Dune 2 Stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh In Pivotal Roles (Photo Credit –Facebook)
Dune has over the cinematic world and the box office. Director Denis Villeneuve’s dystopian vision broke through the cinema thresholds back in 2021 with the film adaptation of Dune. The highly anticipated sequel Dune 2, starring Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and more is close to minting over $680 Million worldwide. And for die-hard fans of the franchise, there is good news on the block: Dune 3 is happening! Legendary Pictures announced that Denis Villeneuve will be collaborating with the production for not one but two major motion pictures. And the highly anticipated Dune: Messiah is one of them!
Based on Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune is always three movies. Considering the end of Dune 2, a third movie is pivotal to Paul Atredis’s fate and how the consequences of the sequel affect the story’s arc in general.

Dune director Denis Villeneuve is attached to Legendary Entertainment’s answer to Oppenheimer. According to Deadline, the film production company plans to team with Villeneuve for an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s non-fiction book Nuclear War: A Scenario.
Villeneuve’s level of involvement in the movie is currently unknown, but he is expected to serve as a producer, writer, and/or director with longtime partner Tanya Lapointe. Deadline describes the film as a “chilling cautionary tale about where the world might be headed in an age of political volatility at a time when too many countries have nuclear capabilities.”

Following the massive success of “Dune: Part Two,” director Denis Villeneuve may have found his next project.
The filmmaker is in discussion to reunite with Legendary for an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Pulitzer Prize finalist “Nuclear War: A Scenario,” Variety has confirmed. Legendary also confirmed that it is working with Villeneuve to develop a third “Dune” film.
Legendary optioned the feature film rights to Jacobsen’s nonfiction book; Villeneuve is currently in talks with the studio to produce, adapt and/or director. His producing partner Tanya Lapointe would also be a part of the project.
Released on March 26, Jacobsen’s book “explores a ticking-clock scenario about what would happen in the event of a nuclear war, based on dozens of exclusive new interviews with military and civilian experts who built the weapons and have been privy to the response plans and have been responsible for those decisions should they have needed to be made.

Legendary Entertainment has picked up feature rights to the latest nonfiction title from author Annie Jacobsen as a potential project for filmmaker Denis Villeneuve.
The company has optioned Nuclear War: A Scenario, which hit shelves last month and examines the nuclear military establishment. Villeneuve is in talks with Legendary to be involved in the project, which could include serving as producer, writer or director, or some combination of those roles. His longtime producing partner Tanya Lapointe would be involved as well.
Villeneuve and Legendary are currently developing a third movie in his Dune series that is based on the writings of sci-fi author Frank Herbert. Dune: Part Two, which hit theaters in March from Warner Bros., is currently the year’s highest-grossing film domestically, having surpassed $250 million.
Jacobsen was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for her 2015 book, The Pentagon’s Brain: An Uncensored History of Darpa, America’s Top-Secret Military Research Agency.

The Art and Soul of Dune: Part Two by Tanya Lapointe with Stefanie Broos (Insight Editions)
Dune: Part One, the first of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptations of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic, spawned a handful of painstakingly crafted, info-packed hardcover books. The Art and Soul of Dune: Part Two takes the same approach that made these earlier texts so satisfying. Tanya Lapointe was on set every day, and her accounts of the pre-production, production, and post-production processes are captivating. Dune: Part Two has been a phenomenon even prior to its release, with sold-out screenings, pushes for an Oscar campaign already and some questionable tie-in merchandise…But one story adds an entirely new element to not only for fans but director Denis Villeneuve, who granted a dying man’s wish to see Dune: Part Two before he passed away.
Josée Gagnon, who runs the Canada-based charity L’Avant, recounted his journey of getting in touch with Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve and producer wife Tanya Lapointe in hopes of making the screening happen, even though it was more than a month and a half before the film was due to hit theaters. They had invited him to see it in Los Angeles, but the man was too weak to travel. Instead, they sent an assistant with Villeneuve’s laptop, which contained a full version of the film. The screening happened on January 16th.

“Desert power.” That’s how Denis Villeneuve teases what’s to come at the end of 2021’s “Dune,” as Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atriedes looks out across the desert in awe as he sees a Fremen person riding a sandworm.
And Villeneuve does not disappoint. The director goes full white-knuckle thrill ride in its sequel, orchestrating a glorious sandworm riding sequence that took 44 days to shoot. It was the most complex thing Villeneuve had ever attempted to do. It needed to feel edgy, dangerous, exciting and real.
It took Villeneuve’s most-trusted collaborators to help him pull off the scene, in which Paul uses the thumper for the first time to draw a sandworm out from beneath the surface and mount the creature as Chani (Zendaya), Stilgar (Javier Bardem) and the Fremen look on.

For “Dune: Part Two,” Denis Villeneuve delved deep into the Arabian desert and spent almost a month shooting in Abu Dhabi’s Liwa Oasis, which provided a substantial portion of the landscape of the desert planet Arrakis, home to the monstrous sandworms.
Villeneuve praised the location and services provided by the Abu Dhabi Film Commission and UAE-based production services company Epic Films in a promotional behind-the-scenes video, to which Variety has been given exclusive access.
“‘Dune’ is about the relationship of humans with nature,” Villeneuve says in the promo that also features testimonials from Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson and cinematographer Greig Fraser, among others.
“It was important for me to bring that nature to the screen,” adds the director, so that the audience will believe it “if they feel that there is something that feels real, that feels tactile.”

The next chapter in the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), following the murder of his father Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) in “Dune,” is to join the Fremen tribe’s fight for survival on the remote desert planet Arrakis. In “Dune: Part Two,” Paul must learn the ways of the Fremen, who make their harsh windswept environment their home by using it as their camouflage, weapon, and, yes, transportation system.
For director Denis Villeneuve, growing up reading author Frank Herbert’s description of the Fremen riding sandworms was the coolest thing he could imagine, but when it came to adapting these scenes to the big screen, the director realized just how much of his imagination would be required to fill in the holes of Herbert’s description.
“I had to imagine how a human being could jump on a worm, because it’s very evasive in the book,” Villeneuve told IndieWire’s Toolkit podcast.

Who’s ready for a Sandworm ride? The long-awaited (and delayed) sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is getting spicy in theaters, and we want to know what you think about the film! Anticipation for Dune: Part Two has been through the roof since last year, and then the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes hit Hollywood. Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. Film Group agreed to delay the film until 2024, knowing that a robust promotional campaign for the science-fiction epic would serve the project (and the box office) well.
The delay is paying off as Dune: Part Two already took $12 million home from preview screenings. The film debuted in 4,500 locations, with Imax screenings bringing in 38% of the pot. I’ve got tickets for an 11:30 screening at my local theater tomorrow, joining the crowds already rushing to theaters to experience one of 2024’s most anticipated features. For those who may not be aware, Denis Villeneuve started his career in Quebec long before he became a big Hollywood director. One of the biggest directors ever to emerge from this Canadian province (where some of us working for JoBlo – including yours truly – live), Villeneuve started to break through internationally with his films Polytechnique and Incendies. These movies led to his American debut with Prisoners, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Taylor-Joy again made an appearance at the New York premiere on Sunday night, as writer-director Denis Villeneuve revealed why he wanted to keep her role under wraps in the first place.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was the surprise warm-up act at a prestigious film industry event in London on Wednesday night that saw Oppenheimer director — and BAFTA and Oscar front runner — Christopher Nolan receive the British Film Institute Fellowship Award for his outstanding contribution to cinema.
The premier hailed Nolan — whose credits also include the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Dunkirk — as “undoubtedly one of our preeminent filmmakers.”
However, before doing so, he delivered quips with an aplomb that had guests seated in the ballroom of London’s Rosewood Hotel in stitches.
“Politics is showbusiness for ugly people,” Sunak declared. The room liked that one, even though the line’s a golden oldie.
“So, I was pleasantly surprised,” he continued, “when I was recently mistaken for Timothée Chalamet.”
Then with a well-timed pause, he added, “At least, I think that’s why they were shouting ‘Wonka’ at me.”

Actor Josh Brolin and cinematographer Greig Fraser have documented the shooting of “Dune: Part One” and “Dune: Part Two” in a new coffee table book titled “Dune: Exposures.”
Out Feb. 13, the book is published by Insight Editions and features rare on-set moments with the cast and crew. Brolin, who plays Warmaster Gurney Halleck in the two films, shares his on-set experience through poetry.
Speaking with Variety, Brolin says every word he wrote was a reaction: to Fraser’s photography, to his experience in front of the camera or to their friendship. He says, “The writing is very different, tonally. Sometimes it’s tongue-in-cheek, sometimes it’s descriptive, sometimes it’s a dialogue and sometimes it’s a poem.”

We’re just weeks away from the March 1st theatrical release of Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune… and the whole time we’ve been gearing up to see this movie, one element of it that has been getting a lot of hype is the presence of sandworms. Cast member Javier Bardem said he wanted to ride a sandworm in the film, the actors said the production included “a main unit, a second unit, and a sandworm unit“, and there are tie-in popcorn buckets designed to look like sandworms. Now an extended sneak preview has made its way online, and it features a clip from the film where our hero Paul Atreides learns to ride a sandworm! So far, the makers have kept Florence’s character a mystery. But in a new video, we see a glimpse of Pugh’s character in action. Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, is now scheduled to be released on March 1st – but there are five more Herbert Dune novels that could serve as the basis for future films, and Villeneuve and his Dune stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya have all expressed interest in continuing the franchise. In an interview with Total Film magazine, Villeneuve said the ending of Dune: Part Two will set up the events of a third Dune film… if they get the chance to make it. He told Total Film, “All of the elements are there. But I think the movie adaptation is more tragic than the book. The way that Part Two ends… it would create a total balance and equilibrium to finish Paul’s storyline in what we could say in Part Three.“
Chalamet told Total Film, “The idea excites me very much.

We’ve got great news for Dune fans! Warner Bros says the spice will flow earlier than anticipated now that Dune: Part Two is moving up two weeks to March 1. Fresh off of being delayed until 2024, Dune: Part Two is Empire Magazine‘s new cover story. The outlet will print two gorgeous Dune Part Two Empire Magazine covers for fans to collect, featuring House Atreides and Harkonnen members. Yesterday, Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. said they would push the release of Dune: Part Two, with the film now coming to theaters on March 15, 2024.
This change in release date has caused a knock-on effect. Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire was set to be released on March 15, 2024, but will now move to April 12, 2024. That is the date that The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim was supposed to be released, which will now be pushed to December 13, 2024. The reason for the Dune: Part Two delay is said to be because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, as the studio clearly wants its stars to be able to promote the movie.

A spicy rumor about the Dune film franchise is rising from the sands of Arrakis. Industry insider Daniel Richtman said that Warner Bros had signed Timothée Chalamet for Dune 3. While this is not a confirmation of production plans for another movie in Denis Villeneuve’s presentation of Dune, it’s not the first time we’ve heard rumblings that a third film is a possibility.
Previously, Dune writer Jon Spaihts confirmed a third film could happen. “There are a few tantalizing strands that lead into the future and suggest that we might not be done in this universe, despite the fact that the ending of ‘Dune’ as a novel, which will be the ending of the second film, is a very satisfying conclusion,” Spaihts told The Playlist early last year. “There are a number of ways in which the book also sounds ominous notes, and there are hints of foreboding...

Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, has a release date of November 3rd – and in this build-up to the film’s release, we’ve previously only heard that Villeneuve wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts, who he also collaborated with on the script for Dune: Part One. (Their Part One co-writer Eric Roth decided not to work on the follow-up.) Now, The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin has revealed that he was also a “participating writer” on Dune: Part Two!
Speaking with The Playlist, Mazin said that he’s basically out of the movie business, because he’s focusing on The Last of Us and his other TV work. But “I will work with certain directors when they call because I love them and because they’re so brilliant. So if, like, Denis Villeneuve calls, then absolutely.
