After three months of competition, “Project Runway All Stars” season six ended on Thursday night, April 5, with its season finale episode “Making Fashion History.” The episode concluded a two-part challenge in which the designers were tasked with creating six-piece collections inspired by American history. So who prevailed? Scroll down for our complete minute-by-minute live blog with all the latest developments as they happen.
Last week, in “History in the Making,” Ken Laurence was eliminated before getting a chance to show his collection and compete for the title, leaving Fabio Costa, Stanley Hudson and Anthony Williams in contention to win. That was after the four competitors showed a preview look from their collections to the judges. But since the judges already saw one look, the remaining three had to design more piece, for a total of seven each.

After 12 episodes of “Project Runway All Stars” season 6, the show is down to its 3 finalists: Fabio Costa, Stanley Hudson and Anthony Williams. But what about the 13 contestants who came and went along the way? Our readers didn’t see eye-to-eye with the judges about multiple eliminations, so if they had their say we might have ended up with quite a different finale lineup. Which eliminated contestant would you most like to bring back to the show? Scroll down to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
The elimination that shocked “Runway” fans the most was arguably Amanda Valentine, who according to our early polling was the front-runner to win the entire season. She went out in 11th place in “Fashion’s New Superheroes,” and an overwhelming majority of our readers thought the judges made the wrong call. Our readers also thought the judges were wrong to oust...

For the first time in “Project Runway” history — including both “All Stars” and the original series — the final five designers are all men: Edmond Newton, Fabio Costa, Anthony Williams, Stanley Hudson and Ken Laurence. That was a statistically improbable outcome given that women outnumbered men nine-to-seven at the start of the season. The only men eliminated were Carlos Casanova and Joshua McKinley. So we asked our readers what they thought of the lopsided victory for the male designers. Did the judges get it right, or did the women deserve better? Scroll down for our complete poll results at the bottom of this post.
Our respondents actually thought the judges did a good job picking the final five. A slight majority (53%) said the remaining designers really are the best of the best. That’s a little surprising given how passionately our readers have disagreed with some eliminations, including Amanda Valentine and Helen Castillo.

Helen Castillo‘s roller-coaster run on “Project Runway All Stars” ended in episode 10, “Rock Your Face Off.” The design challenge that week tasked the contestants with creating a look for an on-stage musical performance, and Castillo was assigned country as her genre. Unfortunately, the judges thought she hit a sour note, so she was drummed out. But not all of our readers agreed with the judges’ decision. Scroll down for our complete poll results at the bottom of this post.
A little more than half of “Runway” fans who responded to our poll (52%) thought Castillo deserved to be sent home for her black sequin dress, which host and judge Alyssa Milano thought looked like a costume out of a Renaissance faire and which Georgina Chapman felt looked “cheap.” But that means the other 48% thought the judges got it wrong. Stanley Hudson barely escaped elimination in episode 10 of “Project Runway All Stars,” “Rock Your Face Off,” but despite that rough design challenge he has leaped ahead in our predictions for who will win season six of the design competition series. Going into episode 11 he’s the new front-runner to win. Do you agree that he’ll take the title?
“Rock Your Face Off” pitted the designers against each other head-to-head to create looks for on-stage musical performances. Hudson had won three previous challenges, so he seemed like he had the advantage when putting together a rock design against Edmond Newton, who hadn’t won any. But the judges thought Newton captured rock glam while Hudson’s look was too conservative and underwhelming. Luckily for Hudson, the judges liked Helen Castillo‘s country design even less, so she was eliminated instead.
Nevertheless, Hudson has moved ahead in our predictions with leading...

“Project Runway All Stars” eliminated Helen Castillo in Thursday night’s episode, “Rock Your Face Off.” That leaves five designers in the competition: Fabio Costa, Stanley Hudson, Ken Laurence, Edmond Newton and Anthony Williams. All five of them are men, which is not only unusual but historic. This is the first time one gender has swept the top five in the history of “Runway” — not just the 6 seasons of “All Stars,” but also the 16 seasons of the original series.
It’s all the more surprising in this season of “All Stars” because the women actually started out with the numbers advantage. There were an even 16 contestants at the start of the competition, but 9 were women while only 7 were men. However, over the course of the last 10 episodes all 9 women were eliminated compared to only 2 men who suffered the same fate. Carlos Casanova was booted in the season premiere, and then...

And then there were none. Helen Castillo was eliminated from “Project Runway All Stars” in sixth place in the episode “Rock Your Face Off,” but maybe she could take some solace from the fact that she was the winner among female designers. She was the last woman standing on the show, and with her gone the top five on the show is exclusively male. Do you think the judges made the right decision by eliminating her from the competition? Scroll down to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
Castillo was done in by a rock music challenge, which is ironic since her personal style suggested this would have been right up her alley. Alas, she didn’t get to choose her genre. Season six of “Project Runway All Stars” is nearing the home stretch. “Rock Your Face Off” challenged the designers to create performance looks fit for a music superstar. So where “Posen on the Red Carpet” last week demanded Oscar-caliber chic, this challenge required edgy Grammy glam. It’s too bad Lady Gaga wasn’t present as a guest judge given her history of wearing famously provocative dresses made of meat and Kermit the Frog dolls — though in that case she might be a better fit for an unconventional materials challenge. ‘Project Runway All Stars’: Are Anthony Williams, Fabio Costa & Stanley Hudson locks for the finale?
Season six of “Project Runway All Stars” seems to have settled around three consistent favorites: Anthony Williams, Fabio Costa and Stanley Hudson. All three have won multiple design challenges, and all have had only one low score apiece after nine episodes. Does that make them locks for the finale?
Maybe not. In season five only two of the three finalists had won multiple challenges before the last episode: the eventual winner Dom Streater and third-place finisher Ken Laurence, who is back in the running this season. The runner-up that year was Kini Zamora, who had only one challenge victory, though he did get a slew of other high scores during the competition. Zamora out-lasted three designers who had multiple victories: Sam Donovan (fourth place), Emily Payne (fifth place) and Asha Daniels (sixth place).

We’re just a few days removed from the 2018 Academy Awards, but we can’t seem to escape the red carpet. In episode nine of “Project Runway All Stars” the top seven designers were “Posen for the Red Carpet.” To be specific, they were invited into the private studio of fashion designer Zac Posen, where they gathered materials to create glamorous red carpet looks showcasing their signature technique. Posen was also a guest judge, along with actress Rosie Perez, so this was the second challenge in a row, following “Mizrahi Madness” last week, when the designers were both inspired by and judged by a fashion icon. So how did they do?
Stanley Hudson won the last design challenge, so he got his first choice of fabrics from Posen’s luxurious collection. His plan was to showcase his tailoring with a red gown highlighted by a dramatic, voluminous skirt. Anthony Williams...

Edmond Newton has struggled in recent weeks on “Project Runway All Stars,” and now he may be at risk of elimination. At least, that’s what our readers think. Every week we poll “Runway” fans for their predictions, and based on their collective forecasts Newton gets leading odds of 11/8, which translates to a 41.97% chance of being sent home. Do you agree?
Newton got off to a great start, earning a high score from the judges in the season premiere for his autumn-inspired design. Then he advanced safely through the next three weeks of the competition without a positive or negative critique from the judges. However, his next four challenges took a turn for the worse. He landed in the bottom three in three out of those four episodes: “Fashion’s New Superheroes,” “Thrown for a Loop by Betty Boop” and most recently “Mizrahi Madness.” And he hasn’t gotten a...

Helen Castillo is the last woman standing in season six of “Project Runway All Stars.” Is there a chance she could win the whole competition, or is she doomed to be eliminated just like every other woman on the show?
The season started with 16 contestants: 9 women and 7 men. After 8 episodes the show is down to 1 woman and 6 men. Carlos Casanova was eliminated in the season premiere episode, but then the women were picked off one-by-one: Kelly Dempsey in “Damsels in Distress,” then Ari South and Melissa Fleis in “Perfect Pairings,” Candice Cuoco in “Balls Out,” Amanda Valentine in “Fashion’s New Superheroes,” Char Glover in “Thrown for a Loop by Betty Boop,” Kimberly Goldson in “A Kick in the Astro” and Merline Labissiere in “Mizrahi Madness.”

After starting with 16 contestants, season 6 of “Project Runway All Stars” was down to 8 going into episode 8, “Mizrahi Madness.” So the stakes were twice as high, and the designers needed to work twice as hard to win the judges’ approval. Isaac Mizrahi is a judge on “All Stars,” but in “Madness” he was also the contestants’ inspiration. The designers had to create colorful party looks inspired by a Mizrahi exhibit, so they not only had to win his approval, they had to try to live up to his work. And joining the panel to evaluate those party designs was another legend of the fashion industry, 86-year-old supermodel Carmen Dell’Orefice.

Two weeks after the elimination of Char Glover from “Project Runway All Stars” in the unique, cartoon-inspired challenge “Thrown for a Loop by Betty Boop,” the fashion design spin-off returned with its seventh episode of season six, “A Kick in the Astro.” And if the designers thought their distressed challenge and unconventional-materials challenge were tough, this time around they had to go for broke and unleash their unbridled creativity in an avant garde challenge judged by guest stars RuPaul Charles and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Will Helen Castillo be eliminated from “Project Runway All Stars” in episode six? That’s what the “Runway” fans we’ve polled are predicting. This is actually the second week in a row our users have forecast her downfall, but she advanced safely through episode five, “Fashion’s New Superheroes,” despite getting on the judges’ — and her fellow contestants’ — bad side the week before in “Balls Out.” If her luck does run out in tonight’s episode she’ll be the sixth woman in a row to get her walking papers.
As of this writing Castillo leads our predictions with odds of 5/4, which translates to a 44.25% chance of elimination. In addition to her low score and controversial behavior in “Balls Out,” she also had a low score in the first episode when her team of “All Stars” veterans lost the season-opening team challenge. Season six of “Project Runway All Stars” is ostensibly a battle between veterans who have appeared on “All Stars” before and rookies who are competing in this spin-off series for the first time. However, after five weeks of competition we’ve seen a different competitive split: between men and women. And it’s not looking good for the women so far. The female designers have been dropping like flies.
The season started with 16 designers overall: 7 men and 9 women. But the early results have been lopsided. Five out of six eliminations thus far have been women, while five of the six design challenge winners have been men. At least one of those eliminations was a surprise: Amanda Valentine was the front-runner to win the competition according to our racetrack odds going into “Fashion’s New Superheroes,” but she was eliminated, which 93% of our readers disagreed with. Helen Castillo narrowly avoided elimination in episode four of “Project Runway All Stars.” Not only was her unconventional ball gown in “Balls Out” not to the judges’ liking, they also disapproved of how she handled her critiques, disparaging her fellow designers’ methods and style choices. That was the second time in four weeks that Castillo has had one of the lowest scoring looks in a design challenge, so she may have a target on her back going into episode five tonight. Our users think she’s out of second chances and will be eliminated. Do you agree?
Every week we poll “Runway” fans for their predictions, and as of this writing Castillo gets leading odds of 19/10, which translates to a 33.96% chance of elimination. But perhaps she’ll be scared straight by last week’s close call and step up with her next design. That’s what happened to Stanley Hudson.

“Project Runway All Stars” had its first big conflict of season six in episode four, “Balls Out,” when a high-pressure unconventional-materials challenge led designer Helen Castillo to lash out. Most of our readers we surveyed thought that was out of line. Scroll down for our complete poll results at the bottom of this post.

Season six of “Project Runway All Stars” had been a mostly harmonious affair until episode four, “Balls Out,” when the designers had to figure out how to create ball gowns with actual balls in the season’s first unconventional materials challenge. Helen Castillo had one of the lowest scoring designs, but when receiving her critiques from the judges she made comments that seemed to passive-aggressively target her opponents’ looks. That led to an angry confrontation backstage, but was it fair for Castillo to deride her fellow designers or did she cross a line? Vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
Castillo was throwing shade even while she was working on her design. She made a risky decision to create a new textile for her gown, an ambitious choice given the time constraints, but she felt the extra effort would distinguish her from the rest of the pack.

If it were up to us, "Project Runway" would never be "out," it would just play on a loop 24/7/365.
Sadly, Season 14 will say auf wiedersehen on Thursday, November 5th, so now seems like a good time to take stock and rank the previous 13 seasons, with the expectation that the 2015 season will probably fall somewhere in the middle of the pack once it's done. (Tim Gunn "hated" Season 14, but there have been worse.) Every season of PR is a precious, unique little rhinestone, but, like the judges, we have our favorites -- and now it's Our turn to be biased.
So here's our very subjective but still definitive worst-to-best ranking, which may only be challenged by a glare from Nina Garcia, an eye roll from Michael Kors, a "make it work" from Tim Gunn, or an "out" from Heidi Klum.

Tonight, the fourth season of Project Runway: All Stars comes to an end and host Alyssa Milano says it is a “pressure cooker” of emotion. Yet, all the stress wasn’t only on Dmitry Sholokhov, Helen Castillo, and Sonjia Williams, the final three contestants tasked with designing a collection in just four days.
News: Alyssa Milano Welcomes Baby Girl
The reality competition host reveals it was also stressful for the judges, who would go through two stages of emotions each week -- 1) Anxiety over sending the right person home, 2) Excitement and anticipation for the next runway -- as they determined who will win. “[It was full of] nerves and anxiety,” Milano tells ETonline about the feeling in the air during the final runway.

On episode 12 of Project Runway All Stars, the judges narrowed down the contestants to the final three. But before they did that, the designers had to go through a series of challenges. For their main challenge, the designers had to create a glamorous red carpet look worthy of Marilyn Monroe. Isaac gave the designers a fun break and an opportunity to create a look for rescue dogs for the next challenge. And Helen and Michelle were faced head-to-head in a one-hour runway challenge where they had to rework losing designs to determine who went onto the finale. Here are my ranks of all of the looks (minus the doggie outfits) from worse to best. Weigh in with your thoughts and predictions in the comments.

On episode nine of Project Runway All Stars, the designers had to take inspiration from the underwater sealife they found at the Long Island Aquarium to create an avant-garde look. The challenge took a turn for the dangerous when Helen volunteered to sketch in the shark tank to increase everyone?s budget by $100. The final runway was a pretty solid one, but sadly someone had to go home. Here are my rankings of the looks from worst to best. As always, tell me your thoughts in the comments.

As hard as it is to get by without Heidi, Nina, and Tim, Project Runway: All Stars always helps to fill the perfectly designed hole in our hearts during breaks between Project Runway seasons. August: Osage County takes two minutes to prove that Meryl Streep, still racking up Oscar nominations like Skee-Ball tickets at age 64, will brutalize herself and you for the sake of a movie. As the loopy Oklahoma grandmama Violet in the new adaptation of Tracy Letts‘ Pulitzer-winning play, she stumbles around almost gratuitously, gargles profanities at Julia Roberts, and basically refuses to endear us for the movie’s entire duration. If you thought June Squibb was broad in Nebraska, you’ll be shocked at the kabuki-type insanity of Meryl’s work. She practically draws a sword and impales Margo Martindale for disgracing the emperor.
As such, August: Osage County polarizes. But who doesn’t love when Meryl gives us polarizing work? After all, her weirdest, kookiest, and potentially funniest movie of all time is also her most divisive: Death Becomes Her. The dark 1992 farce may feel like the snobbish Hollywood cousin...

That was a nail biter of a "Project Runway" finale, wasn't it? Alas, it wasn't one I was able to recap as I'm here in Dallas for a press event, but I cleared my scheduled to talk with the newly minted winner. Given that this season had lots of meltdowns, a returning contestant, and some pretty surprising eliminations (Helen and Kate, anyone?), there was much to discuss. Here's what Dom Streater had to tell HitFix about her big win, which makes "Project Runway" history -- she's the first African-American "Project Runway" winner in the history of the show. Over the phone, Dom was just as...

Well, "Project Runway" fans, it's the big night. Tonight, we'll learn who is the winner of Season 12 - Dom, Alexandria, Justin, or Bradon. And we'll be live-blogging along as we watch and critique. We'd like to say we have our formal wear on, but we do have a glass a wine! Let's go!
The current Hollywood darling and "It" girl, Kerry Washington, is guest judging for the finale, and we can't wait to hear what she has to say about the designers.
9:01: We still can't believe Helen is out.
9:03: The Tide Washable Challenge ($250 to spend) means that they have to throw out one of their designs, and make a "washable" look. So off to Mood. Justin is making a sweater-ish vest. Alexandria is looking for pants in a washable fabric. Dom is doing a color-blocked dress. Justin finds a washable silk jersey.
9:05: Seriously, Justin,...

We're a week away from the Season 12 finale, "Project Runway" fans, and that means that someone's dreams are about to ripped right out of their hands.
After last week's cop-out of an episode that eliminated no one, tasking all five remaining designers to return home and build a collection for New York Fashion Week, though only two had guaranteed spots, it was time to reveal who would be joining Dom and Bradon in the actual, official, for-real finale: Justin, Helen or Alexandria.
This episode felt especially cruel, as all five designers were sent home and tasked to create a collection for the finale, complete with the requisite visit from Tim Gunn at their home. (Dom's prints: Swoon! Helen's construction: Worry! Alexandria's lack of color: Snore!) However, for three of these remarkably talented contestants, there was one final challenge. Upon returning to NY, after creating, I repeat for dramatic emphasis,...

In the first part of the season finale, we see the designers dream up their collections for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, but Justin, Alexandria, and Helen still have to compete for a spot in the finale show! Read on for our recap of ‘Project Runway’ Season 12 Episode 13!
The episode begins with Heidi and Tim sending the designers off with the challenge of creating a 10-look collection for spring in a mere six weeks. The catch? One of the looks must be made of an unconventional material, “and you know what we mean when we say ‘unconventional,’ nothing resembling fabric,” Heidi warns them. As Tim wishes them luck, Alexandria tears up, saying they are “happy tears,” reminding us that these are real artists lucky enough to see their work come to life. We can’t wait to see what the designers come up with!

We're down to five designers on Season 12 of "Project Runway," with the dismissal of Kate and Alexander. Next week is the first part of the finale... so this is a big challenge - the final four move ahead to New York Fashion Week. We're close to the end. So get a glass of something and let's dig in, shall we?
Left in the competition: Dom (who won last week's challenge,) Alexandria, Justin, Bradon, and Helen. Justin knows he's got a target on him, as he's not won once.
Tim Gunn and the designers go on a field trip to Sweetbriar Nature Center in Long Island. It's always fun when the non-nature designers get sent out into nature. They get to take a tour through the butterfly house, along with Billy B., the L'Oreal consulting makeup artist. He and Tim explain the next challenge: an avant garde, daring, cutting edge L'Oreal Makeup Challenge,...

The contestants’ textile design skills were put to the test this week as they were given the now re-occurring Hp Design challenge. Read Michael Costello’s recap on season 12 episode 11 here! This episode was a lot of fun and one of my favorite challenges, the Hp challenge! Each contestant had to design a print inspired by a local innovator. Which print did you think was the best? Project Runway Season 12 Episode 11 Recap: At first, everyone was terrified about the finals, but once Rob Le Bras-Brown of Hp Worldwide Marketing introduced the challenge, everyone forgot their fears and were excited to make their prints.
Watching the contestants meet their innovators was the best part. Everyone seemed inspired right away except for Alexander and Helen. Helen had a major breakdown in the showroom and was too nervous to design anything. Seriously, honey, just get a backbone, and get to work once in a while.
