Helldivers 2 has found itself at the center of yet another controversy. If weapons nerfs and gameplay changes weren’t enough for gamers to be upset about, then the latest change coming to the game certainly could be.
In a recent update from Arrowhead Game Studios, it was revealed that players on PC will need to link their Steam accounts with a PlayStation account if they wish to continue playing the game. This has upset many people.
Helldivers 2 Makes Another Change and Fans Are Not Happy
Upset players are review-bombing Helldivers 2 on steam.
The change seemingly comes directly from Sony, which has requested it as part of its efforts to quell security threats to its users. This makes sense as Sony is no stranger to hacks and data leaks; we all remember the infamous Sony hack way back in 2014. Many Steam users feel blindsided by this change, which has been the...

The year 2024 saw the release of some highly anticipated titles, Ff 7 Rebirth being one of them. Being a PS5 exclusive, it was an improvement over its predecessor. The game received critical acclaim at launch. Many lauded the combat and the enemy variety in the game, which made it exciting.
A still from Ff 7 Rebirth
It was a PS5 exclusive and was released on February 29. The game’s story begins after the events of the Ff 7 Remake. It also came with a better open-world environment compared to its predecessor. While the game was liked by the critics, it also had a great commercial run during its launch.
Ff 7 Rebirth sales reports revealed
While Ff 7 Rebirth had a great run at launch, the game seems to have fallen behind now. New reports state that Ff 7 Rebirth which came out in February has reported sold only half of what Ff 7 Remake did in the same timeframe.

PlayStation saw the end of an era as Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan retired from the company on March 29. Ryan worked for the company for over three decades and was promoted to the position of CEO in 2019. However, one statement from Ryan before his retirement has sparked some controversy. Ryan claimed that PlayStation2 sold a staggering 160 million units worldwide, presenting an updated figure from the earlier reported 155 million units.

With or without Jim Ryan’s updated figure, PlayStation 2 continues to be the best-selling gaming console. It is followed by the Nintendo DS with 154.02 million units sold and the Nintendo Switch at 139.36 million units sold. Among the three, only the Switch still remains in production.

In a shocking move, PlayStation has announced that they have decided to raise the retail price of the PlayStation 5 in select regions.
“The global economic environment is a challenge that many of you around the world are no doubt experiencing,” says Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, via a recent PlayStation Blog post. “We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries. Based on these challenging economic conditions, Sie has made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price (Rrp) of PlayStation 5 in select markets across Europe, Middle East, and Africa (Emea), Asia-Pacific (Apac), Latin America (Latam), as well as Canada. There will be no price increase in the United States.”

In most countries, Xbox and PlayStation consoles have been rivals for almost two decades, but in Japan, the Xbox has barely left a mark. However, that dynamic recently changed in a small, yet fascinating way that could prove to be an interesting harbinger for Xbox’s immediate future in Japan.
Earlier today, the Japanese business development manager of Limited Run Games, Alex Aniel, posted a link to Famitsu’s latest weekly sales roundup. Much of the article provided expected bits of software sales news, such as Nintendo Switch Sports topping the charts two weeks in a row, but the article’s hardware report revealed something quite fascinating: Xbox has finally outsold PlayStation in Japan. Well, sort of.
According to Famitsu’s numbers, last week, Japanese retailers sold 2,240 PlayStation 5 and 453 PS5 Digital units, while Microsoft pushed 105 Xbox Series X consoles and a whopping 6,120 Xbox Series S units. When it comes to cumulative sales in Japan,...

As the average price of a modern Aaa game goes from 60 to 70, gamers and industry figures everywhere start to wonder if anything can be done to lower the costs of inflating modern development budgets and help reduce prices in the process. Of course, if you think the prices of major modern games are getting a bit ridiculous, you should really check out what’s happening with retro games.
You may have heard the recent news about an unopened copy of Sonic the Hedgehog that sold for over 400,000 (and how even Sonic creator Yuji Naka thought it was a scam). Believe it or not, that sale was actually on the lower end of high-value retro game deals, as shortly before that sale occurred, a sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. sold for an insane 2 million.
Given such ludicrous prices, one can’t help but wonder what is happening in the retro gaming market.

Not everyone has the means to own multiple gaming platforms at once (which is honestly the leading contributor to the sales race commonly known as the “console wars“), so most of us end up having to make a pretty difficult choice between our next-gen console options. While the powerful PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are obviously the flagship next-gen devices at the moment, Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is quickly proving to be the company’s secret sales weapon.
A new report by GamesIndustry.biz shows that Nintendo Switch remains the most popular console in Europe, while the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X lag noticeably behind. However, that report also reveals that the Xbox Series X/S product line recently outsold the PS5 in Europe for the first time since those next-gen consoles were released. It’s not exactly a secret that Grand Theft Auto is one of the best-selling video game franchises ever, but publisher Take-Two Interactive’s latest reports regarding the series’ lifetime sales figures confirm that it is in some truly elite company.
According to those reports, Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 150 million units to date. While that’s an impressive enough figure in its own right, what may be even more impressive is the fact that the lifetime sales figures of the GTA franchise just crossed the 350 million units mark.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V has surpassed 150 million units sold in.

WB Games recently confirmed that Mortal Kombat 11 has sold over 12 million copies worldwide so far. That means that the Mortal Kombat franchise has sold more than 73 million games to date, which, as some analysts have already pointed out, also means that it now appears to be the best-selling fighting game franchise ever.
For reference:
Mortal Kombat – 73 million units
Smash Bros. – 65.1 million units

While most eyes are fixed on the GameStop stock situation, an equally interesting video game finance story happened today when Nintendo released their latest financial reports.
There’s quite a lot to break down from those reports, but if you’re looking for the headline or biggest takeaway, then here it is:
The Nintendo Switch has sold in 79.87m units after 46 months on the market.
Here is how it compares to other consoles when launch aligned.

Paul W.S. Anderson’s latest video game adaptation, Monster Hunter, is one of just two major releases set to hit the big screen before the end of the year, arriving on Christmas Day alongside Wonder Woman 1984. However, with the Chinese box office rebounding a lot quicker than every other international territory, it was given an early premiere in the country on Thursday.
In bad news for the studio, though, Monster Hunter lasted just 24 hours before being pulled after audiences interpreted a terrible line of dialogue in the script as a racist slur. Obviously, this is a huge blow for the movie’s chances of turning a profit at a time when business is on its knees, based on both the renewed strength of the marketplace and the fact that effects-heavy fantasy blockbusters always tend to play well in China, with Warcraft and Pacific Rim two of the more notable titles...

It’s time at last: the PlayStation 5 is now out in the wild, which means that fans will soon be able to get their true first look at Sony’s next-gen console in action. Media outlets and influencers have started receiving the PS5 for review and already posting pictures of the console’s retail box as well as the packaging for many of the accessories. One YouTuber has even unboxed the new DualSense controller, opened the controller up, and even tried it out…with Microsoft’s xCloud gaming service.
While the PS5’s official launch is still a few weeks away, we’ve compiled what outlets and influencers are saying about the console so far. We should note that most of these early posts pertain specifically to the packaging and what PS5 hardware these outlets are going to be able to try and show off in more detail at a later date.

Over the years, Electronic Arts has been criticized for the lack of updates to its fabled FIFA career mode. The popular mode, which allows gamers to take control of their favorite club by creating either a manager or player from scratch to don their favorite club’s crest, has generally fallen short of the real thing.
Fortunately, FIFA 21 is changing that narrative. EA has taken its biggest steps ever to improve the popular mode in this year’s installment, giving fans some of the features they’ve long asked for.
One of the biggest additions to FIFA 21’s career mode is the ability to take more control of your squad’s progress over the course of a manager career. EA has long restricted just how much you could increase the ratings of your players through training sessions. Previously capped at five squad training sessions per week, players can now fully customize the training schedule in-season,...

Players are reporting that Genshin Impact (one of 2020’s biggest surprise hits and a runaway financial success) censors any attempt to use the words “Taiwan” and “Hong Kong” in the game’s chat text system.
The full list of words and phrases that are censored in the game hasn’t been revealed/discovered quite yet, but “Taiwan,” “Hong Kong,” and “Tibet” are among the most notable early examples. Interestingly, other users are reporting that seemingly simple words such as “enemies” are turned into asterisks whenever you try to type them in chat. That could indicate that the game’s censorship system is being unintentionally aggressive at the moment.
Still, based on what we currently know, it seems likely that some of these terms are meant to be censored. As Niko Partner analyst and industry insider Daniel Ahmad explains on Twitter, Genshin Impact was developed by a Chinese game studio and...

PlayStation 5 pre-orders kicked off earlier than planned yesterday, catching many fans by surprise and sending them scrambling to Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, and other retailers to try and secure a next-gen Sony console. Digital storefronts went down, some customers were unable to check out, and others couldn’t even put a PS5 in their carts. Most retailers sold out of PS5s within minutes. In short, it was pandemonium.
That said, if you didn’t have a chance to secure yourself a PS5 this week, Sony says you shouldn’t worry about console shortages at launch. In an interview with The Washington Post, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has assured fans that “Sony will have more PlayStation 5 units ready for sale than they had PlayStation 4 units in 2013.”
The PS4 sold about 2.1 million units worldwide in its first two weeks, with 1 million of those units sold on launch day, according to WaPo.

A report by Bloomberg suggests that Sony has lowered its PlayStation 5 production estimates for the upcoming fiscal year by as much as 4 million units.
It seems that the problem simply comes down to manufacturing issues. Specifically, the report cites production shortages for the PlayStation 5’s “custom-designed system-on-chip.” The report suggests that Sony attempted to boost production and hardware acquisition earlier in 2020 when they anticipated the logistical issues caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, but the company has just not been able to meet even their reduced targets.
The report also notes that Sony currently intends to produce about 11 million PlayStation 5 by the end of the fiscal year. Again, we have to assume that all of this information is accurate, but if that is the case, then that would likely mean that there will be about 11 million PlayStation 5s available when the console launches later this year. A report by Video Game Chronicle suggests that the Xbox Series X will launch ahead of the PlayStation 5 in November.
The report, which cites “development and retail sources,” notes that Sony has booked a significant amount of marketing spending that is scheduled to start on Nov. 13. The current expectation is that the PS5 will launch sometime within a week of that date.
As for the Xbox Series X, the report notes that the same sources expect Microsoft to attempt to beat the PS5 to market by releasing its next-gen Xbox consoles, during the first week of November. But the report also suggests that the launch of the next-gen Xbox could be pushed to the second week of November. Regardless, the idea would be to beat the PS5 to the market and avoid launching near or on Black Friday weekend.
November is certainly an enticing month for both companies to drop their next-gen consoles.

Wildly succesfull battle royale party game Fall Guys is finally being ported to mobile devices, but (at least for the moment) will only be available in China.
This news comes from industry reporter Daniel Ahmad who stated that Bilibili (a China-based game and entertainment company) has acquired the rights to publish a mobile version of Fall Guys in China. A Google translation of the Bilibili website reveals that they describe themselves as the “exclusive agent” of a mobile adaptation of Fall Guys called Jelly Bean: Ultimate Knockout.
The name may set off your scam alarms, but the Chinese versions of Fall Guys available for PC and PS4 utilize a similar naming convention. While outlets have reached out to Fall Guys developer Mediatonic for confirmation regarding the authenticity of this upcoming port, but they do not seem to have released an official statement regarding this matter as of the time of this writing.

If you ever needed a clearer indication that microtransactions and Dlc are big business, one need look no further than PlayStation‘s latest revenue figures.
Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad recently shared a breakdown of Sony’s Game & Network net sales between April and June of this year and, needless to say, the results are staggering. Throughout the period, Add-on content – which accounts for any additional item purchased for a game outside of the initial retail price – was responsible for 24% of total revenue, raking in an eye-watering $2.29 billion. To put that figure into perspective, packaged software (i.e. games) accounted for just 6% of the overall total and $0.35 billion.

A great many things in life are essential, but video games certainly aren’t one of them. Not even close.
With the Coronavirus pandemic showing no signs of coming to an end anytime soon, governments around the world are following suit in locking down all non-essential businesses, with only the likes of supermarkets and pharmacies remaining open for, well, obvious reasons. Us chain GameStop, however, believes it has every right to remain open during the outbreak, with the retailer considering itself an “essential” service.
In a memo distributed to stores, the company is requiring that managers present documents to police informing them of GameStop’s decision to remain open as a means of providing necessary entertainment for folks who are currently working from home. In an effort to reassure visitors that it’s taking the proper steps to ensure the safety of staff and customers alike, the following notice has been released.

The next mainline entry in Capcom’s flagship survival horror series could be announced as early as next month, a new leak has claimed.
Now, before we get into the meat of this particular bout of hearsay, it’s worth noting that the original source, a 4Chan post, has since been removed. A transcript of the post, however, was promptly jotted down by Reddit user Ajxtt and claims that Sony will host a special event at the beginning of February. This unconfirmed conference will serve as the platform to reveal PlayStation 5 and, beyond that, a number of currently unannounced games.
Among sequels to the likes of Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn and Crash Bandicoot, Capcom is said to be putting its own weight behind the publisher in the form of a new Resident Evil title. No reference to Resident Evil 8 specifically is made, though it’s the most logical conclusion to reach,...

Though Geoff Keighley recently confirmed that the Resident Evil 3 remake won’t be making an appearance at The Game Awards on December 13th, it still looks likely that an official announcement for the long-awaited title is just around the corner. In fact, according to two industry insiders, it sounds like the much anticipated survival-horror title will be showing up two days earlier at PlayStation’s State Of Play event this Tuesday, December 10th.
While nothing is officially confirmed as of yet, both sources do corroborate the aforementioned event to be the official reveal date from Capcom. Firstly, Sabi, one of the gaming industry’s most well-known leakers has noted that the game will be “a major reveal” at the presentation as opposed to “the major reveal,” which may suggest that it won’t be the only big game at the PlayStation’s State Of Play event.

And just like that, fading hopes of a Resident Evil 3 remake announcement have been reignited. Earlier today, The Game Awards presenter Geoff Keighley confirmed that the leaked title won’t be making an appearance at the show on December 13th. A crushingly disappointing confirmation, then, but now, it appears as if the true host to Capcom’s next big project has been revealed.
Sony has just confirmed that it’s set to hold one final State of Play on December 10th, intended to give PlayStation 4 owners a taste of what’s to come over the next 12 months and beyond. With a running time of around 20-plus minutes, the platform holder will undoubtedly take the opportunity to talk more of its upcoming first-party titles such as The Last of Us: Part II and Ghosts of Tsushima, but what else?

Resident Evil 3‘s long-awaited remake is real, that much we know, but when is Capcom likely to make an official announcement?
Thanks to a number of previous rumors and educated guesses, the inevitable reveal is presumed to take place on December 13th. That date is when this year’s Game Awards ceremony is due to kick-off and, as one of the few remaining industry events of 2019, fans are expecting host Geoff Keighley to walk out on-stage next week to break the news. Short of the event’s organizers coming out to discredit such suspicions, then, the possibility of a Vga appearance is still very much a possibility.
With that said, however, it now appears that Capcom could be intending to showcase Resident Evil 3 even sooner. At least, that’s the takeaway from recent teases supplied by prominent industry insider Daniel Ahmad over on Twitter.

No secrets stay that way for long on the internet, especially when they concern perhaps one of the most long-awaited video games in recent memory.
Diablo 4, the rumored sequel to Blizzard’s long-running dungeon crawler, is now all but confirmed to be getting an official reveal at this year’s annual BlizzCon convention. While fans have known for some time that the developer has been tinkering away on the title behind closed doors, it appears that the studio is finally ready to share the fruits of its labor. Following the discovery of a magazine ad for an art book that unknowingly name-dropped Diablo 4‘s existence, other industry insiders have now come forward to share what they know of the project.

You may soon be able to ask your PlayStation for health, directions, and so much more.
It looks like Sony and the PlayStation team are developing a voice assistant program.
Noted industry analyst Daniel Ahmad posted paperwork on Twitter that seemingly reveals Sony has filed a patent for a new kind (or at least new for them) of voice assistant program called PlayStation Assist. It appears that the primary purpose of PlayStation Assist is to allow gamers to ask for in-game help. The patent's text gives an example of this technology in action by suggesting that you can ask the program for help finding in-game health packs and PlayStation Assist will respond by highlighting all nearby health packs on the game's map.
You may remember that Google advertised something similar for Stadia, but it turns out that PlayStation Assist is a little more than just a voice-activated walkthrough.

Will the PS4 manage to outsell the PS2 before the PS5 comes around?
The PlayStation 4 has sold more than 100 million units, Sony has revealed, but the company's current-gen console still hasn't quite managed to overtake the PS2 to become the highest-selling console of all time.
Sony revealed this landmark-crossing sales statistic during a big snazzy presentation on its financials, with the official paperwork from the event offering this wordy summary: "3.2 million units were sold during the current quarter, essentially unchanged year-on-year, and we reached 100 million cumulative units on a shipment basis."
Shipping 100 million PS4 consoles is obviously a massive achievement for Sony, especially considering that the PS5 is actively in development. Also, the PS4 was quite expensive when it first launched. And as we reach the end of its lifespan, Sony execs are already starting to suggest that we're living in a "post-console world." None of this...

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and while Fortnite has borrowed a number of gameplay elements from the so-hot-right-now Apex Legends (see: the ping system), the latter shooter is really beginning to stake its claim for the pixelated throne. And fast.
Figures published over on Twitter have revealed that Apex Legends‘ growth rate is currently four times faster than that of Fortnite. After only 8 hours, the Respawn title pulled in a staggering 1 million players, and those numbers have been on the rise ever since – so much so, in fact, that Apex was at 50 million strong by four weeks. To put that astronomical growth into perspective, it took Fortnite a full 16 weeks to hit 45 million, which only goes to show just how competitive and frantic the Battle Royale genre has become.

Some of Sony's biggest developers are reportedly already focusing on PlayStation 5.
A new report suggests that Sony has already begun shifting its first-party focus towards the PlayStation 5. This information comes from an industry analyst/insider named Daniel Ahmad who took to ResetEra to report that "most of the focus for Sony [first party studios] is on PS5 right now."
While Ahmad states that this transitional period is in the very early stages, the general buzz coming from Gdc was that first-party developers have begun preliminary work on future PS5 titles.
According to Ahmad, this also means that the first PS5 development kits are out in the wild. It had previously been suggested that is the case, but Ahmad goes so far as to say that he's "heard positive things" about the kits from those who already have their hands on them.
What's maybe even more interesting is Ahmad's claim...
