Exclusive: Pig and Manodrome producer Ben Giladi is formally launching his production banner Liminal Content at this year’s Berlin Film Festival where Manodrome debuted in Competition.
The company will focus on content and filmmakers from international markets with an eye to ushering them into Hollywood.
The UK-based film and TV outfit is working in development, production and financing.
In addition to Manodrome, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Adrien Brody and Odessa Young, Giladi’s producing credits include Michael Sarnoski’s breakout debut Pig, starring Nicholas Cage, and Netflix’s cult true-crime series Shadow of Truth.
Prior to Liminal Content, Giladi (pictured below) worked with Len Blavatnik’s AI Film, which financed and produced titles including The Butler, American Animals and I, Tonya. He was also the founding partner of Israeli documentary outfit Egg Films, which was sold to Fremantle earlier this year.

Kino Lorber has picked up North American distribution rights to Cinema Sabaya, a drama from Israeli director Orit Fouks Rotem that is Israel’s official contender for the 2023 Academy Awards in the best international feature category.
The film is a portrait of a group of Arab and Israeli women taking part in a documentary filmmaking workshop. The women, ranging from a devout Muslim mother to a single Jewish woman who lives on a boat, reflect the mosaic of contemporary Israeli society. As part of their workshop, the women are tasked with filming their daily activities and routines. As they share their footage with one another, barriers are broken down and the women learn about each other and themselves.
Rotem based her feature debut on her own personal experience teaching filmmaking to groups of women in Acre and Givat Haviva in Northern Israel.

Celebrated Israeli filmmaker Matan Yair, whose “Scaffolding” has had festival play at Cannes, Zurich and Singapore, is nearly ready with his new film, coming-of-age drama “A Room of His Own.”
The film, which is in the work-in-progress strand of Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (Haf), follows 17-year-old Uri, who has botched his first army interview. Since Uri’s father moved out, his mother has been sleeping in Uri’s room. However, Uri is seeking his own path and his own room to deal with this world.
“A ‘Room of his Own’ has been accompanying me for many years as a personal story, almost autobiographical, over a period of time when my mother and I shared the same room. My father left home and my mother did not go back to the bedroom that they shared,” Yair told Variety.

Series Mania unveiled the fifteen projects set to pitch at this year’s Co-Pro Pitching Sessions with the hopes of scoring the €50,000 grand prize. The Bloom/Spiegel Partnership, an alliance between New York’s Ifp Marcie Bloom Fellowship in Film and Jerusalem’s prestigious Sam Spiegel Film School, has selected 8 filmmakers from around the world who will participate in the program’s second edition.
This year’s participants, Alik Barsoumian, Daliso Leslie, Clare Sackler, Ostin Fam (selected by Bloom), and Dana Blankstein-Cohen, Avishay Kahana, Maya Fischer and Sol Goodman (selected by Sam Spiegel), will spend time with other directors, industry professionals, and attend screenings and events over a period of five days. Tribeca Film Festival provided passes to all participants of the Bloom/Spiegel Partnership.
