Hugh Dolan

Hugh Dolan has caused ripples in the academic community with his two
books: "36 Days: The Untold Story Behind the Gallipoli Landings" and
"Gallipoli Air War". His first book was presented as a documentary
"Gallipoli from Above" with assistance from the Department of Veterans'
Affairs. Hugh is a retired Squadron Leader (RAAF) and a former Lance
Corporal in the British Army. He has had an unconventional life, after
Melbourne Grammar School he read Modern History at Oxford University.
After accumulating a wine bill at Trinity equivalent to the debt level
of a banana republic, Hugh enlisted in the Intelligence Corps as a
private. He was deployed to Bosnia chasing Persons Indicted For War
Crimes (PIFWC) and on anti-terror duties in the mid 1990s. He failed to
catch any bad guys. He then commissioned in the RAAF as an intelligence
officer. He served in Iraq. He failed to find Saddam. After visiting
the optometrist Hugh started researching the intelligence preparation
for the Gallipoli campaign. He found that both espionage and aerial
intelligence played key roles in the unfolding campaign.
