We may know where Peter was headed when he jetted off in the Season 1 finale of The Night Agent.
Filming has begun on the second season of Netflix’s hit thriller drama, with the streamer’s start-of-production announcement unveiling that shooting of the new season will take place primarily in New York City with additional filming in Thailand and Washington D.C.
Season 1 of The Night Agent was set in and around Washington D.C. and filmed in Vancouver.
Given that we last saw Peter (Basso) taking off from D.C. in a private jet on his first mission as a Night Action spy, it is safe to assume that he is going to Thailand or a nearby country. That would answer one of the finale’s biggest questions.
Other major questions The Night Agent showrunner Shawn Ryan expected the show to address in Season 2 back in March include, What does it mean that Peter would be a night agent? Now that Rose is going back to California to try to restart her tech career, where does that leave Peter and Rose?
Season 2 also is moving the center of the action from the nation’s capital to the Big Apple as the series is rewarded for its big success in Season 1 — which ranks as the sixth most popular season of an English-language series on Netflix — with more expensive filming locations.
Basso and Luciane Buchanan return alongside previously announced new cast members Amanda Warren, Arienne Mandi, Louis Herthum, Berto Colon, Brittany Snow and Teddy Sears.
The Night Agent is on a very tight schedule as Netflix announced last week that Season 2 will premiere in 2024. Getting a 10-episode season of an elaborate action drama series ready before end of the year will be a major feat, especially given the fact that series on a global streamer like Netflix take longer to release because they also have to undergo dubbing/subtitling for the various territories.
The Night Agent is a character-based, action-thriller whose first season centered on a low-level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads to the Oval Office.
The series is created, showrun and executive produced by Shawn Ryan through his MiddKid Productions banner. David Beaubaire, Seth Gordon, Julia Gunn, Marney Hochman, Paul Neinstein, William Sherak, Nicole Tossou, James Vanderbilt, Paul Bernard and Munis Rashid also executive produce. The Night Agent is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

“Snow Leopard,” the last film by Tibetan director Pema Tseden prior to his death in May, was awarded the Grand Prix at the closing ceremony of the 36th Tokyo International Film Festival on Wednesday. Premiering out of competition at this year’s Venice Film Festival and later screening at Toronto, the film depicts the argument between a father and his adult son of how to deal with the title beast, which has descended from the mountains to kill sheep in their village.

At a moment of war and deep division in the Middle East, a film co-directed by an Israeli and an Iranian is already a victory in and of itself. But the gripping sports drama Tatami, which follows a female judo champ whose career is severely jeopardized by Iran’s government during an international tournament, is more than just a promising collaboration between two filmmakers hailing from opposing sides of the conflict.
Set during one nail-biting day at the world championship in Tbilisi, Tatami — whose title refers to the mat where judoka fighters engage in combat — is both a riveting story of an athlete trying to achieve gold for the first time, and a searing political thriller where Iranian women are subjected to persecution, intimidation and possibly kidnapping at the hands of their country’s far-reaching authoritarian regime. Billed as the first feature film to be co-directed by an Iranian and an Israeli filmmaker, “Tatami” goes all in with a lean and tense narrative that is part sport movie, part political thriller — with both parts equally neatly realized. Directed by Guy Nattiv and “Holy Spider” lead actor Zar Amir Ebrahimi (who also stars), from a screenplay by Nattiv and Elham Erfani, the film is set during the Judo World Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia, in which Iranian judo fighter Leila (Arienne Mandi) starts to perform better than anyone except perhaps her coach Maryam (Amir Ebrahimi) expected.

Venice Film Festival’s red carpet swapped glamour for politics on Saturday, hosting a flash mob in solidarity with the Iranian people, fighting against repression, as well as filmmakers who are being oppressed – and arrested – because of their work.
Such as “Leila’s Brothers” director Saeed Roustaee, recently sentenced to six months in prison for showing the film in Cannes. He has also been banned from making movies.
“Born in 1989, Roustaee represents a new generation of Iranian auteurs, and one who’s sly enough to embed his complex social critiques so deep into the fabric of sprawling modern stories that he hasn’t upset the regime. Not yet, at least,” ominously wrote Variety’s Peter Debruge following its premiere at the French fest.
Roustaee also made “Life and a Day” and thriller “Just 6.5,” which was shown in Venice.
Elham Erfani, Zahra Amir Ebrahimi and guests attend the Flash Mob in Solidarity With Iranian People.

The death of Mahsa Amini on Sept. 16, 2022, would shake Iran to its core. In what proved to be a tinder box moment and led to what experts have asserted was the greatest challenge to the hard-line Iranian government since the 1979 revolution, the 22-year-old died in Tehran, having allegedly been beaten by the police after she’d been arrested for not wearing the mandatory hijab.
The news sparked widespread protests across the country as thousands took to the streets over the following weeks and months to demand an end to the hijab rule and for wider social freedoms, particularly for women. The brutal crackdown by authorities that followed resulted in more than 500 reportedly killed by security forces and tens of thousands detained.

The project is the first feature film to be co-directed by an Iranian and an Israeli filmmaker, during a time when the Iranian government still criminalizes any contact with Israelis, and state violence against women is amplified.
Other cast members include Jaime Ray Newman (“Dopesick”), Nadine Marshall (“The Silent Twin”), Mehdi Bajestani (“Holy Spider”), Lirr Katz and Ash Goldeh.

Exclusive: The L Word: Generation Q is no longer available on Showtime’s streaming service and the Showtime Anytime app. The removal comes on the heels of the series’ cancellation by the network after three seasons.
While the sequel has been removed, the groundbreaking original L Word series remains on the service. As Deadline reported exclusively last week, a reboot, The L Word: New York (working title), is in development at Showtime with the 2004 series’ creator Ilene Chaiken attached.
The removal of The L Word: Generation Q also follows the purge of a number of short-lived Showtime series from the streaming platform at the end of January as part of Showtime’s integration into Paramount+, which includes the linear network being renamed Paramount+ with Showtime later this year. As part of the changes, the company will “divert investment away from areas that are underperforming” and that accounts for “less than 10% of our views,...

Showtime is closing the book on The L Word: Generation Q.
According to Deadline, the series has been canceled after three seasons on the premium cabler.
The news comes two months after The L Word: Generation Q Season 3, which means fans could be left pondering what happened next.
While Generation Q is done, L Word creator Ilene Chaiken is prepping a reboot of the original series for Showtime.
The potential series would be called The L Word: New York and would shift the action to -- you guessed it -- New York.
Generation Q was a continuation of the original series which aired on Showtime from 2004 to 2009.
It followed the lives of Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals), Alice Pieszecki (Leisha Hailey), Shane McCutcheon (Moennig), Dani Nùñez (Arienne Mandi), Micah Lee (Leo Sheng), Sarah Finley (Jacqueline Toboni), Sophie Suarez (Rosanny Zayas), Gigi Ghorbani (Sepideh Moafi), Angie Porter-Kennard (Jordan Hull) and Tess Van...

Exclusive: Showtime has opted not to renew The L Word: Generation Q for a fourth season.
