Chiquis has never shied away from the challenges she’s faced in her personal life — in fact, her recent book Unstoppable, released in February, reckons with divorce, loss, and the responsibility she feels caring for her siblings following the death of her mother, the late Mexican-American star Jenni Rivera, ten years ago.
Chiquis’ fight to make it in the music industry has also been a tough battle that she’s been candid about, but on her new album, Abeja Reina, she’s done talking. Through 18 tracks that range from banda to corridos to R&b,...

Latin Grammy-winning singer and actor Daddy Yankee has signed with WME in all areas.
Yankee, born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, is credited as a founder of the reggaeton genre earning him the nickname “The King of Reggaeton.” He recently made history as the only Latin artist to log more than 1 billion Spotify streams on three tracks.
The Puerto Rican native has sold more than 17 million albums, charted 50 hit songs on Billboard charts, and is the only Latin artist with four Spanish-language songs to reach the Top 20 of Billboard’s Hot 100.
Yankee collaborated with Luis Fonsi and songwriter Erika Ender on the hit song “Despacito” in 2017 that would go on to become one of the biggest hits of that year.
On the small screen, he appeared in a five-episode arc of the CBS soap The Bold and the Beautiful in 2010, and as a guest diner on Hell’s Kitchen five years later.

On December 9, 2012, Mexican banda superstar Dolores Janney “Jenni” Rivera Saavedra shocked millions when she tragically died in a plane crash. There were no survivors. Jenni Rivera was 42.
Seven years later, the singer made national headlines when she became the first-ever regional Mexican music star to appear on a billboard in Times Square. It was a celebration of her latest release, “Aparentemente Bien,...

One of the most important narratives in contemporary pop has been the emergence of Latin music as a potent commercial force in the United States. Between 2016 and 2017, the number of Spanish-language entries on the Hot 100 jumped from a mere four to 19. So far this year, there have been at least 16 more charting singles. After years of calling up English-language acts and trying to convince them to collaborate, veteran A&Rs in the Latin music industry can now enjoy being chased by Anglo artists desperate for a streaming boost.

Luis Fonsi’s global hit “Despacito” has broken a new digital record.
The official video of the catchy Spanish-language track, featuring Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee, on Wednesday surpassed 5 billion views on YouTube — becoming the first video in the platform’s history to hit that watermark.
Note that it’s not the version of “Despacito” with Justin Bieber; the official video of that remix sits at a mere 7.6 million views. The song, whose title means “slowly” in English, is basically an ode to the pleasures of protracted lovemaking.
“Despacito” claimed the title as most-viewed YouTube video of all-time last August, and was No. 1 on YouTube’s ranking of music videos for 2017. The music video, released by Universal Music Latino, was directed by Carlos Perez and shot in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in December 2016.

When Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Erika Ender wrote "Despacito," they knew it'd be "special," but they had no idea how they'd make history. On January 12, 2017, Universal Music Latin released the song along with a music video that was filmed in La Perla, which is a neighborhood in Puerto Rico. But before we can talk about its success and all of the records it broke, we need to remember how it all happened. The song's lyrics were actually born in 2015 in Fonsi's home in Miami. "I woke up one morning with this despacito in my head, and it was pretty much that chorus melody and obviously just the word despacito...that's all I had. So then...

The nominees are in for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, and music's biggest night will feature some of your favorite artists ...though some were snubbed.
Singer-songwriter Andra Day announced the four major categories -- Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Album Of The Year -- on Tuesday's CBS This Morning.
As far as snubs go, Ed Sheeran was only nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance for his track, "Shape of You," to the shock of many of his fans. Lady Gaga and Kesha also received minimal nominations, despite the popularity of their albums.
However, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar earned quite a few Grammy nods, as well as Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" song that features Justin Bieber.
