The Uncertain Kingdom Fund, which disburses development coin to U.K. film projects, is opening submissions for its second round from May 23-June 20.
The fund was set up to support projects that interrogate British culture, asking questions of identity, the current journey and the future. It was created to address the challenges directors and producers face creating sustainable careers and targets filmmakers who have previously made a feature.
The stated aim of the fund is to take a hands-off approach and support filmmakers from a range of backgrounds and experiences. Projects of 70-plus minutes in any form or genre that are currently at treatment or script stage are eligible to apply. Filmmakers must be residents of the U.K. but need not be British.
U.K. distributor Picturehouse Entertainment has an ongoing collaboration with the fund and will continue to be closely involved in the selection of projects.

The British Independent Film Awards work tirelessly to champion the very best in British film. This year we’re proud to work with them again to look closer at the films that make up the 2020 BIFA Best Short Film Award longlist. Along with details of the films we have included trailers, weblinks and glowing comments from BIFA voters.
The BIFA Best British Short Film Award is proud to be supported by BFI Network, who exist to discover, support, develop and champion new filmmakers.
There will be a virtual event on the 25th of November for the longlisted filmmakers featuring clips, interviews and a Q&a. HeyUGuys will be part of that event, but check out the BIFA website for more information.
It’s always a pleasure to present this list. Each year we find the British film industry in rude health, with more voices and visions being brought to the fore.

Gunpowder & Sky has teamed up with Working with Weinstein producer Tigerlily Production to develop a comedy series about women in the world of corporate banking.
The two companies are working on Assets, which follows five female interns, who must decide whether to fight, play or change the game as they struggle through a system which is designed wholly against them.
The producing team, who between them have worked on shows including The Thick of It, Misfits and Humans, said that the show “provides a fresh response to workplace sexism, patriarchy and the glass ceiling in a post #MeToo world”. It is exec produced by Natasha Dack, Nikki Parrott and Jennifer Monks.
“Gunpowder & Sky is driven by telling realistic, and sometimes unfortunately relatable stories,” said Pasa Mustafa, Creative Director at Gunpowder & Sky. “Tigerlily Productions have built an international reputation for tackling powerful subject matter with sensitivity and artistry. To that end,...
