In May of 2012, Allison Reitz completed her Bachelor of Music degree in
Music Composition at the University of Illinois after studying
Composition with Heinrich Taube, Mei Fang Lin, Zack Browning, Philip
Blume, Stephen Taylor, and Scott Wyatt. She is currently a candidate
for the Master of Fine Arts degree in Sound Design at the Savannah
College of Art and Design (SCAD), studying with faculty David Stone,
Robert Miller, Andre Ruschkowski, Stephen LeGrand, Matthew Akers, Robin
Beauchamp, Peter Damski, and John Sisti, as well as visiting professor
in Fall of 2012 Cecelia Hall. Allison plays Piano and Guitar and has
studied Trumpet, Indian Tabla Drums, the Japanese Koto, the African
Djembe, Accordion, and the Persian Santur through her studies at the
University of Illinois. Her experience as a vocalist includes the
Balkanalia Vocal Ensemble and the Women's Glee Club at the University
of Illinois.
Allison's musical and electroacoustic work has been performed in many of the facilities at the University of Illinois, and many of her pieces have been read by resident as well as visiting ensembles. Weather, a piece written for string quartet, was read by the Jack Quartet during their visit to the campus in 2010. Allison's film scoring work was premiered at the showing of The Human Condition at a University of Illinois reception recognizing excellence in the Humanities in April of 2011. In March of 2012, Unconditional (for orchestra) was read by the Illini Symphony, and Abandon (for 8 instruments) was read by the Ensemble Dal Niente as part of their visit to the University of Illinois. In March of 2013, The Rhythm Reflection (an interactive sound art installation) was premiered at the 2013 SCAD Sound Art Showcase and was a part of Dimensions, an exhibition of 2D, 3D, and 4D works in Savannah, GA. Student films Passengers (Composer) and Alternatives (Sound Supervisor, Post Production Sound, Composer) were premiered at the SCAD Winter 2013 Senior Showcase. Student films Allergies (Composer) and Reaching Out (Sound Supervisor, Pre and Post Production Sound, Composer) were premiered at the SCAD Spring 2013 Senior Showcase. On August 4th 2013, Allison received awards for Best Musical Score and Best Sound Design for Sara Jane at the Savannah 2013 48 Hour Film Project. On August 18th 2013, Allison received her AVID Pro Tools 10 Post-Production Certification.
Allison has experience with many methods of composition and sound design, beginning with her first piano solos. At the University of Illinois, she composed many classical instrumental works. Through her studies with Scott Wyatt at the University of Illinois Experimental Music Studios (EMS), Allison created many contrasting electroacoustic art works with Unisyn, Digital Performer, multiple synthesizers and oscillators, recording techniques, ProTools, and a combination of these. At EMS and at SCAD, she has used composite sound design in Pro Tools for various student films and sound art work. Allison has worked with Max/MSP on pieces involving granular synthesis, filters, delay, live recording, and various playback modes, as well as collaboration with live musical performance and interactive sound installations. At SCAD, Allison continues to develop a workflow for scoring student films using a combination of Pro Tools, Kontakt 5, Ableton Live, recording acoustic instruments, Max/MSP and Sibelius.
