Writer/directors David Charbonier and Justin Powell follow up their tale of the all too real horrors of human trafficking, The Boy Behind the Door, with another tale of a young boy forced to fight for his life. In The Djinn the threat is a supernatural one.
After the death of his mother (Tevy Poe; Redwood Massacre: Annihilation) Dylan a mute twelve year old and his radio DJ father Michael relocate to a new home. One that, in true horror movie fashion, the previous occupant died in.
While looking around his new home he, again in keeping with genre traditions, finds a copy of The Book of Shadows which contains a spell to conjure a Djinn (John Erickson) that will grant him his fondest wish, to be able to speak. The...

"We start thinking about the things we're missing... and forget about the things we have." Holy hell this looks freaky! IFC Films has released an official trailer for the indie horror The Djinn, finally being released in May this year in both theaters + on VOD at the same time. A mute boy is trapped in his apartment with a sinister monster when he makes a wish to fulfill his heart's greatest desire. That is a simple setup, but this looks insanely creepy overall. This stars Ezra Dewey as Dylan, along with Rob Brownstein, Tevy Poe, Donald Pitts, and John Erickson. The apartment cinematography in this (by Dp Julián Estrada) is what makes it effectively scary. This really seems like it could end up a sleeper hit just because it's so disturbing. Here's the first official trailer for David Charbonier & Justin Powell's The Djinn, from IFC's YouTube: A...

The Djinn: "The story follows a mute twelve-year-old, Dylan Jacobs, as he discovers a mysterious book of spells inside his new apartment. Grieving the loss of his mother, and feeling isolated from everyone except for his father, Dylan performs a ritual that promises to deliver his heart’s desire: to have a voice. But he soon discovers that every gift has a toll when a sinister djinn arrives to collect his soul. Now trapped in his new home with nowhere to hide, Dylan must find a way to survive until the stroke of midnight or pay the ultimate price."
