Mohit Kakodkar is a cinematographer based in Mumbai, India. He brings with him his quirky and unique sensibilities that adds a certain wow factor to every frame that he sets. Understanding director's vision, thinking creatively and adding nuances to every frame is Mohit's way of working.
Born and brought up in Goa. After finishing his Engineering in 2011, he joined Zee Institute of Media Arts in Mumbai. Post that, he assisted famed Cinematographers Mr. Nadeem Khan and Mr. Rajan Kothari for Yaar Pardesi and Aajacha Divas Majha respectively. In 2014, he shot his first TV series "Bliss" for TravelXP channel. In 2015, he shot his first regional feature film "Home Sweet Home" with director Swapnil Shetkar, which was a raging hit and changed the scope of Konkani film industry. In 2016, he shot his first hindi feature film "Tony" with director Vipul Rawat, a well acclaimed writer of films like Iqbaal, Rustom, etc.
Mohit has also shot award winning TV series "Raja Rasoi aur Anya Kahaniyaan" and "Raja Rasoi aur Andaaz Anokha", where his biggest learning was how to make food look delicious and dramatic.
Mohit is quite adept at handling technology, and he has worked on cameras like Arri Alexa XT, Alexa Mini, Red Epic, Red Dragon, Canon C300, Canon 1DX, Canon 1DC, Canon 5D, Sony A7S, BlackMagic, etc. He is also comfortable drone operator.
He believes that lighting for a scene is like makeup on an artist. If it is apparently visible on screen, then the battle is lost. And to that effect he does not completely depend on the gaffer for lighting. He creates his own lighting pattern and lighting map in every frame.
Listening and learning is his habit and he loves trying new things. He understands that success and failures are a part of experimentation, but it should be done to push the boundaries.
In his personal and professional life, Mohit lives by a few mantras that he has picked up along his journey some of which are: Life is the biggest teacher Nature is the only God Smile and respect are true wealth.
