Four American best friends decide to take the back roads travelling to a wedding in England, on their way a deadly secret forces the girls to be stranded in the woods, where they discover a house occupied by Miss Perkins, who promises to look after them until help comes. Little do the girls know, a dark evil lurks in the attic above them, waiting until they’re alone and only when the girls come face to face with ‘it’ will they truly discover what real horror is…
I’ll be honest, it’s been years since I last saw former video nasty Unhinged, even the 2014 re-release DVD from 88 Films (who alos released this iteration of the film) passed me by. So...

I don’t think there is ever a good time to buy a house on a lake. I mean, why would you? Yeah it might be “pretty” or have a lovely view but the main problem is you’re out in the middle of nowhere. You may have one neighbour but they are all but guaranteed to be a nut-job. The rest is miles of trees and lake. If you ever get in trouble, you’re basically screwed. But I get it, people do buy these houses. But explain this to me. Why would you buy a house on a lake where recently someone murdered their entire family and then committed suicide (Hmm, sounds familiar) I honestly do not see the logic in it, at all. It’s basically horror 101 and you’re going to die. Or maybe not. Who knows?

House on Elm Lake opens with a terrified mother and young son bound and gagged while their knife-wielding patriarch paces and rants. The terror and confusion beams across loud and clear. Whatever is wrong with the husband, no amount of pleading from his wife or his child will change their fate. The scene is tense, the scene is harrowing, and because this is a horror movie, the scene is full of stabbing. Cut to years later and a new family, Haley, Eric, and their daughter Penny, movie into the quaint, lakeside home.
What the script lacks in originality, it certainly makes up for in competent scares. The haunted house genre may be well-worn territory, but it’s been a horror staple over several decades for a good reason.

Here's the trailer for "Mother Krampus", set for Blu-ray release in November.
