Chip and Joanna Gaines have scored their first-ever Emmy nominations.
The married home-renovation stars scored an outstanding structured reality program nod Tuesday for their Magnolia Network original series “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home,” which is a revival of their fan-favorite HGTV show. Previously, their HGTV hit “Fixer Upper” was nominated for structured reality program by the Television Academy in 2017 and 2018, but the Gaineses were not producers on that show and thus did not receive an Emmy nomination themselves.
Tuesday’s Emmy nomination for “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home” marks the first for Chip and Joanna Gaines, but not for their new network, which has already won a Daytime Emmy. In one of the most head-scratching reporting changes under the new Warner Bros. Discovery leadership, Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network has moved from the Discovery to the Warner Bros. side of the company under HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys. Upon closer examination, the move, which could lead to a Magnolia-branded hub on HBO Max and the Gaines’ dipping their toe in scripted programming, is not that shocking. It just took the couple two mergers and three relationships to get there.
The Gaines’ Discovery journey began in July 2017 when the company announced that they had agreed to acquire Scripps, whose flagship network was HGTV, and the network’s flagship show was the Gaines’ Fixer Upper. It was supposed to be a very brief journey; less than two months later, the Gaines’ announced that they were ending Fixer Upper and leaving HGTV.

Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network will move under HBO’s purview upon the completion of Discovery’s acquisition of WarnerMedia, which will result in the launch of Warner Bros. Discovery on Monday, Variety has learned exclusively.
Allison Page, president of Magnolia, which is a joint venture between the Gaineses and Discovery, Inc., will report directly to HBO and HBO Max chief Casey Bloys. Bloys is one of the few top WarnerMedia execs still standing following this week’s mass exodus ahead of the Discovery-WarnerMedia merger’s close, which was capped off by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav revealing his new leadership team.
The fact that Bloys will be heading up the lifestyle brand from the “Fixer Upper” stars is notable, given that Magnolia Network is so deeply tied to Discovery. It has a linear channel under the Discovery lineup and its streaming app exists inside the Discovery Plus platform.

Magnolia Network, Discovery’s joint venture with Chip and Joanna Gaines, will light up as a linear pay-tv network on January 5, 2022.
The channel’s debut — a rare event in an era of streaming fixation and a shrinking pay-tv bundle, will come in the form of a rebrand of Discovery’s existing DIY Network. The first show to air on Magnolia will be Fixer Upper: Welcome Home, which returns the Gaineses to the hosting role that helped make them stars of TV and branded merchandise.
The launch is among Discovery’s many significant moves in 2021. At the start of the year, the company launched direct-to-consumer streaming service Discovery+, which includes select Magnolia programming. The company has also entered into an agreement to combine with WarnerMedia in a new entity to be spun out from AT&T. The companies expect regulatory approval of the transaction by mid-2022.

As media companies throw more of their firepower into new streaming-video behemoths, some of them still maintain a fondness for good ol’ TV networks.
Discovery and home-renovation gurus Chip and Joanna Gaines are moving ahead with the planned launch of their Magnolia Network, which will replace cable’s DIY on January 5, 2022 at 9 p.m. eastern. The outlet’s first offering will be “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home.”
Magnolia launched earlier this year on the Discovery Plus streaming service and a separate, dedicated Magnolia app, with more than 150 hours of unscripted programming devoted to home, design and gardening, among other household topics. But a linear cable network remains key to the endeavor, which aims to take the Gaines — best known for their “Fixer Upper” series on HGTV — and put them at the center of a home-arts programming universe in much the same way others tried to do with Martha Stewart and other domestic-arts gurus.

Joanna Gaines’ cooking show “Magnolia Table” has been renewed by Magnolia Network for two more seasons.
We suppose it helps when you own the network, which she and husband Chip Gaines do, in partnership with Discovery, Inc.
Season 2 episodes will debut on April 9 on Discovery+, which houses Magnolia content. Season 3 will be made available on July 15, which is the same date the Magnolia app launches. It will still live within Discovery+.
Watch the “Magnolia Table” Season 2 trailer above.
“Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines” is produced by the Gaineses’ production company Blind Nil.

Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network app (finally) revealed a launch plan on Thursday, when we found out the digital offering will precede the January 2022 DIY Network rebranding on linear cable. Additionally, we learned that the Magnolia app, which you can download this summer, will be a free add-on to the paid Discovery+ streaming service.
Previously, the concept appeared to include an option for consumers to pay for Magnolia programming in a standalone manner. Magnolia Network president Allison Page told TheWrap the plan experienced an “evolution to free,” and not so much a “shift.”
“A direct-to-consumer offering was something we envisioned from the beginning, we just thought we were going to start with linear and then move to the app. It was not determined that it would be paid, we kind of stayed open to all options as we went along. So that wasn’t a shift as much as an evolution,...

For viewers wondering when they can immerse themselves in a soothing loop of shiplap, farm-to-table food and rosy-cheeked gardeners harvesting flowers in the country, Chip and Joanna Gaines’ joint venture with Discovery, Magnolia Network, has finally gotten a new launch date after delaying an October start. Chip and Joanna Gaines are reviving one of the most popular TV shows in the lifestyle genre.
The pair are working on a new season of Fixer Upper for their upcoming network, Magnolia, which is set to bow in 2021.
The network, a joint venture between the couple, and Discovery Inc., will have a linear and digital launch.
“The day we wrapped our final episode of Fixer Upper, we really believed it was a chapter closed," said the Gaineses.
"We knew we needed a break and a moment to catch our breath. But we also knew we weren’t done dreaming about ways to make old things new again."
"These past few years, we’ve continued tackling renovations and projects, doing the work we’re passionate about, but I don't think either of us anticipated how the show would become such a permanent fixture in our hearts."

One of the biggest reality series of the past decade is coming back. Chip and Joanna Gaines are reviving their hugely popular HGTV series Fixer Upper for a new season on a new network.
The Fixer Upper reboot will air exclusively on Magnolia Network, Discovery’s joint venture with the Gaineses, and will premiere at the network’s launch, currently eyed for early 2021. Magnolia, whose original Oct. 4 rollout was delayed by the coronavirus-related production shutdown, also announced two new original series greenlights, to an untitled project featuring interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn and Self Employed (wt) with entrepreneur Jonathan Morris.

The couple came to the decision just a few weeks ago after realizing how much they missed the show, Magnolia Network president Allison Page tells Variety. The slate of programming for “Fixer Upper” stars Chip and Joanna Gaines’ upcoming Magnolia TV network is growing — and still includes no home renovation shows.
On Thursday, the Gaineses and Discovery, Inc. revealed that the second show they’ve ordered for their upcoming channel, which launches Oct. 4, is called “Growing Floret,” a series set at Floret Flower Farm in Washington state — so *not* at Chip and Jo’s home in Waco, Texas — one of the most successful organic flower farms in the United States.
The show follows the farm’s founder. Erin Benzakein, and her team “as they attempt to tackle their newest and most ambitious venture to date: Turning more than 20 acres of newly acquired, chemically damaged and overfarmed land into an extension of their fully functioning, self-sustaining, organic flower farm…and they have one year (i.e. one full growing cycle) to get the job done.”
