Noor Theatre is casting four singing roles for a new play with songs called “Dead Are My People.” The show is being produced at New York Theatre Workshop’s Next Door and is the first full-length commission for the theater. The play is written by Ismail Khalidi (“Tennis in Nablus”), with original compositions by Hadi Eldebek (Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble) and direction by Leah C. Gardiner (“The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner”). The title of the play comes from a poem by Khalil Gibran. The story follows Nicola, “a young Syrian man who flees to the U.S. from famine-stricken Mount Lebanon during World War I. Once there, he hopes to track down his uncle Tanios, who emigrated West years before.
