Chief Detective 1958 is a Korean detective series created by Park Jae-beom. The Mbc TV K-drama serves as a prequel series to the 1971 Korean series Chief Inspector with the new series being set in the 1950s to 1960s, 10 years before the original series events take place. Chief Detective 1958 follows the story of Detective Park Yeong-han, an ace when it comes to catching petty criminals but he begins to feel frustrated with the corrupt system of the police and decides to do something about it.
Chief Detective 1958 has hit the ground running with a charming cast and an intense story that easily hooks the new audience while paying homage to the original series. The first few episodes of the K-drama set up a story that could take us to some wild places and tell us the journey of Park Yeong-han becoming the man he was in the original series.

Raging Grace (2023) by Paris Zarcilla
There's quite a lot to like with “Raging Grace.” Among its brighter aspects is a solid central setup by writer/director Zarcilla that makes for a wholly engaging scenario. The first half explores quite heavily and naturally the desperation Joy feels at keeping her life in order, despite it all crumbling down around her. This ranges from the struggles of finding housing for her and Grace, facing racism and misogynistic abuse for the work she does, and the natural indignation of being a single mother. This gives the new job opportunity with Katharine such a sense of importance for Joy which she can use as a means of escaping this lifestyle only to end up stumbling upon a far more dangerous threat inside Katharine's house which gets uncovered slowly during her employment. This is handled incredibly well for a great start to things. (Don Anelli...

“Mother Land” is a Korean Academy of Film Arts (Kafa) project that marks the feature debut of director Park Jae-beom, and is also the first first South Korean stop-motion feature film since Gang Tae-ung's “Kongjui & Patchui” was released in 1978.
Mother Land is screening at Fantasia International Film Festival
The Yates people are a nomadic tribe that live in the Siberian Tundra, adhering to a hard, but traditional and rather respectful to nature lifestyle, despite the powers of change that seem to come from all over the place, and particularly Russia. Little girl Krisha, her even younger brother Kolya, and their father and mother live in harmony in the particular fashion. Trouble starts, however, when the mother is involved in an accident and is injured, and even more, when forceful Russian military officer Vladimir and his surly subordinate Bazak, a Yate hunter at odds with his own people, appear, stating...

My favourite film festival is back for another year! With its wide variety of films, spanning almost every genre, there’s literally a film for everyone, and this year’s Fantasia is no different. Although the full line-up has yet to be announced, he’s a handful of the movies to be looking out for already.
Lovely, Dark and Deep – This is the directorial debut of Teresa Sutherland, writer of The Wind and on Midnight Mass – a small but excellent C.V. Starring Barbarian’s Georgina Campbell in its lead, she plays a park ranger in an isolated forest post, the site of multiple disappearances. This genre movie promises to be visually stunning while also bringing the scares. Fantasia will host its World Première. Aporia – Another World Première, this one from writer/director Jared Moshe. A time-bending, character-driven sci-fi movie starring Judy Greer. That description is enough to garner most...
