We’re all psyched for Tony Todd to be voicing Venom in Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is set for a very busy October release. The development team sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss Todd’s casting, and what Candyman himself brings to the role. In addition, the team also unveiled Venom’s look in the game in a new image you’ll find below.
According to Bryan Intihar, senior creative director at Insomniac Games, casting the voice of Venom was a difficult one. “I was so scared of who we were going to get to do the voice. We knew it would be so anticipated and people would have a lot of opinions on it.” Fortunately for him (and us), Todd had submitted an audition tape for Venom, which according to Intihar, captured everything that the team had talked about the character. “Tony embraces that completely in the performance.

“Representation is so important. It’s something we wanted to put in this game, even in a small way like this.”
That’s a developer from Insomniac Games there, outlining the reasons why representation of the Lgbt community was considered crucial to the dev team during the production of Marvel’s Spider-Man.
It’s the PS4 exclusive that’s currently stealing headlines left, right and center (our review), whether it’s for the addition of Stan Lee or the painstaking detail on display – Insomniac even recorded all audio twice so that Peter Parker’s dialogue sounds strained when he’s swinging between the skyscrapers of New York City. How’s that for attention to detail?
Over on Twitter (h/t ComicBook.com), for instance, a number of gamers have been posting screenshots of the area in which a giant rainbow flag flies proudly over NYC. And Jacinda Chew, Art Director of Marvel’s Spider-Man,...

Turns out a realistic Spider-Man wrapped head to toe in spandex is not a good look for the hero.
“When we first started designing his new suit … you always start with spandex and it’s not very appealing,” said Insomniac Games’ Jacinda Chew, art director for the upcoming “Marvel’s Spider-Man” PlayStation game. “We were like, ‘Wow, that’s not appealing.’ So we started thinking about what looks good in [computer graphics]. How do you give it structure and ground it with real materials?”
The result, Chew told Variety, is Spider-Man’s advanced suit, an outfit that looks like the sort of thing someone might wear to workout, get in fights and protect themselves.
“For the advanced suit, we looked at athletic wear,” Chew said. “He’s missing his knee-high red boots. If you look at his shoes they seem like sneakers. Even the fabric is formed by athletic wear. The blue is the flexibility,...

Sony’s unveiling of the first extended gameplay for Insomniac’s Spider-Man back in June saved what was an otherwise unremarkable showing for the PlayStation 4 at this year’s E3. Even taking into account that new footage for other exclusives like Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and zombie survivor Days Gone squeezed cheers out of the audience, it was Marvel’s iconic web-slinger that stole the show.
The spandex-clad superhero swinging into view was a definite highlight of not just Sony’s show, but the entirety of E3, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting more details for Peter Parker’s next video game adventure ever since. Thankfully, Insomniac has seemingly heard our prayers, as a newly released featurette gives us just that.
Spider-Man art director Jacinda Chew and creative director Bryan Intihar are on-hand in the video to talk about their experiences with creating a believable world for Parker and his superpowered alter-ego,...
