On the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel, we will be posting one full movie every day of the week, giving viewers the chance to watch them entirely free of charge. The Free Movie of the Day we have for you today is quite a weird one. It’s a found footage horror movie, but the threat in this one isn’t supernatural, as is often the case with found footage flicks. The threat here is the person doing the filming, a character played by writer/director/cinematographer/editor Adrian Țofei. The movie is Tofei’s feature debut Be My Cat: A Film for Anne.
I call Be My Cat a weird one not because its lack of ghosts and demons, but because it’s about a filmmaker who puts his actresses through a hellish experience because he became obsessed with Anne Hathaway after watching her play Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.

The crisp creepiness of October may be behind us, but with the colder months comes a new sort of setting perfect for watching horror movies. With the punishing wind whipping chill into the air outside — and the promise of snow keeping our blankets and fireplaces at the ready — winter is just the right time for inviting fear into your home and snuggling up with something spooky.
Fortunately for indie movie fans, there are dozens of low-budget chillers waiting to be streamed on Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Peacock, AMC+, Showtime, Amazon Prime Video, and a variety of other streaming platforms right now. From contemporary horror classics (see Robert Eggers’ “The Witch” or Bryan Bertino’s “The Strangers”) to beloved horror anthologies and non-English language movies (“Train to Busan”), the major streaming platforms offer no shortage...

The film centres on two lovers with big plans: ending all life on Earth. Given that the Romanian film industry depends almost exclusively on state funding, guerrilla filmmaking and genre productions are quite rare. Five years after directing Be My Cat: A Film for Anne, the first Romanian found-footage horror that went on to be shown at circa 30 horror film festivals around the globe, director Adrian Ţofei is currently in post-production with an ultra-independent mockumentary, We Put the World to Sleep. Written by Ţofei and highly improvised on set, the story follows actors Adrian (Adrian Ţofei) and Duru (Duru Yucel-Tofei), playing two lovers planning to end life on Earth. The two protagonists lose themselves in their characters and embark on a secret mission, convinced that the only way to end suffering – the strong crushing the vulnerable – is to reset the world to its initial,...

Adrian Tofei will self-distribute Be My Cat aka Be My Cat: A Film for Anne. The release date, for Video-on-demand, is coming in early December. Meanwhile, the DVD will be released in January of 2017. The film, from Romania, features a manic film director, with a strange obsession. He is determined to shoot Anne Hathaway. The film has been reviewed, on 28Dla, here (Kenna Rae): Be My Cat Review on 28Dla. Shot in a found footage style, Be My Cat is everything but conventional. And, a preview of the film's North American launch is hosted here. This film fan has seen this title. It is a very low budget production, in which a scheming director brings several actresses to his home. Each has been chosen because they look like his obsession, Anne Hathaway. Events take a dark twist, when the director resorts to restraint and torture. All shot on camera,...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by director Adrian Tofei. Director/writer: Adrian Tofei. Cast: Adrian Tofei, Sonia Teodoriu, Florentina Hariton and Alexandra Stroe. Be My Cat: A Film For Anne is Romania's first found footage horror film, and the first feature from director Adrian Tofei, also the film's writer, producer and star. This disturbing portrayal of an obsessed fan making a film about an obsessed fan begs questions about reality, art, film and the industry itself, and does so with incredible guts and originality. The chilling realism is sure to make viewers squirm like watching a snuff film but, thankfully, the authenticity comes from strong performances by an excellent cast. Though crawling with creep appeal, this film won't just satisfy horror fans, it should intrigue film nerds and aspiring filmmakers alike as it relentlessly pushes boundaries, making for a totally unique cinematic experience. Adrian is...
