Ismene Daskarolis was born in Berlin in 1989 and grew up in Wellington, New Zealand and Greece, her home country. After graduating from school she quickly enrolled into film school before acquiring her MA in fine and applied art from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2020 she began working for Berlin - based world sales distribution Pluto Film, where she specialised in acquisitions. She was named "Future Leader" by Screen Daily in their 2021 Cannes issue. Her personal film projects have been developed at Torino Film Lab Extended and the Mediterranean Film Institute. She was also appointed as a member of the jury for the Greek Film Centre's annual funding program. Her films have screened in international exhibitions and film festivals across the globe, such as PÖFF Tallinn Black Nights FF and Athens International FF. She is an alumni of the Locarno Industry Academy, the Reykjavik Talent Lab of RIFF and the Baltic Short Pitching Forum.
Ismene has also worked as a film critic and cultural journalist, acting as Chief Editor of the film department at Exostis Press and being the site's main correspondent for festivals like the Berlinale, the European Academy Awards and the Thessaloniki International FF. Her english articles have also been published in publications such as Nisimazine and Cineuropa, among others.
She continues to work as a writer and film director to this day.
