Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for its record-breaking 21st season. Although this may sound like good news, fans of the medical drama megahit are not happy. The fans feel as if the show has run its course and it is time for it to end. The stars of Grey’s Anatomy may feel the same way and it has been suggested the show start preparing for members of the cast to leave.
Shondaland Should Get Smaller
Fans of Grey’s Anatomy are over it. They no longer want the ABC medical drama, created by Shonda Wilson, to continue. Their reasons vary from fan to fan, but the consensus appears most of them will be willing to say to say goodbye to the show.
The debate about when Grey’s Anatomy “jumped the shark” has been up for debate for quite some time now. That debate is moot. The series has been renewed for another season.

What is it about a woman in charge that brings out the critics?
No matter the genre, you can always find a female lead character that gets a strong negative audience response. Call it a hot take, but we think a lot of those women deserved better than the treatment they got.
Let's be real; some of these characters are children. How terrible could they really be?
These unpopular ladies definitely deserved better from fans, and we're prepared to die on that hill.
Here's why we'll stan these women 'til the end, even if we're the only ones.
Maggie Pierce: Grey's Anatomy
The condemnation thrown at Maggie Pierce was always over the top, especially considering she's a young, gifted, Black surgeon with a complicated past whose unrelenting optimism should have charmed viewers.
It's totally understandable that folks didn't love the Ellis-Richard-love-child storyline she brought with her to Grey's Anatomy, but...

"Grey's Anatomy" alum Jesse Williams balances his busy acting career with being a father of two. The star made his onscreen debut on "Law & Order" in 2006 and later became a household name after landing the role of Jackson Avery in "Grey's Anatomy," which he starred in from 2009 to 2022. Along with his role on the long-lasting medical drama, Williams has also appeared in a variety of films, ranging from "The Butler" to "Secret Headquarters," and most recently, Netflix's "Your Place or Mine." Off screen and on stage, Williams recently played Darren Lemming in the 2022 revival of "Take Me Out," which earned him a Tony nomination for best featured actor in a play.
When he isn't working, Williams shares parenting duties with his ex-wife, Aryn Drake-Lee. The two met in 2007 and married in September 2012, as reported by People. The two kept their relationship out of the spotlight and privately welcomed their two children,...

Jesse Williams has a history of playing heartthrobs in movies, from his debut as Leo in "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and his breakout role as the ripped and charming plastic surgeon Jackson Avery to his latest role as Tobert in season three of "Only Murders in the Building." Life imitates art, because the former school teacher is a bonafide heartthrob in real life, too. But life imitates art in other ways, too. Just like his "Grey's Anatomy" character Jackson, Williams's love life has had its ups and downs.
Since Williams is a TV star, it's sometimes impossible to keep details about his relationships out of the press, like the case of his divorce from his partner of 13 years, Aryn Drake-Lee - or the extended custody battle that ensued over their two kids afterward. Actually, these types of "leaks" happen to Williams a lot in life, and not just...

[This story contains spoilers for “Grab Your Hankies,” the third episode of the third season of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.]
Only Murders in the Building showrunner John Hoffman is sharing Jesse Williams’ reaction to the Grey’s Anatomy reference in season three of the hit series.
During the third episode, Meryl Streep’s Loretta Durkin learned that she landed an audition for an “offshoot of an offshoot of a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff,” called Grey’s New Orleans: Family Burn Unit.
“It’s for the mother of a dermatologist, so she has a backstory. And lines!” Loretta tells Martin Short’s Oliver in the episode. “And the producers said they might give her a limp, so… it’s juicy!”
John Hoffman revealed to TV Line, in an interview published online Tuesday, that Williams, who plays documentarian Tobert on Only Murders, was “howling at the reference” while they were doing a table read prior to filming.
“Jesse was very sweet about that,” he added. “And it’s a real homage.

Meredith Grey performed her “last” surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital during the winter premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” on Thursday. But Ellen Pompeo’s final episode as a series regular felt more like a “see you later,” leaving plenty of questions unanswered and the door open for her character’s return.
ABC promoted the episode, titled “I’ll Follow the Sun,” as Meredith’s big farewell to Seattle. Previews for the hour paid homage to the many traumatic moments, goodbyes, accomplishments and near-death experiences the doctor has procured across 19 seasons and over 400 episodes, but the hour itself played more like real life — with a dose of romantic comedy frustration.
The installment began as Meredith and her children arrived at the hospital for her last day on the job, in the aftermath of her longtime Seattle home sustaining damage in a fire. In a conversation with love interest Dr. Nick Marsh...

[Warning: The below contains major spoilers for the Grey’s Anatomy Season 19, Episode 5, “When I Get to the Border.”] Now we know why Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital on Grey’s Anatomy. Whether it’ll be a temporary or permanent departure, though, remains to be seen! But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. It’s one of a few different schools they’re checking out as they try to find a more supportive environment for a student as gifted as Zola is. And while Zola spends a school day with her possible new classmates, Mer checks in with an old friend who lives there in Beantown: Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams). Are you ready for some more Jackson Avery and Tom Koracick?
ABC has dropped a teaser and photos for Grey's Anatomy Season 19 Episode 5, airing November 3 at 9 p.m.
The photos showcase a trip to Boston that brings Jackson and Koracick back into the fold.
"Bailey and Addison take a road trip to volunteer at a family planning center, but a patient’s ectopic pregnancy leads to complications.," the official logline reads.
"Elsewhere, the interns play detective about Lucas’ relationship with Amelia, and Meredith catches up with Jackson on a trip to Boston."
It's becoming increasingly apparent that no one is ever truly gone from Grey Sloan Memorial, so it's nice to check back in with people who were big figures on the show.
Undoubtedly, Meredith and Jackson have a lot to catch up on, and hopefully, we will get some Japril updates.

Although it may have once appeared to be a one-and-done season, "Only Murders in the Building" has come into its own as a successful multi-season series. Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, the mystery comedy-drama recently wrapped up its second season and took us back to the sprawling NYC-based apartment complex of the Arconia where our favorite group of true-crime-obsessed strangers-turned-friends resides.
There's our washed-up former actor Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), the over-enthusiastic Broadway director Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and the secretive Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), who, together, launch their podcast to solve a murder in their building. "Only Murders in the Building" works as a compelling whodunit mystery that doesn't give away its secrets as soon as viewers would like, teetering on the edge of possibilities, injecting both wit and silliness into a group of vibrant amateur sleuths who will do anything to investigate the truth. With the...

While many shows close the door when a character is written out, gone never means truly gone for ABC's Grey's Anatomy.
TV Line reports that Greg Germann is the latest star to return to the series.
Germann joined the series during its 14th season in a recurring capacity before being upped to series regular for seasons 16-17 before departing the show.
He guest-starred on Grey's Anatomy Season 18, and will return once again during Grey's Anatomy Season 19.

Grey’s Anatomy may be all about what’s new in Season 19, but it’s still remembering its past. Greg Germann will be returning as Dr. Tom Koracick for a guest spot in the episode airing on November 3, according to TVLine. That episode will also see Jesse Williams returning as Dr. Jackson Avery. (Williams will also be directing the episode.) They both initially left in the same Season 17 episode, both heading for Boston; Jackson took over the Catherine Fox Foundation, and Koracick went to work with him. Both have also been back since, with Koracick last seen as part of last season’s storyline involving Dr. Hamilton (Peter Gallagher). As for what brings Koracick back in November in “When I Get to the Border,” he “reaches out to Catherine (who is in Boston) regarding a personal matter,” according to the report. It's hard to believe, but "Grey's Anatomy" is back for its 19th season! The long-running medical drama is shaking things up in a big way as it launches its latest season. Ellen Pompeo will be scaling back her time on the show, meaning her lead character Meredith Grey will only be in eight of the planned 19 episodes for the season, but veteran "Grey's" character Dr. Jackson Avery (played by Jesse Williams) returns in a major way to help fill the void Pompeo's absence throughout the season leaves.
Still, "Grey's" is getting somewhat of a fresh start. At least five new characters are joining the cast as first-year surgical residents (despite the cliffhanger from Season 18 that temporarily shut down the residency program at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital), alongside the show's established regulars like James Pickens Jr. (Richard), Chandra Wilson (Bailey), Kevin McKidd (Owen), Kim Raver (Teddy), Camilla Luddington (Jo), and more.

Exclusive: Jesse Williams is returning as director and guest star in the fifth episode of the medical drama’s upcoming 19th season, reprising his role as Dr. Jackson Avery. Airing Nov. 3 and titled “When I Get to the Border,” it will be the fourth episode of the show that Williams has directed.
Williams departed Grey’s as a series regular in spring 2021 after 12 seasons. In the May 6, 2021 Season 17 episode “Look Up Child” it was revealed Jackson was leaving Grey Sloan to move to Boston to take over the family foundation. He was followed there by his ex, April (Sarah Drew), who relocated with their daughter. Williams made a couple of more appearances in Season 17.
He, along with Drew, then returned to guest star in the Season 18 finale last May, in which they confirmed that Jackson and April have rekindled their relation by kissing in the elevator at Grey Sloan Memorial.

We're just days away from the Grey's Anatomy Season 19, and we're already dreading the forced Station 19 crossover stories.
Grey's Anatomy has been one of the longest-running American primetime medical drama series. It has had multiple crossover events during this long period with its spinoff show, Station 19.
Characters have jumped across both the shows, and storylines have intermingled many times.
Not all of these crossover events have added value to either of the shows. Often, these crossovers are done to make the audience watch both the shows and boost viewership, making these events pure bait.
Grey's Anatomy is a much more popular show, so some of these events get created to make the audience start watching Station 19 as well.
Fans dislike being forced into watching another show they do not organically watch. And sometimes, they want to focus on one show at a time.

Sarah Drew and Jesse Williams are returning to “Grey’s Anatomy” for the Season 18 finale on Thursday, and Japril fans are holding out hope for any details on where their relationship stands.

In the ever-changing TV landscape, one thing remains key for lasting scripted shows: powerful storytelling. And it’s nearly impossible to discuss that without highlighting “Grey’s Anatomy” — the longest-running primetime medical drama in history.
This month, the series created by Shonda Rhimes reaches a giant landmark. On May 26, the procedural will air its 400th episode, which also happens to be its Season 18 finale.
Since its March 2005 debut, “Grey’s Anatomy” has been a watercooler show — and may be one of the last standing, especially in network TV.

And of course “Chasing Cars” is playing. Focusing on what’s happening in the present, Grey Sloan is preparing to find out whether or not their residency program can continue, and it looks like that’s at least part of why Jackson is back, if not the only reason. And whatever brings April into the hospital, Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) is going to be putting her to work when they’re short-staffed.

While we'd prefer to have them back full-time, we'll take anything we can get. The update comes two months after Williams teased the possibility of a Grey's Anatomy return. "I'd consider it," he told Entertainment Tonight at the time. "He still exists in the world of the show....

His character Jackson Avery’s exit was revealed in the May 6 episode, “Look Up Child,” which also featured Grey’s alumna Drew, who returned as April Kepner to help give Jackson a proper sendoff by reuniting one of the show’s most popular couples, “Japril.” Jackson visited his ex to tell her that he was moving to Boston to take over the family foundation. April agreed to follow him there so he can be close to their daughter, while dropping a bombshell of her own that she recently had separated from her husband — giving fans hope that Japril might be back on. After 12 years as plastics surgeon Dr. Jackson Avery, Jesse Williams exited Grey’s Anatomy in Season 17 in 2021. Now he is talking about his time on the show in a new interview. What he was doing on the ABC medical drama had become “increasingly safe, protected, insulated,” Williams told the New York Times. “I knew that as I designed my exit, the next thing I did had to be terrifying. I needed to get out of my comfort zone, I needed to go into a very unknown place.” He now has the Broadway revival of Take Me Out coming up, opening on Monday, April 4. His character, a baseball player, comes out as gay. While he noted that he’s “not really an actor” as he “didn’t go to acting school,” according to Grey’s showrunner Krista Vernoff, “he was always watching everybody’s artistry and learning from it.” And Sarah Drew (who played Dr.

If you're struggling with imposter syndrome, you're not alone. Jesse Williams exited ABC's Grey's Anatomy in 2021 after playing Jackson Avery for 12 years. His departure from the medical drama was met with sadness from fans who fell in love with the brooding, often shirtless doctor. But it was a necessary change for Jesse, who tells the New York Times that he felt "increasingly safe, protected, insulated" on the Shonda Rhimes series. Jackson and April may be long gone from Grey's Anatomy, but fans still have hope that a spinoff could materialize.
Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and April Kepner (Sarah Drew) were one of the most popular couples on the show, so it makes sense that fans would want to follow their story.
It's rare on Grey's Anatomy for a couple to leave the show alive, so maybe, just maybe, ABC or some streaming service will pick up a spinoff.
Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, is open to the idea of creating a new spinoff following the pair as they embark on a new adventure.
"I'm always open to any idea. I know people love 'Japril,'" the star told Insider.
"Sarah Drew and Jesse are both great to watch, but whatever Jesse wants and whatever Sarah wants, if they wanted to do it, then I would be so happy for the fans.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 — and specifically Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) — has been splitting time with stories and characters between Seattle and Minnesota. But which city’s episode time is holding your attention more? Do you prefer the usual setting for the ABC medical drama and its hospital staff? Or have you been drawn in by the attempt to find a cure for Parkinson’s and the new characters from Minnesota? Let’s take a look at what each place has to offer so far this season. Seattle Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) are basically trying to keep the hospital going. That means bringing on new staff members, like head of plastic surgery Dr. Michelle Lin (Lynn Chen), replacing Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), and potentially a resident courtesy of Meredith in the latest episode. Dr. Megan Hunt...

Even for a medical soap that thrives on tears, angst and broken hearts, last season was a gut punch: The show’s beloved mainstay, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), spent months in a Covid-related coma. Grey's Anatomy has had quite the revolving door of cast members over the years.
On Thursday, to the surprise of fans around the world, Kate Walsh confirmed she would be stepping back into the role of Dr. Addison Montgomery.
As you will probably understand, Walsh was a popular figure in the early years of the show, later going on to lead an Addison-centric spinoff in Private Practice.
That show lasted six successful seasons and wrapped in 2013, meaning that fans have been left in the lurch about what happened to the character since.
Thankfully, it's a multi-episode arc, so we're inclined to believe this will be a meaty storyline to bring the fan-favorite back into the fold.
Montgomery announced her return in a video shared on the Grey's Anatomy social channels.
"Surprise, bitch. I bet you thought you'd seen the last of me."
The actress followed up the post with another.

Two weddings, a much-anticipated clap-out and a flash forward eight months into the future proved to be a fruitful formula for ABC as the Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy series finales topped Thursday primetime ratings and viewers.
Station 19, which saw the union between Maya (Danielle Savre) and Carina(Stefania Spampinato), took last night’s viewership crown, drawing in 4.71 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic and a 0.6 rating, per per early Nielsen Live+Same Day numbers. While the season four finale brought the ABC series to viewership success, it was down three tenths in rating and 19% in viewers from the season three ender in May 2020 (0.9 5.88M).
The Station 19 season finale was up against NBC’s Manifest, the premiere of Fox’s music game show Beat Shazam and reruns of CBS’ Young Sheldon and The CW’s Walker.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Someone Saved My Life,” the Season 17 finale of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
“Grey’s Anatomy’s” Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) survived Covid-19 and returned to work within the 17th season of the ABC drama. But unlike every other patient on the show who received a congratulatory clap out when being discharged after surviving the virus, she avoided one. After months back in rotation at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, though, she finally completed her first surgery since having Covid — and was certainly deserving of praise.
“Someone Saved My Life,” the Season 17 finale of the ABC medical drama, began with Meredith stating that the main lesson she learned from having Covid-19 was, “It taught me that I’m still alive.” An allusion to her time in a Covid-induced coma, Meredith walks on an actual beach; it’s a moment of serenity as she sprinkles petals around the sand.

We said goodbye to Two of Grey's Anatomy's finest, and we do mean finest!
Jackson and Tom both left Grey Sloan Memorial by the end of Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Episode 15. And the hour also saw Meredith returning home and reuniting with her family after her battle with Covid.
Join Meaghan Frey, Jasmin Pettie, and Jasmine Blu as they discuss the hour.
After 12 years, was Jackson's farewell acceptable? What would you grade his exit and how they honored him?
Meaghan: I'm giving it a C- and that is being pretty generous given my thoughts on it.
I fully understand that the previous episode was 100% dedicated to him, but that doesn't make it Ok to completely gloss over his goodbye in the episode that they touted as his goodbye episode.
