The series examines the all-too-timely theme of class struggles in the season of a pandemic, as a cast of misfits tries to outlast the bubonic plague pandemic in 1348 Florence. The Decameron stars Tony Hale, Zosia Mamet, Saoirse Monica-Jackson, Tanya Reynolds and more.
“When something like a plague comes along, the ground goes even,” said Hale. “It doesn’t matter. So what am I investing in? What relationships am I investing in? How am I treating people? That’s the stuff that matters.”

In recent years, we've seen more and more news of book-to-film adaptations getting TV remakes. Examples include His Dark Materials, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Interview with the Vampire, Reacher, as well as upcoming high-octane adaptations like Twilight and, of course, Harry Potter.
Some of us see this pop culture phenomenon as a miserable exploitation of once-popular franchises, while others are thrilled by the success of the aforementioned reboots. But what few can argue with is the fact that in 2024, technological capabilities have improved and the series can accommodate much more detail than the movie.
That's why the upcoming Harry Potter show could be a great opportunity for a long-awaited depiction of one of the best moments in the book that was barely touched on in the movie.
New Harry Potter Show Already in the Works
In April 2023, Warner Bros. officially announced that J.K. Rowling's fantasy novels would officially get a new live-action adaptation.

A simmering, years-long row between J.K. Rowling and broadcaster India Willoughby has spilled over into a police complaint against the Harry Potter author over alleged transphobia.
Willoughby, who has appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK and co-hosted shows including Loose Women, said she had reported Rowling to Northumbria Police in recent days.
In an interview with Byline TV, Willoughby claimed she had a “cut and dry” complaint against Rowling, arguing that she had been repeatedly misgendered by the writer.
Willoughby underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2015 and was credited with being the first transgender TV news reporter in the UK, working for ITV Tyne Tees regional news.
In recent days, Rowling has repeatedly declined to use Willoughby’s preferred pronouns and has openly mocked the broadcaster in posts on Twitter, now X.

As Deadline reported exclusively earlier this month, the field of writers in the running to adapt Jk Rowling’s Harry Potter books into a live-action series for Max has been narrowed down to three finalists. We can now reveal their names — according to sources, they are Francesca Gardiner, Tom Moran and Kathleen Jordan. The trio will be able to hone in on their pitches for the next couple of months, with a decision on who gets the job expected in June, we hear. As Warner Bros. Prepare to board the train to Hogwarts as the Harry Potter live-action series reboot may have zeroed in on its showrunner, as this recent report alludes. Previously, several names were being thrown into the mix, and it was believed Succession writer Francesca Gardiner was shortlisted as one of the finalists who’d be in the running to snag the role of the upcoming show’s creative leader.
This latest scoop, though, affirms that Warner Bros. may have settled on a clear winner to spearhead the adaptation, and it could indeed be Gardiner.

The Harry Potter television series is closer to naming its creative leader as Deadline understands that the shortlist is now down to three names.
We hear that Succession writer Francesca Gardiner is now among the finalists to score the job of adapting Jk Rowling’s books for the Max streaming platform. It’s understood that Gardiner is now one of three writers currently being considered to lead Harry and his pals on the small screen.
A decision is expected soon. Max and Warner Bros. Television declined to comment.
Gardiner has emerged after Deadline revealed last month that there were four other writers in contention: Martha Hillier, Kathleen Jordan, Tom Moran and Michael Lesslie. It’s not clear which of these writers are still involved.

Warner Bros is meeting with writers as plans for a ten-year Harry Potter television series continue to move forward.
The story so far. The Harry Potter series of eight movies proved so wildly successful that Warner Bros was keen to get some kind of spin-off going.
Author J K Rowling, someone who it’d be fair to say has attracted some opinions in recent times, duly made the jump from book author to screenwriter, and we got the tepid Fantastic Beasts collection of films. There were supposed to be five of them, but the franchise appears to have stopped at three, with dwindling interest and box office returns seemingly stopping the series in its tracks.
Warner Bros thus decided to go back to the drawing board, and rather than try something new, it now wants a fresh adaptation of Rowling’s novels instead. This time they’re heading for TV,...

Exclusive: Following the success of Shonda Rhimes-produced steamy Regency romance Bridgerton, Netflix is betting on another soapy period drama produced by a top showrunner from its roster of overall deals, Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan. The streamer has given an eight-episode series order to The Decameron, from Kathleen Jordan, creator of Netflix’s Teenage Bounty Hunters, and Kohan who executive produced the teen drama alongside her.
Created by Jordan, who serves as showrunner, The Decameron is set in 1348 when the Black Death, the deadliest pandemic in human history which killed as many as 200 million people, strikes hard in the city of Florence. A handful of nobles are invited to retreat with their servants to a grand villa in the Italian countryside and wait out the pestilence with a lavish holiday. But as social rules wear thin, what starts as a wine-soaked sex romp in the hills...

Exclusive: Comedian Heather McMahan, who is set to feature in upcoming Netflix film Love Hard, is prepping a half-hour comedy for Peacock based on her own life.
McMahan, who has been a regular co-host and guest on the Today Show with Hoda & Jenna, lost her father to cancer in December 2015 and gave up her acting career and relocated from LA to Atlanta to move in with her mother.
This is in the inspiration for Good Grief, which follows three vibrant women who are forced to confront a world they thought they knew after the patriarch of the affluent McDaniel family kicks the bucket. The trio take an honest and humorous look at their inner selves, no matter how absurd life can seem to be. There is only one thing they know for certain now, and that’s how exhausting – and good – grief is.

The show cracked the Nielsen Streaming Rankings Top 10 for the week of August 17-23.

“Teenage Bounty Hunters,” which launched last week on Netflix, is a series set in a broadly satirized private high school environment, in which sheltered, Type A young people with a knack for rivalrousness and secrecy end up enmeshed in heightened drama.
In other words, it’s like “The Politician” — except good.
The new series, which has been perched in Netflix’s top-ten most-watched column in recent days, bears similarities in situation and in vervy energy to Ryan Murphy’s drama, which launched last year to a muted reception. The difference between the two shows may suggest a smart path for Netflix to continue walking down: Working on crafting purposefully small shows rather than reverse-engineering a zeitgeist hit through famous names.

Building a show around a pair of siblings has its challenges. Especially in the case of “Teenage Bounty Hunters” — which finds fraternal twins Sterling (Maddie Phillips) and Blair (Anjelica Bette Fellini) juggling the demands of high school and a part-time gig apprehending criminals. A central relationship around a close family bond needs a certain kind of calibration. Make the two too trusting of each other and you lose any sense of tension. Have them at each other’s throats all the time and it becomes repetitive.
But with Phillips and Fellini as anchors, “Teenage Bounty Hunters” avoids that problem altogether. Whether it’s in the pair’s occasional twin telepathy side conversations or in the regular day-in-review chatter, having these sisters who clearly care about each other is worth recommending the show all on its own. That persists whether they’re trying to navigate the tricky waters of high-school crushes or fledgling undercover detective work.

Orange Is The New Black creator Jenji Kohan is working up a quarantine anthology series for Netflix.
Kohan and her team including Hilary Weisman Graham, Diego Velasco, Tara Herrmann and Blake McCormick have created Social Distance for the streamer.

How do you follow Orange Is the New Black and Glow?
With Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters, of course.
That's the title of Jenji Kohan's latest Netflix series and leads have been cast!
The comedy from creator Kathleen Jordan and Tara Herrmann chose Maddie Phillips (Van Helsing) and Anjelica Bette Fellini (The Gifted) as their stars.
If you're unfamiliar with Jordan, you can find American Princess on Lifetime, a bawdy comedy following a newly single woman who takes up with the local Renaissance Faire.
Herrmann is Kohan's producing partner and they work together on Orange and Glow.
Robert Suddeth (Mad Men) is also a producer on the series.
The Haunting of Hill House Sequel: Victoria Pedretti Returning in Lead Role
Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters does have a story beyond it's tremendous title, too!

Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters,Netflix’s new comedy series from Kathleen Jordan, Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann, will film in Atlanta, Georgia. The shoot is tentatively slated for July-October.
The news comes a month after Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos became the first top Hollywood executive to take a stand against Georgia’s May passage of a strict abortion law, saying that the streaming giant would “rethink our entire investment in Georgia” if legislation known as the “heartbeat bill” became state law.
The choice of Atlanta as a location had been made months before Georgia voted on the bill; it stems from the material as Jordan is from Atlanta. The series had been in pre-production for awhile; Kohan posted an Instagram photo on March 2 from Atlanta where the Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters team had been pre-scouting locations.
