Spooky Korean drama film “Exhuma” held on at the top of the local box off ice chart for the sixth consecutive weekend. It saw off challenges from significant newcomers “Troll Factory” and “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.”
The Choi Min-sik-starring “Exhuma” dropped 32% week-on-week to record $3.08 million between Friday and Sunday, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). That gives it a cumulative total of $78.7 million, earned from nearly 11 million spectators.
“Troll Factory,” a crime drama, in which an investigative journalist is lured into probing an online scam company only for his informant to mysteriously disappear, was the weekend’s highest-placed new release. Directed by Ahn Gooc-jin and starring Son Suk-ku (Netflix’s “A Killer Paradox”), it earned $2.56 million, good enough for second place, between Friday and Sunday. Over its five opening days it built a total of $3.75 million.

A Netflix Korean thriller, A Killer Paradox is an eight-part series that introduced to us a twisting and intriguing storyline with a stellar cast who play some really twisted characters. Choi Woo-shik as the show’s central protagonist, Lee Tang, and Son Suk-ku as the lead detective Nam-gam are the most stunning actors who delivered a powerful performance in this series, but we must not forget the other supporting characters, who brought multiple dimensions to the story. Let’s talk about these intriguing characters and their journey and learn how they became an integral part of the story.

Portrayed by Choi Woo-shik, Lee Tang was an ordinary student with dreams of going to Australia for higher studies, but his dream ended when he found himself on a violent killing rampage. Lee Tang could have never imagined that he would kill someone, but when a passerby acted violently and...

Netflix is doing pretty well when it comes to South Korean content, as it is dominating the market in the US. With massive hits like Squid Games, All of Us Are Dead, and Hellbound the streaming service has added another surefire hit to the list. Based on the Naver Webtoon titled SalinjaㅇNangam (A Killer Paradox) by Kkomabi, A Killer Paradox revolves around a submissive college student who accidentally kills a serial killer with a hammer. Currently revelling in the success of recently-uploaded Don Lee-starring film “Badland Hunters” and already teasing the second season of “Squid Game,” Netflix has unveiled a major slate of Korean films and series for 2024.
In August last year, Netflix publicly committed to investing $2.5 billion on Korean content over the next four years. That reflected both Netflix’s position as the country’s leading streamer, with an estimated 6.5 million subscribers, and its adopted role as one of the biggest exporters of Korean film and TV content.
“We were able to make this [investment] decision because we have great confidence that the Korean creative industry will continue to tell great stories,” said the streamer’s co-chief Ted Sarandos at the time of the spending commitment.

International K-Drama Day: From The Glory 2 To Moving Top 10 Must-Watch Korean Shows Of 2023 ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Korean dramas have provided a safe and comforting space to the audience over the years. Contrary to popular belief, K-dramas are not just about cliched romantic comedies, though there is nothing wrong with that, but also teach us many life lessons along the way. If K-fanatics are to be believed, 2023 has proved to be one fruitful year, with many heartwarming shows providing a feeling of contentment this year.
While K-dramas have been around for quite some time now, it wasn’t until a few years ago that Netflix, Viki, Disney+ Hotstar, and Prime Videos, among other streaming spaces, began streaming Korean shows, opening up a new dimension for global viewers. In 2023, all of these Ott giants have done a commendable job of delivering some top-notch K-dramas that have managed to swoon every drama lover out there.

"You need a good ass whooping!" Madman Films has debuted the new Australian trailer for a Korean action movie called The Roundup, which is actually a sequel to 2017's The Outlaws, also about renegade cops. The film was already released in both South Korea and the US back in May earlier this year, but it was such a quiet release we never heard about it or posted a trailer back then. I caught up with the film at the Sitges Film Festival in October and it's a blast. Train to Busan star Ma Dong-seok leads this action crime film as "The Beast Cop" who heads to Vietnam to extradite a suspect. However, he discovers additional murder cases and learns about a killer who had committed crimes against tourists for many years. He gets caught up in even more crime and chaos trying to find and stop the criminals before they disappear once again.

One of the most enjoyable South Korean action movies in recent years, 2017’s “The Outlaws” was a deft mix of brutal gang-warfare thrills and Keystone Cops comedics. It provided an ideal vehicle for Ma Dong-seok aka Don Lee (“Train to Busan” and “Eternals”) as the police investigator whose hit-first-ask-permission-later methods regularly got the job done while infuriating his superiors.
That burly protagonist and his sidekicks are back in “The Roundup,” which despite a different directorial (newbie Lee Sang-yong replacing the prior edition’s Kang Yoon-seong) and writing crew, maintains the original’s strengths. It arguably kicks them up a notch further, . Pre-sold to most offshore territories, it’s currently playing U.S. and Canadian theaters as a Capelight Pictures release.
After a prologue showing the abduction of a wealthy young Korean in Ho Chi Minh City, we re-encounter our ham-fisted hero in 2008, four years after the earlier film’s events.
