He earned a Master of Arts degree in Ancient History in 1992 from the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Ancient Israel and Egyptology, and a Master of Arts in 1998 and Ph.D. in 2004 in Hebrew Bible and Semitic Languages from the University of Wisconsin.
