Mumbai, Jan 16 (Ians) The Enforcement Directorate (Ed) questioned BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation chief I.S. Chahal for over three hours on Monday in connection with an alleged money-laundering case against Sujit Patkar, an aide of Shiv Sena-Ubt MP Sanjay Raut, arising out of irregularities in a Covid Jumbo Field Hospitals scam.
After recording his statement, Chahal said that at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, the Bmc had set up 10 Jumbo Field Hospitals in the city with over 15,000 beds, 1,000 ICU and oxygen beds.
Later, the Bmc informed the state government that it did not have the requisite manpower to manage such huge facilities and hence, decided to outsource the work to outside agencies.
A total of four parties had given their bids for these hospitals in which nearly one lakh patients were treated.

Terming ‘The Kashmir Files’ as a propaganda by one party against another, Shiv Sena (Ubt) MP Sanjay Raut came out in defence of the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) jury chief Nadav Lapid who slammed the Vivek Agnihotri film, here on Tuesday.
“This is true about ‘The Kashmir Files’… It was propaganda by one party against another… The maximum number of killings in Kashmir have taken place after this film. Kashmiri Pandits and security personnel were killed… But, a party and the government were busy with publicity,” said Raut to mediapersons.
He asked where ‘The Kashmir Files’ people were when the killings were going on in Kashmir, with even the children of Kashmiri Pandits launching an agitation.
“Nobody stepped forward then… and there were no plans for a ‘Kashmir Files 2.0’ then… Let them make it,” said Raut.

Reiterating the conspiracy theory to defame Maharashtra in the Sushant Singh Rajput probe, Shiv Sena Spokesperson Sanjay Raut on Monday said it was strange that even the Cbi probe and the Aiims forensic report were now questioned.
"This is something very surprising. Earlier, they (Sushant's family and supporters) did not have faith in the Mumbai Police investigations and the autopsy report given by Dr Rn Cooper Hospital," Raut said here.
He pointed out that the Aiims report -- which said that the Bollywood actor died by suicide -- is as per the investigations by its forensic medical board led by Dr Sudhir Gupta. The report concluded that Sushant was not murdered, which was in tune with what the Mumbai Police probe maintained, Raut said.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Friday said that the death of Sushant Singh Rajput and the resultant investigations into the drug cases would be "politicised during the Bihar elections" announced this afternoon.
"It was a long-planned drama... The Bihar government does not have any developmental or governance issues to speak about... They have started campaigning with posters of Sushant. So, it's obvious why the Sushant case and drugs matters were blown out of proportion," Raut told mediapersons.
He demanded to know that with the drugs case handled by the Narcotics Control Bureau, "what has happened to the Cbi probe in the Sushant case" now that the former Bihar Dpg Gupteshwar Pandey has quit the Ips to contest state polls.

Her strongly-worded video statement against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has drawn multiple police complaints against actress Kangana Ranaut here on Thursday.
One of the complainants alleged Kangana had used derogatory language against Cm Thackeray in the video that she had posted on her verified Twitter page on Wednesday. The complainant said Kangana's action was an attempt "to diminish the character and challenge the dignity" of the chief minister.
Comparing the demolition of her office building with the plight of Kashmiri Pandits was also an attempt to disturb communal harmony, according to one of the complaints filed at the city's Vikhroli Police Station.
The complaint comes in the wake of Kangana's video, which she released on her verified Twitter account on Wednesday. In the video, she declares Cm Thackeray's ego will be demolished the same way the Bmc tried demolishing her office building.

High-voltage drama was witnessed here on Wednesday when the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (Bmc) bulldozers razed to the ground the 'illegal office' of Kangana Ranaut while she was airborne from Chandigarh to Mumbai.
The ravaged office - which resembled a war-zone within two hours - triggered a furious Twitter war led by the actress, and ignited a fresh political row in the state.
Moving swiftly, her lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui approached the Bombay High Court where a division bench comprising Justice S. J. Kathawalla and Justice R. I. Chagla stayed the demolition and kept the matter for further hearing on Thursday.
In his forceful plea, Siddiqui challenged the Bmc action terming it as "illegal, arbitrary, malafide, without application of mind, unreasonable, improper and violating principles of natural justice," and that there were no illegalities in the office that was virtually torn apart by the civic demolition squad.

However, he said he would not comment on the legal proceedings which either the Mumbai Police Commissioner (Param Bir Singh) or the state Advocate-General would speak on.
The apex court judgement, while observing that the Mumbai Police did not err in the probe in any manner, also said it was wrong to create hurdles in the way of the Bihar Police team investigating the case in Mumbai.
