- After college he worked as an assistant brand manager at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1980 to 1982. In 1982 he joined Pizza Hut Inc. in Wichita, Kansas, serving as manager of new pizza marketing.
- Served as a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship (PAGE).
- Was chairman of UP Global, a non-profit organization focused on fostering strong entrepreneurial communities.
- In 1999 he received the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement.
- Served on the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NACIE).
