Jennifer Garner and Edgar Ramirez are at the mercy of their kids in this unmemorable family comedy
Think of a yes day as The Purge for kids. For 24 hours every year, (almost) all laws don’t apply. Their parents, who usually and understandably say no to the majority of requests, are forced to say yes to everything as long as it doesn’t result in death or some sort of illegal behaviour. It’s apparently a thing that happens, inspired by the children’s book by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld, and while the idea might give even those of us adults who don’t have kids a severe case of night sweats, it’s one that will drive anyone younger into a frenzy.

Twenty-five years ago, “Yes Day” would have been a dumbed-down high-concept Hollywood family comedy, and you could say it still is. The difference is that now it’s the Netflix version, which means, in this case, that it’s not so much “dumb” as post-psychological. The premise, for anyone who’s a parent, will sound rather catchy. Allison (Jennifer Garner), taken to task by her three children for being a Debbie Downer of a mom — a joyless disciplinarian who’s perpetually saying “No” — agrees to indulge her kids in a Yes Day. That is, for an entire day, she and her husband, the genial Carlos (Edgar Ramirez), will have to say yes to any request, big or small, that the kids make. “No, you can’t do that” isn’t on the table. The idea is that this will act as a kind of do-what-you-please purge for the children — a...

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have marked their son Archie’s first birthday today by releasing a short film that shows Meghan reading him one of his favourite books, Duck! Rabbit!, to support Save the Children's Save With Stories initiative, aimed at helping children hardest hit by the Covid-19 crisis both here in the UK and around the world.
Meghan and Archie reading Duck! Rabbit!
The film, shot by Harry in California last weekend and posted on Save the Children’s Instagram account, shows Archie perched on his mother’s lap in a white t-shirt and nappy and turning the pages of Duck! Rabbit! as she reads.
The Duchess laughs as Archie’s attention momentarily wanders and he throws another book to the floor. The Duke is heard cheering at the end of the story. Archie responds by saying, ‘Da, da, da.’

Exclusive: Edgar Ramírez, the double Golden Globe and Emmy nominated actor who played Gianni Versace in FX’s lauded limited series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story has boarded Jennifer Garner’s Netflix movie Yes Day.

Adapted by Justin Malen (Office Christmas Party), Yes Day is based on the children’s book by Tom Lichtenheld and Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Entertainment 360 and Grey Matter Productions are also producing.

Netflix has bought worldwide rights to Jennifer Garner’s “Yes Day,” based on the 2009 children’s book of the same name.
Garner came on board the project earlier this year and will produce and star. Miguel Arteta, who worked with Garner on “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” will direct from a script by Justin Malen.
“Yes Day” is a New York Times best-seller from author Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrator Tom Lichtenheld. On “Yes Day,” kids receive only positive answers from their parents to requests such as pizza for breakfast, late bedtimes, and food fights.
Earlier this year, Garner and her three children — 6-year-old Samuel, 9-year-old Seraphina, and 12-year-old Violet — celebrated their sixth annual “Yes Day.” Entertainment 360 and Grey Matter Productions are producing the project.
It’s the third high-profile movie acquisition this week for Netflix. The streamer also bought Steven Soderbergh’s basketball drama “High Flying Bird,...
