Humankind’s time on Earth has is coming to end. As the planet dies nations prepare fleets to flee to nearby Mars. One of the last holdouts is the Grand Turkish Republic. The president refuses to okay the evacuation until he has one last proper meal, a chicken schnitzel. Problem is, chickens have been extinct for 200 years. Kamil, the president’s chief assistant, is tasked with finding a meal that does not exist. The 21st Sarajevo Film Festival (Aug 14-22) announced the winners of the partner awards at a ceremony last night (Aug 21).
Dalibor Matanić’s The High Sun (Zvizdan), which premiered at Cannes in Un Certain Regard (where it won the Jury Prize), received the Cicae Award from the jury comprising Kevin De Ridder and Silvia Bahl.
The Croatian drama comes from Zagreb-born writer-director Matanić, best known for his 2002 feature Fine Dead Girls, andis about forbidden love across national borders - a tale that starts just before the Balkan war in 1991 and travels through to 2011.
Young Croatian director Eva Kraljević won the European Documentary Network Talent Grant for her intimate 41-minute film I Like That Super Most The Best.
The film, shot over 10 years, follows the relationship of Kraljević and her sister, Mia, who has Down syndrome.

The 2015 Talents Sarajevo has unveiled the 71 rising actors, directors, DoPs, film critics, producers and screenwriters from Southeast Europe and Southern Caucasus that will attend a week of masterclasses, panel discussions, networking and training opportunities.
The Sarajevo Film Festival’s training platform for emerging talent was founded in 2007 in collaboration with the Berlinale Talents program.
It has become a regional hub where aspiring film professionals train, meet and exchange ideas, and the number of people interested in participating in the six-day programme has been growing.
This year, a record number of 320 applications were made for participation in Talents Sarajevo. Film directors formed the majority among the applicants with 164 applications.
Pack&Pitch
The interest is also growing for participation in the Pack&Pitch segment of the program, with 55 applications received this year compared to 19 in 2014.
This segment of the programme is dedicated to film directors and producers and offers them a chance to learn...
