Kaleidoscope is Netflix’s first big release of 2023, and it hasn’t disappointed audiences around the world. The crime drama stars Giancarlo Esposito as the leader of a team who is trying to pull off the biggest heist in modern history, one that was partially based on real events that happened in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The main draw of the show that has been pushed hard by the Netflix social media and marketing teams is that you can watch the eight episodes of the show in whatever order you want and still understand the story once you’ve completed the season. The gimmick even has star Esposito tweeting asking for fans’ episode orders and how it affected their enjoyment of the series.

This article contains spoilers for Kaleidoscope season 1.
In terms of creative TV structure, Netflix’s latest hit series Kaleidoscope is about as unique as they come. The show’s eight episodes (all named after colors naturally) follow the years, months, and days leading up to and after a grand heist and can be viewed in any order.
Only the eighth and final episode, “White,” has a consistent placement at the end of Netflix subscribers accounts. The remaining seven are presented in a random order for viewers to take in at the mercy of the algorithm’s suggestion, or to construct their own machete order of events.
While the way Kaleidoscope elects to present itself is unusual and rare, the story its eight episodes end up telling is surprisingly both conventional and conclusive. When presented in a strict chronological fashion, Kaleidoscope is a familiar genre story about the planning, execution, and fallout of a heist.

Move over, Bandersnatch, Netflix has a new choose-your-own-adventure show out for viewers. Kaleidoscope, a new series that premiered January 1, follows an expert crew as they try to pull off a 7 billion robbery (and like most good heist stories, possibly right some family wrongs along the way). Netflix created the show for a non-linear experience, which encourages viewers to watch the episodes leading up to the season finale in different orders.

Netflix’s newest heist series Kaleidoscope boasts a unique take on the genre – the order you watch the episodes, aside from the finale, doesn’t matter. You can start with almost any episode and therefore have a different viewing experience than someone else who started with a different one. According to Netflix, the series is “loosely inspired by the real-life story where seventy billion dollars in bonds went missing in downtown Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy, Kaleidoscope consists of eight episodes spanning from 24 years before the heist to 6 months after.”
But not only is the series able to draw people in with its intriguing premise and viewing structure, it also has a pretty stacked cast with several familiar faces. Here’s the who’s who of Kaleidoscope and where you’ve seen these actors before.

Netflix’s Kaleidoscope took a colorful crew of thieves and gave a fun spin to the typical heist drama, by detailing past motivations as well as chronicling the aftermath. Did the eight-episode series successfully steal your attention?

So much can be ascertained about a show from its colour palette. Look at how the snowy whiteouts of Nordic noir, or the persimmon plains of the American West, use colour to orient the viewer. This is where you are. But in Netflix’s new eight-part robbery romp, Kaleidoscope, colour throws viewer expectations into a phantasmagorical blender. From the greens of prison escapes to the yellows of diamond heists, the violets of memory to the reds of betrayal, the whole Dulux paint chart is on dazzling display.

The heist genre is always interesting because, despite its typically sleek, stylized nature, it usually brings a sense of comfort to the viewer. A movie like the blue-collar-tinged “Logan Lucky,” for example, wouldn’t be described as sleek — and perhaps not the same type of “aspirational” presentation of the criminal lifestyle that something like Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s” franchise is all about — but at the same time, it’s comforting for the same reasons as other heist media are. Because when it comes to the heist genre, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. When everything comes together, without fail, even the most rudimentary heist films and shows are still successes; because seeing the full picture and re-contextualizing everything is always satisfying. And Netflix’s new series “Kaleidoscope” fits that bill, but with a twist.

It seems like a lifetime ago, but in the early weeks of 2020, the then-named CBS All Access launched a show called “Interrogation.” The ten-episode season starred Peter Sarsgaard as a detective investigating a brutal murder where the accused killer was the woman’s son (Kyle Gallner). With a decent cast and a dour, decades-spanning saga, the idea was that viewers could share in the detective work and watch the show in any order they wanted. Following the clues at their convenience, they could hop around different years, suspects, and investigators to figure out what really happened that night in the early ‘80s.
Fast-forward a few years and the beginning of 2023 brings “Kaleidoscope,” a show that offers the same promise of TV-watching freedom, this time revolving around a massive ten-figure vault heist. Each episode is color-coded, offering any audience member a time-fragmented look at the lead-up to and the aftermath of the planned robbery.

Kaleidoscope is a series created by Eric Garcia starring Giancarlo Esposito, Paz Vega, Rufus Sewell and Jai Courtney.
Kaleidoscope is a story that can observed from different points of view, angles and situations. Each episode offer one view point and has its corresponding color: with flashbacks, pieces of the story and twists and turns in this kaleidoscopic puzzle, it offers us a bit of everything to create a good thriller.
About the Series
Note though, that it is not as novel as it appears to be.
Entertaining, humorous and with a good tempo. It has all the “hooks” to save us from the global hangover this New Year.
Kaleidoscope (2023)
It is a good series, but we are under the impression that it aimed high, shot and just barely made the mark, without being an “electrifying” viewing experience.
Using the classic heist premise, it doe shave good photography, a solid ensemble cast that deliver good performances.

In a landscape where streaming services are operating more and more like cable networks, it is important for platforms to take risks. In theory, that could take many forms, from greenlighting an unconventional story to introducing features solely unique to that platform. Netflix has tried taking some risks in the past with its platform, but very rarely do they result in any substantial changes.
"Kaleidoscope," created by novelist and screenwriter Eric Garcia, is another risk taker. The show centers around an ambitious bank heist led by the mysterious Leo Pap (Giancarlo Esposito), a concept that sounds pretty run-of-the-mill on its own. However, it's the show's eight-episode structure that takes center stage. All of the show's episodes, excluding a brief intro and the heist-centric finale, are randomly ordered for each user, resulting in the story playing out in a uniquely non-linear fashion.

Breaking convention is a fantastic way to stand out among a vast ocean of television series hitting the airwaves and streaming services weekly. Thankfully, Netflix‘s new crime series Kaleidoscope hopes to change how audiences interact with episodic content. An eight-part heist series, Kaleidoscope, will be distributed to Netflix subscribers in a random viewing order. That’s right, folks. You can watch Kaleidoscope any way you please and still walk away with a cohesive narrative. At least that’s the hook of the series, which has yet to go into practice.
For the uninitiated, Kaleidoscope follows a master thief and his crew over 25 years as they attempt a 7 billion heist together. When Netflix subscribers view the series, they will feed random episodes, except for the final chapter, for reasons that should be obvious. Each episode title is associated with a different color, with “White: The Heist” being the last chapter.

A new year is nearly upon us. Despite a 2022 chock-full of blockbuster movies and groundbreaking television, it is usually tough to have high expectations for the start of the new year. Historically, January has been the month that studios dump their unwanted projects to the masses to disappointing box office results. But the rise of streaming services has allowed for a healthier, more consistent dose of quality television and cinema throughout the year, from start to finish. And 2023 should be no different, especially judging by the upcoming titles coming to Netflix this January.
Netflix will be following up a jam-packed December with an almost equally-exciting lineup. In January, a slate of fan-favorite films will be making their way onto the streaming platform, while several new original projects look to impress audiences for the first time. If you want to revisit "Top Gun" or watch "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" for whatever reason,...

Netflix has never been shy about putting experimental TV on its platform, as seen with interactive specials like “Bandersnatch.” Now, the streamer is playing with the medium’s episodic format with “Kaleidoscope,” a new anthology series set to premiere New Year’s Day.
“Kaleidoscope” is loosely inspired by a real-life story of 70 billion in bonds gone missing in Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy, focusing on a group of thieves as they undergo a multi-decade-long plan to pull off the perfect heist on a seemingly unbreakable vault. A new Netflix anthology is on the way and it's likely to put a spin on your typical water cooler discussions. "Kaleidoscope" is certainly the kind of show you'll want to unpack with your friends: it's got high stakes, lots of intrigue, a mystery, and action-packed criminal hijinks. There's just one problem. Should you discuss the miniseries with someone before either of you has finished, you'll quickly realize that something is off: neither of you will have seen the same episodes.
"Kaleidoscope" isn't your average Netflix series — it's an immersive experience. Unlike most shows, this series was designed to be watched in any possible order. In fact, Netflix itself will be scrambling the episodes so that each viewer watches the series unfold in a different way.

Netflix has picked up the heist drama “Jigsaw” to series, with Giancarlo Esposito among the ensemble cast.
The series from creator Eric Garcia is loosely inspired by the real-life story where $70 billion in bonds went missing in downtown Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy. With a plot spanning 24 years, the series centers around the largest heist ever attempted and the vengeance, scheming, loyalties and betrayals that surround it.
Netflix described the eight-episode series as one that “builds intrigue and suspense” by taking a “non-linear approach to storytelling in a way where viewers are in control.”
In addition to Esposito, the cast also includes Paz Vega, Rufus Sewell, Tati Gabrielle, Peter Mark Kendall, Rosaline Elbay, Jai Courtney and Niousha Noor. Read full character descriptions below.
Garcia is creator, showrunner and executive producer. Jose Padilha will direct the first two episodes.

ABC has passed on three more pilots. Drama Acts of Crime and comedies Black Don’t Crack and Bucktown will not be picked up to series. They join comedy pilot Adopted, whose team was notified of ABC’s decision not to proceed with it Thursday night.
None of these pilots had stood out in the past months or so, with the frontrunners among ABC’s 2021 pilots produced before the upfronts, The Wonder Years, Queens, Maggie and Abbott Elementary all landing series pickups earlier today.
Meanwhile, several pilots were left in consideration for midseason, including Kevin Costner’s National Parks Investigation, which was filmed but not finished in time for the upfronts, drama pilots Epic, Promised Land and Dark Horse, which have not been shot, and off-cycle drama pilot Triage, which has undergone recuts with conflicting results.
Acts of Crime, written and directed by Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, marked Esmail’s first foray into broadcast television.

CBS All Access has canceled its fact-based dark drama series, Strange Angel, after two seasons.
Strange Angel just had its proverbial wings clipped by its platform home, CBS All Access, which has canceled the historically-based, lasciviously occult, television series, leaving no room for a third season.
CBS All Access’s cancelation of Strange Angel after two seasons on the premium streaming service, as reported by THR, marks only the second time in the platform’s five-year history that an original series has been met with cancelation, with the lone precedent stemming back to its December 2018 cancelation of drama One Dollar. However, it won’t be an isolated incident, with the merger of CBS and Viacom expected to unleash a deluge of new original content for CBS All Access, which will lead to a statistically-inevitable share of casualties.

Parker is best known for her role as Bernice on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Deuce and as Destiny on the Starz’s series Power.
