The Curse of Dracula, aka The Curse of Valburga, is a Slovenian horror comedy that is loosely linked with the famous vampire. Valburga being the apparent cousin of Dracula and his mansion in Slovenia is the location for a tourist tour where things don’t go quite as planned.
I don’t think I have seen any other Slovenian movies, let alone Slovenian horror movies but Slovenia is a country I have visited and really liked. Much of The Curse of Dracula is filmed in the capital city of Ljubljana but you couldn’t really tell. And it’s a shame that the filmmakers couldn’t make use of the many beautiful places in the country including the lakes and surrounding forests that are briefly mentioned.

Tagline: "Horror Never Remains Buried Deep Enough." The Curse of Valburga is one of the first horror films from Slovenia. Director Tomaz Gorkic created the first Slovenian horror film, Idyll aka Killbillies (2015). His latest is self-described as a: "politically incorrect slasher comedy." Set in a local manor, several tourists are led into an attraction, that promises vampires and ancient history. But, the horror here is more real than fake. This horror comedy has already had a few film festival stops, with a "Best Film" win at the Dracula Film Festival. Now, a trailer is available below, which shows more of the film's 70s infused style of filmmaking. The longer synopsis mentions the various tourists. There are Swedish satanists in search of an ancient relic, French Goths on a vampire hunt and a group of German tourists - just out for fun. All of these characters become trapped in the manor...

*full disclosure: minor spoilers are here. Director/writer: Tomaz Gorkic. Cast: Nina Ivanisin, Lotos Sparovec, Nika Rozman and Sebastian Cavazza. Killbillies is the first horror film from the country of Slovenia. Located in Eastern Europe, this locale offers a very rural backdrop, where cannibals can kill again and again. An Artsploitation Films' release, this title, which was scheduled to release in October, is already available on Youtube. And, gorehounds will want to take a look at this title as Killbillies offers many creative blood effects. But, horror vets' may have seen this film before. Director Tomaz Gorkic has been heavily influenced by Tobe Hooper's 1974 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre; many scenes from this earlier title are replayed here. Still, Killbillies offers a lot of terror, in the gorgeous backdrop of Slovenia. The film begins with a photographer and his two models. They setup a shoot, in the Slovenian countryside.
