Patrick Somerville, creator of the HBO series “Station Eleven” and the Netflix show “Maniac,” was among a slew of Hollywood writers to weigh in late Monday after the Writers Guild of America went on strike, saying the union’s negotiating points firmly lined up with reason — and the studios knew it.
“We’re going to do this because our guild is strong enough to do it,” said Somerville, who had changed his Twitter ID to “Strikerick Somverville” in an apparent writerly flourish. “The ask is level-headed, and even they know that we’re right. Collective action is the one place they can’t win.”

Minutes after the Writers Guild of America declared it was on strike, members lit up social media with vows to stay strong as they prepare to hit the picket lines on Tuesday.
News of the strike, which takes effect later this evening, came late Monday after the guild’s negotiations with the AMPTP failed to reach an agreement on a new film and scripted TV contract. It’s the WGA’s first strike since the 100-day walkout of 2007-08.
Reaction on Twitter was swift. “Here we go,” wrote David Simon. “See you all on the pavement, my brothers and sisters.” He followed it with the hashtag #WGAstrong.
Some expressed fear but that was quickly replaced by resolve, as scribes encouraged fellow members to ignore the spin “that’s already coming out.”

A new story is emerging from the centuries-old legends of King Arthur, namely his mythic sage Merlin. The prophet's supernatural powers (to include future-telling and shape-shifting), it seems, are transferrable -- and a small-town coroner will be the recipient in "Delia Graves and the Order of Merlin," a new NBC drama in development from Phillip Iscove (he of "Sleepy Hollow") and filmmaker Justin Lin of the "Fast and Furious" movies. Lin is under contract at Universal Television, so that'll be the backing studio. Iscove also has an executive producing credit, along with Lin and Andrew Schneider under Lin's Perfect Storm...

HBO Max released the first trailer for upcoming comedy series “Minx,” starring Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson.
Set in 1970s Los Angeles, “Minx” follows Joyce (Lovibond) — a young feminist activist looking to launch a women’s magazine. When she can’t find anyone to publish her idea as is, she ends up teaming with a low-rent pornographic magazine publisher Doug (Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women. But when their creation “Minx” launches, it proves a lightning rod of controversy as protestors aim to shut it down.
The trailer shows Lovibond and Johnson’s characters launching the magazine and auditioning models, while teasing the tense dynamic between the two.
“God you love a pyrrhic victory,” Lovibond says to Johnson in the trailer. “I don’t know what that means so it doesn’t hurt my feelings,” Johnson replies.

The Sleepy Hollow TV show was cancelled, yesterday. Now, co-creator Phillip Iscove, has shared his feelings about the show, making sure to thank the cast, crew, and fans for the supernatural series' four season run. He's not alone, either. Actor Phillip Mears is also reaching out, in the wake of the news that there will be no Sleepy Hollow, season five. A historical fantasy drama, Sleepy Hollow stars Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane. The Fox cast also includes: Janina Gavankar, Lyndie Greenwood, Jerry MacKinnon, Rachel Melvin, Oona Yaffe, Jeremy Davies, and John Noble. After star Nicole Beharie departed the series at the end of season three, the possibility of even a fourth season was up in the air, so their gratitude is a lovely grace note. Read More…...

Nicole Beharie‘s Abbie Mills may be dead, but “Sleepy Hollow” is actually very much still alive. Fox has renewed its supernatural drama for a fourth season, a show that many (once again) thought would head to the graveyard instead. Sans former female lead Beharie, “Sleepy” stars Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane, Lyndie Greenwood as Jenny Mills, Lance Gross as Daniel Reynolds and Jessica Camacho as Sophie Foster. The 20th Century Fox Television and K/O Paper Products series hails from Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Len Wiseman and Phillip Iscove. The first three executive produce the show, as do Clifton Campbell,...

For those unfamiliar, Sleepy Hollow is a Fox TV series; it’s an adaptation of the Washington Irving short story, ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’, which has been adapted many times before, most notably the 1999 Tim Burton film Sleepy Hollow. Titan Books has released Sleepy Hollow: Creating Heroes, Demons & Monsters by Tara Bennett and Paul Terry, looking at the series and I am reviewing the book.

"Sleepy Hollow" creator Phillip Iscove will next tackle a TV series adaptation of the classic H.G. Wells book "The Island of Dr. Moreau" for CBS.
The story shifts the story to the modern era and switches the gender of the title character - centering on the fiercely intelligent and fearless Dr. Katherine Moreau.
This Moreau uses a privately funded island hospital to expand the boundaries of medicine through bold and revolutionary scientific experimentation and treatments.
The original 1896 book followed a man shipwrecked on an island where he finds a scientist who creates human-like hybrid beings from animals.
The series has a script commitment which Iscove will pen and executive produce. Frank Marshall and Robert Zotnowski will also executive produce.

CBS is developing a drama series based on the 1896 H.G. Wells novel The Island of Dr. Moreau, to be penned by Sleepy Hollow co-creator Phillip Iscove.
Whereas the novel revolved around a shipwreck survivor who finds himself making camp on the titular scientist’s island home/laboratory, from which are “born” assorted frightening human/animal hybrids, our sister site Deadline says that CBS’ take will follow the “fiercely intelligent and fearless” Dr. Katherine Moreau as she dabbles in revolutionary scientific experimentation at her privately funded island hospital.
Which to me sounds like “no Leopard-Man.

Fox has committed to more outings of its mystery-adventure series Sleepy Hollow, as today the network announced that the show has been granted a season 3 renewal. The third season has been earmarked for 18 episodes which are set to further explore Ichabod Crane’s relationship with Lieutenant Abbie Mills. It will also mark the introduction of new showrunner Clifton Campbell.
Campbell, creator of The Glades, takes over the position from Mark Groffman. The former showrunner is thought to have exited due to poor ratings during its second season, which saw a staggering 40% drop following a promising debut season.
With a fresh set of eyes serving the tale of Crane and his cohorts, Fox’s President of Entertainment David Madden is confident that the show will continue to break the mould:

This isn’t the case as the Horseman’s probing reveal Ichabod’s deepest fears and yet another dark secret from his past. “Necromancer” also explores the idea of free will vs. destiny using the undead cop Andy Brooks (John Cho) and Ichabod’s wife Katrina (Katia Winter) as case studies. Yes, of course it’s a ridiculous premise, but Sleepy Hollow is easily my favorite new show of the season, and not just because I started out with pretty low expectations. While it doesn’t have the futuristic science and often nauseatingly horrifying effects of Fringe, it does have a Fringe kind of look and feel and dialog style, maybe because it was created by two of Fringe‘s co-creators (Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman) and many of its producers and other behind-the-scenes-people.
And squeeingly, starting this coming Monday, Sleepy Hollow will also have one of Fringe‘s stars, John Noble:
TV Spot: Sleepy Hollow – The Horseman Returns!
If you haven’t been watching yet, you’ll want to catch up before Monday. While the Five Episodes in Five Minutes featurette below gives you a general idea, you don’t get much of the humor, great dialogue, or chemistry.

Wiseman has played a key role in the pickup and success of Sleepy Hollow. The Fox network execs are becoming increasingly beloved here at SciFiMafia.com, as today they announced more good news: Sleepy Hollow has been renewed for a second season. It’s the first Fox show of the season to get a renewal, which shows their faith in the new show that is my favorite of the season.
There is one downside, however; their renewal now for a 13-episode Season 2 means that Season 1 will remain a 13-episode season, and won’t get a “back nine” pickup. But that’s okay, 13-episode seasons tend to be tighter, and Yay It’S Been Renewed.

And the first pickup for a new series this fall goes to — Fox‘s drama Sleepy Hollow. But instead of the standard back 9 order, the adventure series is getting a second-season renewal for at least 13 episodes. Sleepy Hollow is part of Fox’s strategy for shorter, largely uninterrupted, cable-style runs. It was designed to air its 13-episode first season in the fall before another drama series ordered under the same template, The Following, returns in the Monday 9 Pm hour — likely in January. Given the success of Sleepy Hollow, it probably was tempting to try and extend its freshman season to the standard 22 episodes, but Fox brass stuck with their original plan. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who co-created Sleepy Hollow with the pilot’s director Len Wiseman and Phillip Iscove but are now under an overall deal at CBS TV Studios, are on board for Season 2. Dr. Maura Vega is on the ledge of a 10-story building, threatening to jump. She will only speak to Abby. Abby has never met Dr. Vega and has no idea who this woman is, but goes to work. Sleepy Hollow, Season 1, Episode 3: “Blood Moon″
Written by Phillip Iscove and Jose Molina
Directed by John F. Showalter
Airs Mondays at 9:00 Pm Et on Fox
“For the Triumph of Evil” brings the weird back to Sleepy Hollow as Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) investigate a series of strange of coincidences that are connected to Abbie and her sister Jennifer Mills (Lyndie Greenwood). Much of the plot happens in various characters’ dreams and involves a spirit known as the Sandman. This episode’s strengths are the visual effects and Phillip Iscove and Jose Molina’s ability to use a “monster of the week” episode to flesh out a character’s backstory while simultaneously adding more mystery to the overall season arc. However, the episodes does have some flaws. There is a jarring tonal shift in the third act of the episode where the story shifts...

I don’t see how news gets much better than this. John Noble, who played the beloved Walter in Fringe, as well as countless excellent portrayals of a wide range of characters over the years, not the least of which was the mad Denethor in the Lord of the Rings films, has been cast in a recurring role in my favorite new series of the season, Roberto Orci‘s and Alex Kurtzman‘s Sleepy Hollow.

Veteran actor John Noble, famous for his acclaimed tenure as eccentric scientist “Walter Bishop” on the Fox cult-classic “Fringe,” will appear in a recurring guest-starring role on the new hit drama Sleepy Hollow. First and foremost, welcome to a new dedicated TV blog on HeyUGuys. You may have noticed the amount of television content increasing on the site over the past few months, and with a raft of new shows arriving in the coming weeks as part of the new Fall TV season across the pond, we felt there was no time like the present to launch the Flashes Before Your Eyes blog. The first new network show, Sleepy Hollow, debuted on Fox on Monday night, so that’s where we’ll begin.

In This Episode...
Hudson Valley, New York. The year is 1781 and the Revolutionary War is raging. Ichabod Crane, fighting for the Colonies, shoots a huge masked mercenary off his horse. This doesn’t slow him down, so Ichabod cuts off his head. When we next see Ichabod, he is digging his way out of a cave and stumbles onto a paved road. Welcome to modern day Sleepy Hollow.
Lieutenant Abby Mills of the Sleepy Hollow Police Department is having a snack with the sheriff when they are called out to a local farm, where the horses are spooked. Sleepy Hollow, Season 1, Episode 1: “Pilot″
Written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Phillip Iscove
Directed by Len Wiseman
Airs Mondays at 9:00 Pm Et on Fox
Sleepy Hollow‘s pilot is an exercise in dualities. The premise of the show is a mix between Washington Irving’s two famous short stories “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “Rip Van Winkle”. It features Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and the Headless Horseman as protagonist and antagonist, but in this version of Crane has been sleeping for centuries like Rip Van Winkle and also wakes up to a very different world than the one he formerly inhabited. There also shifts and dualities in genre. There are shifts from action to police procedural to horror and even fish out of water comedy. The transitions between genres can be a bit jarring, and the writers have the characters solve the mystery quickly through an...

Another season, another conspiracy to end the world. That’s not the fatigue of so much Apocalypse Pop talking: In the grim noir world of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow — which premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on Fox — U.S. history is reimagined as the product of a never-ending, always stalemating supernatural shadow war, pitting truth-keeping, true believing patriots against black magic terrors bent on annihilating us from creation. At least, that’s what the “good guys” say. The bad guys have yet to speak…maybe because they’re lacking for heads. Say hello to what could be the season’s...

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.
Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.
Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

Fox have had quite a week. After announcing they had secured Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., they scored further points by treating fans to a teaser trailer. Expanding on the original story, the show will follow on from Irving Washington’s tale of soldier Crane as he battles against the fearful Headless Horseman. Two centuries pass and Crane is resurrected and must continue his fight against his age-old nemesis. This time around he teams up with a cop to put a stop to the Horseman’s latest spate of beheadings.

Some of today’s most inventive directors working in film have smoothly segued from motion pictures to series TV and their new shows have found a home at Fox. What caught my attention were the sci-fi, fantasy shows bearing the names of Abrams, Shyamalan, Kurtzman and Orci.
Among the network’s lineup is M. Night Shyamalan’s new event series Wayward Pines. Set to premiere in 2014 and based on the best-selling novel, “Pines,” by Blake Crouch, Wayward Pines is an intense, mind-bending thriller in which nothing is what it seems. Also on the Fox schedule is the...

All of the major networks are making announcements related to their fall programming schedules and Fox will be airing a new Sleepy Hollow TV series later this year. We already brought you the first casting and story news, and now we have the first photos from the pilot episode:
“From co-creators/executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (the Star Trek and Transformers franchises, Fringe), the thrilling new action-adventure Sleepy Hollow is a modern-day retelling of Washington Irving’s classic. Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to find that the world is on the brink of destruction and that he is humanity’s last hope, forcing him to team up with a contemporary police officer (Nicole Beharie) to unravel a mystery that dates all the way back to the founding fathers. Sleepy Hollow is from K/O Paper Products in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

Atta Fox, well done. They have announced their new series pickups, and they include two shows we’ve been following. In fact, they are two of the series we were most excited about, so Woo Hoo! Both come from former Fringe executive producers, and one features a favorite movie star, whose latest movie premieres next week…
That would be Karl Urban, Star Trek‘s Bones, and his show is the project formerly known as Inhuman, then just Human, and now/currently Almost Human; it’s the buddy cop robot show. Executive producers are J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Fringe, etc etc) and J.H. Wyman (former Fringe showrunner).
The other is Sleepy Hollow, the modern-day retelling version we’ve been telling you about, from Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers, Fringe). Here are the details from Fox, via Deadline:
