3rd Odi: Gautam Gambhir jokingly makes big predication about Sri Lanka's defeat, breaks the Internet
Mumbai, Jan 15 (Ians) Team India broke the record for the biggest win (by runs) in ODIs as it defeated Sri Lanka by 317 runs in the 3rd and final match of the series on Sunday in Thiruvananthapuram. India broke New Zealand’s record (win by 290 runs) to script history at the Greenfield Stadium.
It was not only Rohit Sharma’s team, former India opener Gautam Gambhir too broke the record, setting the internet afire by jokingly making a bold predication about the margin of India’s win — and it ultimately came true, catching the imagination of social media users.
Opting to bat, India posted a mammoth score of 390/5 in 50 overs with Virat Kohli (166 not out) and Shubhman Gill (116) hitting centuries. In response, Sri Lanka’s run-chase ended in merely 22 overs, as the side could only reach 73.
But something interesting happened in the studio room. In the middle of the Indian inning...

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 15 (Ians) After a 3-0 Odi series victory over Sri Lanka, India captain Rohit Sharma lavished praise on Mohammed Siraj, saying that the right-arm fast bowler is going from strength to strength.
Though India’s 317-run thrashing of Sri Lanka at the Greenfield International Stadium was shaped by centuries from Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, Siraj got the ball to move around and ran through the top order to pick his career-best figures of 4-32 in ten overs. Sri Lanka were bundled out for 73 all out in 22 overs.
India had even kept four slips and a gully for Siraj to get his five-fer, which didn’t happen after Kasun Rajitha got to overturn an lbw decision. “Don’t remember that. Was good to see how Siraj was bowling and deserved the slips. The way he is swinging the ball, he is a rare talent.”

New Delhi, Jan 15 (Ians) India’s batting sensation Virat Kohli smashed his 74th career and 46th Odi century against Sri Lanka in the third and final Odi of the three-match series setting fans on fire.
Fans went crazy on Koo App as this was Kohli’s third century in his last four Odi innings. Notably, it’s been just 15 days of the new year 2023 and Kohli already has two centuries under his belt. As suggested by many of his fans, King Kohli is back to his very best form since the T20 World Cup 2022.
“It hasn’t been the same, it never will be,” said one fan, remembering Kohli’s decision to step down as Test captain on this day last year.
“Goat, Kohli,” wrote one.
Meanwhile, Shubhman Gill took 89 balls to complete his second Odi century in the 3rd Odi match against Sri Lanka at Trivandrum.

New Delhi, Jan 15 (Ians) Premier India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin wants 2023 Odi World Cup matches, which will be played in India in October and November, to begin from 11.30am, a timing which is earlier than the usual 1:30pm start of day-night 50-over games in India.
Ashwin cited the example of India’s first Odi against Sri Lanka in Guwahati, where the Rohit Sharma-led side defended a mammoth 373 to win by 67 runs. “India batted brilliantly on a slow wicket and posted a score well above par. But they still ended up having to fight tooth and nail (to win against Sri Lanka).

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 15 (Ians) India captain Rohit Sharma has won the toss and elected to bat first against Sri Lanka in third and final Odi of the series at the Greenfield International Stadium here on Sunday.
India have already won the series, thanks to victories in Guwahati and Kolkata. A win in Thiruvananthapuram will give India a 3-0 series triumph, having won T20I series 2-1 earlier in the month.
After winning the toss, Rohit said India have brought in off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar and in-form batter Suryakumar Yadav in place of rested duo of Hardik Pandya and Umran Malik, which means India have three frontline spinners and two fast-bowling options.
“Looks a good pitch, try to make the most of it. Still a lot of areas we can keep improving, today gives up a chance to perfect those. We want to play close to a perfect game as we’ll...

In absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, Rahul has captained India at many occasions across formats, achieving a mixed success. Though the cricket fans didn’t like the captaincy style of the opener, he was considered ahead in the pecking order to become India’s next captain after Rohit.
However, Kl had an ordinary tour of Bangladesh with the bat and things changed drastically for him, with Hardik Pandya replacing him as the vice-captain of India for the ODIs against Sri Lanka, which gave an indication towards Rahul dim future as skipper for ‘Men in Blue’.
But Flower, who has worked with Rahul during his stints at Pbks and Lsg, is confident about the batter’s captaincy skill.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 14 (Ians) Though India have already clinched the Odi series against Sri Lanka by winning the first two matches in Guwahati and Kolkata, the Rohit Sharma-led side will be aiming for a clean sweep at the Greenfield International Stadium here on Sunday.
For Sri Lanka, who have been outwitted in the matches at Guwahati and Kolkata despite showing some fight, ending the tour on a high with a victory will be on their minds.
In India’s build-up to the 2023 Odi World Cup, to be held in the country in October and November, they have done fairly well. Rohit, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli did very well with the bat in Guwahati.
At Kolkata, wicket-keeper-batter K.L. Rahul showed that he can be a reliable batter at number five when he shared vital stands with Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in acing a chase of 216.

Kolkata, Jan 12 (Ians) India captain Rohit Sharma was in praise of wicketkeeper-batter Kl Rahul, saying the side gets confidence in a tricky run chase when an experienced batter is at the crease.
India’s chase of 216 was in threat of not being chased down when they were reduced to 86/4 in 14.2 overs.
But Rahul stood tall in an under-pressure situation to slam a gutsy unbeaten 64 off 103 balls and take India over the line for an unassailable 2-0 series lead. He stitched a crucial 75-run partnership off 119 balls with Hardik Pandya, before putting stands of 30 and 28 not out with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav for hunting down the total with 40 balls to spare.
“It was a close game but games like these teach you a lot. Kl has been batting at 5 for a long time now, it gives you that confidence when an experienced batter is batting at 5. It was a good display of batsmanship,...

Kolkata, Jan 12 (Ians) Wicketkeeper-batter Kl Rahul stepped up when it mattered the most to pull India out of a tricky stage by slamming his 12th Odi fifty and carry them to a hard-fought four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second Odi at Eden Gardens, here on Thursday.
After Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj picked three wickets each to bundle out Sri Lanka for 215, the visitors’ bowlers reduced India to 86/4. But Rahul kept his calm and batted sensibly under pressure to make an unbeaten 64 off 103 balls, and struck a crucial 75-run partnership with Hardik Pandya to take India over the line with 40 balls to spare, giving the hosts’ a series win.
Chasing 216, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill smacked six boundaries in the first four overs. But Rohit fell in the fifth over to Chamika Karunaratne, giving a regulation catch to the keeper while looking to punch it through covers without any footwork.

Guwahati, Jan 10 (Ians) India skipper Rohit Sharma was pleased with the “great” effort from all his batters to make an imposing 373 and set the base for 67-run victory over Sri Lanka in the Odi series opener at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, here on Tuesday.
