Written by Joseph Nixon and Ian Shaw, the look-alike son of legendary actor Robert Shaw, the stage comedy The Shark Is Broken, which goes behind-the-scenes of the filming of the 1975 Steven Spielberg classic Jaws (watch it Here) and sees Shaw taking on the role of his father, made its premiere at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe before moving to the West End’s Ambassadors Theatre in 2021. And now, Deadline reports, The Shark Is Broken is heading to Broadway!
Deadline shares the details: Directed by Guy Masterson, The Shark Is Broken will begin a limited 16-week engagement on Tuesday, July 25, at the John Golden Theatre, with an official opening on Thursday, August 10.
Shaw reprises the role of his father, who played Quint in Jaws. The stage comedy imagines what happened on board Quint’s boat (the Orca) when the cameras stopped rolling during the filming of Spielberg’s blockbuster.
This marks the Broadway debut for Shaw.

In his version of “Jaws,” where the threat isn’t a shark but rather the coronavirus and the deadly illness it causes, Jim Carrey has already figured out who’d make the perfect Mayor Larry Vaughn.
In Carrey’s latest political cartoon, shared on Thursday, President Donald Trump is depicted wearing the seersucker suit of the “Jaws” mayor and asking two beachgoers, “Why aren’t you going in the water?!” as a bloody limb can be seen on the sandy shore.
“Trump is willing to risk countless lives to save his economic record,” Carrey wrote. “He has fully become the mayor from Jaws.”

The Pm thinks Amity mayor Larry Vaughn is ‘the real hero of Jaws’. Maybe that’s why he’s emulating his ‘the beaches are open’ politics as coronavirus spreads around the world
The coronavirus has turned the UK into an outlier. The rest of the world has seemingly gone into lockdown, shutting schools and public transport in a desperate bid to quell the pandemic. But Boris Johnson has gone in a different direction. According to him, the UK is business as usual.
But what prompted such a policy? Is he privy to more advanced scientific knowledge than all the other countries? Is he really such a vocal proponent of herd immunity? Or is there something else going on? Perhaps to find out, we should travel back to 2006, when Johnson told an audience that “the real hero of Jaws is the mayor”.

Larry Vaughn was the mayor of a small Northeastern town for several years several decades ago when — yes, sure, okay fine — several people were eaten by giant sharks.
But the sharks (and the people they ate, toothy bite by toothy bite) are not what have kept Vaughn’s name in the headlines.
He may have just been the fictional mayor of Amity Island in the first two Jaws movies, but his short-sighted resistance toward protecting people from the sharks keeps his legacy alive and well. Forty-four years after Jaws made him no more than the fifth-most important character in one...
