Carl Byrd is an award-winning creative director and art director behind many ground breaking and iconic fashion advertising campaigns of the past 20 years. Carl's work for brands such as Gap, Target, Macy's, Ann Taylor, Loft and more has helped shape the modern aesthetic of fashion advertising. Carl was co-creator of the innovative Gap campaigns featuring dancing and singing from Khakis Swing, Everybody in Cords with the song Mellow Yellow and spots featuring LL Cool J, Missy Elliot, and Run DMC. Khakis Swing is in the AICP's permanent collection at The Museum of Modern Art. Time and time again Carl has captured the pop culture zeitgeist to create spectacular commercials for world class brands. For Target, he introduced the collections of fashion icons Isaac Mizrahi and Stephen Sprouse to America. Since 2007, Carl has run CarlByrd&Co. his eponymous ad agency in New York. He's directed hundreds of commercials, always using his signature brand of optimism, kick ass music and his keen graphic design aesthetic. In the last few years, he turned his eye toward directing films as well. DINNER AT 40 was Carl's delightful first film. The 20-minute gay romantic comedy won awards at several LBGTQ+ film festivals in 2014.
MARC JACOBS IS MY FATHER is Carl's feature film directorial debut. This is a cinematic coming out full of optimism and heart, just like everything Carl creates.
