Game designer Hideo Kojima, creator of the hugely popular “Death Stranding,” had two pieces of news coming out of the Game Awards 2023.
On Thursday evening at the Game Awards show in L.A., Kojima appeared on stage with filmmaker Jordan Peele to announce his next game project: “Od,” which Kojima describes as an “immersive and totally new style of game” that will explore “what it means to Od on fear.” It’s being produced in partnership with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios.
In addition, Kojima announced that his documentary film “Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds” — which follows his journey to form an independent games studio and his creative process behind “Death Stranding” — will be distributed worldwide in the spring of 2024 exclusively on Disney+.
Peele, the acclaimed director of “Get Out,” “Us” and “Nope,” will be “one of several talented storytellers” involved in the “Od” project, according to Kojima Productions. “We are...

Chvrches singer Lauren Mayberry covered Depeche Mode’s 1989 hit “Personal Jesus” during a recent solo show in Prague. Performing at the Rock Café, Mayberry and her backing band gave the tune an upbeat rendition, with live drum beats filling in for the classic synth notes.
Mayberry is a long-professed fan of Depeche Mode and Chvrches previously toured with the group. The musician has made a habit of including covers on her current tour. She has included renditions of songs like Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” and the 1975’s “Paris” on her set list,...

Ahead of their co-headlining tour with The Postal Service, Death Cab For Cutie have unveiled a new song called “An Arrow in the Wall.” What’s more, the 12-inch physical release also includes a remix of the song from Chvrches.
“‘An Arrow In the Wall’ is about the warning signs all around us in the 21st century that society-at-large is in decay,” Dcfc frontman Ben Gibbard said in a statement. “The arrow lodged in the wall might have missed this time, but it would be naive to assume the next one won’t also.”
Regarding the song’s companion remix, Gibbard said Chvrches “took our maudlin little dance track and turned it into a major key club banger.”
Listen to both “An Arrow in the Wall” and Chvrches’ remix of the song below. Pre-orders for the 12-inch vinyl are ongoing.
Dcfc’s co-headlining tour with The Postal Services officially launches on September 5th.

Michael Stipe, Chvrches, and Coldplay are just a few of over 60 artists who’ve contributed to the 2023 iteration of EarthPercent’s annual Earth Day compilation album. Proceeds will benefit the Brian Eno-founded charity’s grant giving program, which directly benefits organizations fighting the ongoing climate crisis.
Stipe — a frequent eco-advocate — contributes the track “Give Me a Hand,” a moody art-pop number featuring guest vocals from folk singer and disability advocate Gaelynn Lea. Meanwhile, Chvrches reunite with their pal Robert Smith of The Cure for a rendition of their song “How Not to Drown,” recorded live at the Brixton Academy. Coldplay tap H.E.R. for another live track, this one being their ballad “Let Somebody Go” at the River Plate.

DJ/producer Marshmello and country music star Kane Brown appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show this week to perform their new song, “One Thing Right,” released this past June.
While the band waited for them onstage, Marshmello and Brown rolled up to the Ellen soundstage in a sweet ride, before being handed a guitar and a microphone, respectively. The pair walked through throngs of fans and Ellen attendees while performing, and they arrived in the main studio to find the audience already on their feet and clapping. Marshmello and Brown...

Benjamin Franklin believed that only two things were certain in life — death and taxes — but longtime Ryan Murphy collaborator and recently elevated president of Ryan Murphy Productions Alexis Martin Woodall begs to differ. It’s all about music and smells in her estimation. “Nobody is ever going to smell the same thing you smell and feel the exact same way. And that’s how music is,” she says. “You hear a song and it puts you in a time and place. I argue that music is important in every show.”
Murphy wouldn’t disagree with Woodall on that score — they’re like a old married couple. And when it comes to a mutual love of music, they might be soulmates.
Fittingly, Woodall’s collaborations with Murphy have been hallmarked by a strong musical presence. Friday marks the premiere of the first product of Murphy’s record-breaking development deal with Netflix,...

Marshmello recruits Scottish indie rockers Chvrches for the producer’s latest single “Here With Me,” which also had a lyric video dropped Friday. Since Chvrches’ debut single “Recover” first began wafting across the internet more than five years ago, the Scottish trio has been refining their sublime synthpop, working within a relatively limited formula — towering banks of celestial keyboards combined with Lauren Mayberry’s sweet yet often stinging vocals — and continually finding new ways to perfect it. With their third full-length, “Love Is Dead,” the group has honed that formula to a new peak and fleshed it out considerably, thanks in part to the input of several collaborators.
