Conor McGregor vs. Dwayne Johnson: Who Cashed the Bigger Check?
Did Conor McGregor really set a world record with his Road House payday? That’s what the onetime UFC superstar has been bragging about in recent weeks, claiming he’s now “the highest paid first-time actor of all time.” If true — and McGregor, 35, hasn’t disclosed how much he got for his debut role in Amazon’s reboot of the 1989 kickboxing flick — he would beat Dwayne Johnson’s record of $5.5 million for 2002’s Scorpion King. While some have scoffed at his claim, sources indicate he was indeed paid in that ballpark, and given the Irishman’s stature in the martial arts world and the offers he has turned down (he accepted a role opposite Vin Diesel in 2017’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage, only to back out before filming began) it wouldn’t be surprising if some sort of record was broken.

The already tenuous relationship between Condé Nast and the union that represents around 550 of its staffers at Vanity Fair, Vogue and GQ, among other publications, appears to be hanging by a thread.
On Wednesday afternoon, around 35 Condé Union members marched to executives’ offices to protest additional layoffs that they say were threatened during labor negotiations on Tuesday. During Tuesday’s bargaining session over a first contract, the company said it intended to add five more staffers to its preexisting list of employees set to be cut and warned that the company could add more, according to the Condé Union, which also represents workers at Condé Nast Entertainment, Bon Appétit, Allure, Architectural Digest, Condé Nast Traveler, Epicurious, Teen Vogue, Glamour and Self. (Some New Yorker staffers bargain in a separate union.)
The Condé Union further alleges that the company did not provide any counterproposals on union asks from the previous week...

Rupert Murdoch is engaged to Elena Zhukova, a retired molecular biologist, with plans for a wedding.
A source confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday that the 92-year-old media mogul plans to marry Zhukova, 62, on June 1 in a ceremony on his California vineyard and estate, Moraga.
Murdoch reportedly started dating Zhukova in the summer after he met her through his third wife, Wendi Deng. Zhukova is said to be a retired molecular biologist who was studying diabetes, including at the University of California, Los Angeles. The New York Times first reported the new engagement.
The news comes nearly a year after Murdoch announced his engagement to Ann Lesley Smith, a retired dental hygienist, in the spring of 2023. But he broke it off a few weeks later.
The upcoming June nuptials would make it Murdoch’s fifth marriage. He was previously married to model Jerry Hall from 2016 to 2022.

The Hollywood Reporter has hired Lachlan Cartwright as special correspondent.
In his new role, Cartwright will cover media, entertainment and politics, examining the power holders across industries. Cartwright will work bicoastally, reporting to THR co-editors-in-chief Maer Roshan and Nekesa Mumbi Moody. He begins his role Jan. 29.
“After almost six scoop-filled years at The Daily Beast, I’m pumped to join The Hollywood Reporter and report from the power centers of New York, Hollywood and D.C. and create a new agenda setting newsletter,” said Cartwright. “For someone who loves breaking yarns, the opportunity to collaborate with Maer and Nekesa, along with the THR team, in this black swan year where the intersection of media, politics and entertainment will dominate the nation’s agenda, is too much of a compelling prospect to pass up. I can’t wait to get cracking.”
Said Roshan: “We are thrilled to bring Lachlan onto the team.
