealed Bree and Roger won’t let the workers paint over the dining room murals or fix a large spot on the wall. There’s still so much work to be done that the estimate’s jumped up to what Bree describes as an “astronomical” figure. They’re halfway through their money and not even close to having bedrooms at this point.

Firstly, I am not a ‘found footage’ genre liker as many think the audience is stupid. The V/H/S anthology series beginning in 2012 was it for me that seeing Followers (2021) was a different experience. Writer-Director Marcus Harben brings the story of a discredited social media influencer named Jonty (Harry Jarvis) who moves into a new house after starting university. When he and his housemates learn their new home is haunted, they use the events to restart Jonty’s fading fame with deadly consequences.
The housemates are all of the various types almost updates of the classic Slasher film kill fodder Jonty (Harry Jarvis), a “Justin Bieber” with a posh accent and tilted ball cap. A scheming pretty boy that the internet loves and that most guys would love to punch, in fact Pete (Daniel Cahill) is the working class, ill-tempered ‘Lager Lad’ who almost does it. Toss in Amber (Erin Austen...

"I'm gonna prove that there's a ghost here – a real one." Terror Films has released a new US trailer for an indie horror comedy titled Followers, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Marcus Harben. After premiering at FrightFest in 2021, it's finally getting a VOD release in the US this spring. From the producers of Anna and the Apocalypse and Monsters, and in the tradition of Get Out and ‘"Black Mirror’", Terror Films' Followers combines horror with black comedy to satirize today's influencer generation while bringing a fresh new spin to the found-footage horror genre. What starts as hilariously bad YouTube videos develops into a warning to the world about a shocking new strain of supernatural serial killer. To create an authentic found footage feel, over 70% of Followers was filmed by the actors themselves. This stars Harry Jarvis (seen in Netflix's Knight Before Christmas), Loreece Harrison, Erin Austen, Daniel Cahill,...

While checking the local cinema listings for Ti West’s new slasher movie X, I noticed that another horror movie was getting a theatrical release in the UK… Followers is that movie and it tells the story of a social media influencer and the house he shares with three other people. Desperate to get rich and become famous, this starts to become a reality when the house is seemingly haunted. More views, more likes and more followers follow but something even more sinister is waiting in the wings.
As the movie heavily features social media, it’s no surprise that this is a modern take on the found footage genre. All footage is either from people’s phones (often as screenshots from video comments or as text...

High-tech but predictable satire with social media twist aims for Paranormal Activity but fails to skewer its subject
It’s surprising that there hasn’t yet been a classic film about influencers, with these modern-day narcissists now regularly being put in the cinematic pillory in the way sleazy politicians, greedy financiers or fictional movie stars once were. This frenetic horror-comedy debut by Marcus Harben – who sadly died last year – has a few sharp moments, but never quite reconciles its two sides to cleanly deliver the social-media skewering it’s obviously itching to.
Posh-boy influencer twerp Jonty (Harry Jarvis), permanently skewed of baseball cap, is a minor-league entity online as he continues his “journey” at college. But he is in his element when he moves into a house with documentarian Zauna (Loreece Harrison) and fellow vlogger Amber (Erin Austen). Get ready, everyone: Netflix's The Knight Before Christmas might have a sequel on the way. The latest holiday rom-com from Netflix features Vanessa Hudgens as Brooke, a modern-day science teacher who meets Sir Cole (Josh Whitehouse), a medieval knight who has been magically sent to the future. Of course, magic and romance ensue, and as it turns out, there are already ideas in motion for what could come in a sequel.
Director Monika Mitchell revealed her idea for a The Knight Before Christmas sequel to Glamour - and it's probably not quite what you'd think. While the natural progression for a sequel might see more of Cole's adaptation to the modern world, or perhaps cast Brooke back in time for a reversal of the original, Mitchell suggests that a different focus might be ahead:
"Of course I can see a sequel. I think Harry Jarvis is definitely involved because...

"Who are we to tell him he's not who he says he is?" Netflix has revealed a trailer for the holiday romantic comedy The Knight Before Christmas, which looks more like a Hallmark Channel movie than anything Netflix should be making. It's as cheesy as they come. After a sorceress transports a medieval knight Sir Cole to present-day Ohio during the holiday season, he befriends a clever and kind science teacher who's been disillusioned by love. As they grow closer, so do their feelings for each other. Can their love overcome all the odds? Of course it can, that's how all these movies end. Starring Vanessa Hudgens as the teacher, Josh Whitehouse as the knight, and a cast including Emmanuelle Chriqui, Isabelle Franca, Ella Kenion, Harry Jarvis, and Jean-Michel Le Gal. This looks face-palm terrible with the most predictable of plots. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Monika Mitchell's The Knight Before Christmas,...

‘High Strung Free Dance’ Film Review: Toe-Tapping Dance Saga Shimmies Between Sublime and Ridiculous
There are two kinds of people in this crazy, mixed-up world of ours: The people who love the dance movie “High Strung” and the people who are only just now hearing about it for the first time.
It’s a bizarre, bright and unabashedly sincere modern cult classic about a dance student who teams up with a rebellious violinist to rock New York City at the intersection where popping, locking and string instrumentation collide. Find another movie where an impromptu fiddle feud breaks out in the midst of a snooty party, where all the working-class servers suddenly break out into a perfectly choreographed routine that culminates in an awkward flying kick into a platter full of champagne flutes. You’ll be looking for a long, long time, mark my words.
So needless to say, the bar was set very high for the new sequel, “High Strung Free Dance.” The follow-up...

"All I need is a shot!" Gvn Releasing has debuted an official trailer for an indie romantic drama titled High Strung Free Dance, a sequel of sorts to the dance romance movie High Strung from 2016. This time the romance is between a talented pianist and an up-and-coming dancer - in that other movie it was between a violinist and a ballerina. In Free Dance, Zander Raines, a dazzling and tempestuous young choreographer unwittingly ignites a romantic rivalry with his pianist, Charlie, when he embraces a stunning contemporary dancer, Barlow, as his muse for his innovative new Broadway show: Free Dance. The cast includes Thomas Doherty, Harry Jarvis, Juliet Doherty, Jane Seymour, Ace Bhatty, plus Desmond Richardson. This is so cheesy and extravagant and all showbiz, which might be just what excites a few of you. Dance on. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Michael Damian's High Strung Free Dance,...

"Can you save my life?" 4Digital Media has debuted an official Us trailer for a "family adventure" movie titled 2 Hours, also known as 2:Hrs. The plot is a bit odd: three school friends ditch classes, and somehow stumble into the lab of a mad scientist lady. There they discover her latest invention, The Vitalitron, which predicts the time of death of any living creature. Tim discovers he only has two hours left to live, so he and his mates create a bucket list that will cram a lifetime into the next two hours. Anyone want to bet that he doesn't die at the end of two hours, but learns a few lessons along the way? What an original idea. Starring Harry Jarvis, Ella-Rae Smith, Alhaji Fofana, Keith Allen, Siobhan Redmond, Seann Walsh, Marek Larwood, and Kirsty Dillon. 2018 has been, yet again, another fantastic year for movies. There has been some great films in the cinema, on DVD and VOD and the film festivals we’ve covered have been jam-packed with quality movies. Which makes it Very hard to narrow down a list of the Top 10 of the year! Even moreso when it comes to Dtv releases…
So, with that being said, I’ve decided that this year I’d split my picks into two distinct lists – the ten best films I saw this year, be it at the local multiplex or at film festivals; and the ten best direct-to-market titles of the year, be they DVD or VOD. The only other criteria is that we’ve covered the film here on Nerdly.
