The Misfit of Demon King Academy is a very popular fantasy adventure novel series written by Shu. The original series has been ongoing since 2017, with the light novel series currently consisting of 14 volumes illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma. It has also been adapted into an ongoing anime series, whose first season ran from July 4 to September 26, 2020. A second season was announced, consisting of two non-consecutive cours. The first one, containing 12 episodes, aired from January 8 to September 24, 2023, and was plagued by issues and delays. Still, the second cour of Silver Link’s anime series is on track to premiere on April 13, 2024, and we now have yet another trailer for the upcoming series ahead of the premiere.

The ending theme song has been revealed for the Vampire Dormitory anime, and this one has three of the main cast members getting in on a cover. Netflix unpacked a swath of news during its Netflix Anime Festival 2020 livestream Tuesday out of Japan, setting five new anime projects and providing updates on 11 other series in various stages of production at the streamer’s bustling Tokyo headquarters.
The new original projects — continuation Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure, manga-based Thermae Romae Novae, High-Rise Invasion and Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, and The Way of the Househusband — were unveiled along with updates on 11 others previously announced including anime series based on franchises including Resident Evil, Transformers and Pacific Rim, Yasuke featuring the voice of Lakieth Stanfield, and the continuation of the manga tale Baki Hanma.

Netflix is going all in on anime as they add the eagerly anticipated Godzilla movie and 12 other projects to their slate of upcoming programming. Deadline says in addition to the series the network is also overseeing the development of Cannon Busters, Devilman Crybaby, B: The Beginning, and Knights Of The Zodiac: Saint Seiya just to name a few.
The Godzilla and Saint Seiya grabs really show that Netflix is working to grab their Western audience who loves anime, but with competitors like Crunchyroll and Funimation (who was recently bought by Sony) in the mix, who knows if they'll be able to compete on that front. Time will tell, but the addition of so many projects seems promising for the future of anime on the platform.
