Investments in artificial intelligence generative content (Aigc) remain a top priority for some companies in China, despite ongoing concerns regarding copyright and intellectual property rights.
During a seminar discussing the potential of generative AI in the entertainment industry at Hong Kong’s FilMart, Chen Jihong, an equity partner at Zhong Lun law firm, highlighted the legal challenges that have arisen since the introduction of ChatGPT in 2022. One notable case involved a recent ruling in China that recognized an AI-generated image as a copyrightable work. Chen also pointed out the differing approaches to copyright law regarding AI-generated content between China and the U.S.
However, the rapid advancements in technology have also opened up numerous opportunities for companies operating in the entertainment sector, encompassing various areas such as scriptwriting, artist performance, audio-visual effects and special effects, among others. Benefits include lower costs of production and quicker processing times

Aryna Sabalenka won the 2023 Australian Open, and she started this year on a high note as well, putting forward early candidacy to do so again.
Sabalenka had a fantastic 2023 campaign, which began in Melbourne with the Australian Open trophy. She's looking even better this year with some amazing early performances at the 2024 Brisbane International.
She played well in Abu Dhabi at the World Tennis League and looks even better in Brisbane. A dominant first win was followed up by yet another crushing win over Lin Zhu.
The match actually started with an early break for the Chinese player, which is funny because that's the only game she would win in the match.
Sabalenka broke back immediately and then added another break and then another, and it was just not a pretty sight if you are a fan of Zhu. The Belarusian just crushed her from the baseline with her raw power,...

British No. 1 Katie Boulter leads the list of nominations for the Wta Most Improved Player of the Year award alongside four other players.
This distinction is bestowed upon a player ranked inside the Top 100 and who showed substantial improvement throughout the season. Improvement in this case is attributed to form, results, and ranking. Boulter has been honored in this category thanks to her best-ever season on tour.
The 27-year-old started the season playing on the Itf circuit and ranked World No. 136. She excelled at that level winning one title from three finals. It was during the grass swing when Boulter made the whole world take notice of her talent.
She won the Wta 250 in Nottingham - her first title at the Tour level - in the historic all-British final. That result gave Boulter the blueprint to break the world's Top 50 for the first time thanks to third-round finishes at Wimbledon and the US Open.

Often a tragedy does not only cause grief for the people involved but can have lasting consequences as it leads back to past sins or buried crimes. There have been many cases of bodies that were buried between layers of concrete and that were found when an earthquake or a nearby explosion took place. The idea of a past crime that has been hidden for quite some time and also has been forgotten by many, and then was brought back to the attention of the public is the center of “The Fallen Bridge” by director Yu Li. While the filmmaker/ screenwriter still puts the focus on drama, as with her past projects, she also includes elements of thriller as well as a social commentary pointing at the corruption within Chinese society, which in the end also reflects on the family presented in the story.

Zhu and his teammates took a training session in the National Athletics Center on Friday, one day before the 2023 athletics worlds begin, reports Xinhua.
Zhu told Xinhua everything has been going well so far, and he hoped to qualify for the final through his first attempt on Saturday and save the best for the last.

“This is a great venue. The track is close to the audience and it’s easy to enjoy the atmosphere.

Montreal (Canada), Aug 8 (Ians) Former World No.1 Karolina Pliskova defeated Zhu Lin and lined up a second-round clash with reigning World No.1 Iga Swiatek on a rain-hit opening day at the Canadian Open, here.

As we have mentioned in the past, Chinese cinema has a knack of producing crime films that unfold in a distinct art house style, with titles like “Black Coal, Thin Ice”, “Mr Six”, and “Long Day's Journey into the Night” being among the first that come to mind. Cannes-favorite (all four of his movies have screened there) Wei Shujun returned in 2023 in the festival with, “Only the River Flows”, a movie that follows a similar approach.

No signs of illness for Iga Swiatek as she started her 2023 Wimbledon campaign with an emphatic victory over Lin Zhu in two sets.
Iga Swiatek is the top seed at Wimbledon and she played the first match in line with her status. The Polish player is apparently not a great player on grass but she's certainly better than a lot of other players even with the lack of experience.
There weren't any expectations for the grass season this year as she simply approached it with the desire to learn as much as possible and get better on it. Her game fits the surface well as Mats Wilander predicted her to end up with multiple Wimbledon trophies if she keeps her level of play. Her only preparation event was the Bad Homburg Open, Wta 250 tournament, where she put together a decent run .

Crime thrillers, if done well, always leave the audience with something to ponder upon. Usually showing the affairs between the good cops and the bad guys, this genre is known to flirt with lofty philosophical questions about honesty and righteousness versus survival and safety, which continue to run at the back of the mind even after the film ends. Writer-Director Andrea Di Stefano’s latest film, Last Night of Amore, only goes to show that he knows how to craft a thinking man’s crime thriller, while never missing out on the exciting elements associated with the genre.
Last Night of Amore is about an honest cop, Franco Amore, who hesitantly decides to work for a Chinese businessman as a security provider just days before his retirement. On his very last day before retiring, his unblemished career comes under attack when an assignment goes horribly wrong.

That old expectation still lingers: you’re either right-brained or left-brained. Art, or science.
Garbo Zhu, though, defies expectation. She’s always loved making things, and when she started taking art classes in high school, she realized she loved 3D design. But she also loved physics. So she combined them, and went into architecture.
She probably would’ve kept working in the field, if not for the pandemic. Like millions of other people, she was shut at home when Covid kicked in. San Francisco, May 13 (Ians) US-based autonomous delivery robot startup Nuro has announced that it will be laying off 30 per cent of its workforce, or about 340 employees, as part of a restructuring intended to extend its capital runway.
Last week, Nuro co-founders Dave Ferguson and Jiajun Zhu announced that the company would reduce staff and shift resources away from commercial operations and toward R&d, reports TechCrunch.
This year, Nuro will pause its plans to ramp up commercial operations and delay volume production of its third-generation delivery robot, the R3.
According to Ferguson and Zhu, the company will be able to operate twice as long by making these changes, giving it enough capital to operate for another three years without raising more money.
“While in the past we developed autonomy systems, designed and built custom vehicles, and deployed commercial pilots with partners in parallel, we will now pursue a more sequential development model,...

Beijing, April 15 (Ians) People experiencing hearing loss who are not using a hearing aid may have a higher risk of dementia than those without hearing loss, suggests a new study published in The Lancet Public Health journal.
However, using a hearing aid may reduce this risk to the same level as that of people without hearing loss.
Dementia and hearing loss are common conditions among older adults. Studies have shown that hearing loss may be linked to around 8 per cent of worldwide dementia cases, therefore, addressing hearing impairment could be a crucial way to reduce the global burden of dementia.
“The evidence is building that hearing loss may be the most impactful modifiable risk factor for dementia in midlife, but the effectiveness of hearing aid use on reducing the risk of dementia in the real world has remained unclear. Our study provides the best evidence to date to suggest that...

Melbourne, Jan 23 (Ians) For Chinese tennis player Zhu Lin, who made her Grand Slam debut in the 2014 U.S. Open, the second-round spell had been haunting her for years until this year’s Australian Open.
On Sunday evening, Zhu walked onto the centre court of the Rod Laver Arena — the largest venue in Melbourne Park with a capacity of 15,000 seats — for a fourth-round clash against former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka.
After crashing out of the qualifying campaign 15 times, exiting seven times in the opening round and reaching the round of 64 four times, the 28-year-old Zhu eventually had her first-ever Final 16 moment at a Grand Slam event.
Zhu entered the match as an unseeded underdog with a moderate ranking, compared to her famed Belarusian opponent. But she challenged Azarenka by firing winners unstoppably and scoring points from long rallies.

Auckland, Jan 5 (Ians) No.1 seed Coco Gauff defeated 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals of the Asb Classic, here on Thursday.
After lengthy rain delays eventually forced the entirety of this match indoors and it was World No.7 Gauff who prevailed in 1 hour and 23 minutes to reach her first Auckland quarterfinal in her second appearance at the tournament.
Gauff built a 4-1 lead in the opening set, but the 2022 Roland Garros finalist failed to serve out the set at 5-3, allowing Kenin back on serve. However, Gauff quickly reclaimed her advantage, breaking her opponent for the one-set lead after a Kenin forehand flew long on set point.
In the second set, there were no service breaks through 5-4. In that game, though, Kenin failed to convert three game points, and Gauff earned a match point by forcing an error with her strong backhand. Gauff converted...

A Chinese court has rejected an appeal by a young woman who alleged sexual harassment against a popular male TV host in what has been referred to as a landmark case. Foreign media outfits reporting locally have called the decision a blow to China’s #MeToo movement.
In 2018, Zhou Xiaoxuan accused CCTV host Zhu Jun of making unwanted advances, including kissing and groping her, while she was an intern at the broadcaster in 2014. Last September, a Beijing court dismissed Zhou’s claims saying the now-29-year-old had not presented sufficient evidence. The appeal was rejected yesterday on similar grounds.
Zhou previously said the judge in the case had refused her requests to retrieve evidence, including security camera footage from outside the dressing room where the incident allegedly took place.
Speaking to supporters after the verdict, Zhou said, “Four years have passed, and the most important thing is that we have...
