A.D.: After Death, the acclaimed book from Image Comics, is getting a movie adaptation.
Scott Snyder (Wytches, Batman) and Jeff Lemire (Plutona, Extraordinary X-Men)'s Image Comics series A.D. After Death has been optioned as a movie by Sony Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The book, which jumps back and forth between illustrated prose sections and a traditional paneled comic book, with some stunning watercolor art from Lemire, follows Jonah Cooke 825 years after the cure for death was found. The series combines anxiety about real problems, like a family member's illness or money troubles, with an eerie seemingly post-apocalyptic setting that is a hallmark of Snyder's writing (if you haven't checked out Wytches or Voodoo Heart, Snyder's collection of short stories, treat yourself this Christmas).
A.D. also represents Lemire's first return to regular art chores in some time: he began his career...

Over the past few years, I’ve watched my weekly comic book purchases change in some very telling ways. As my subscriptions to Marvel and DC books declined, I found myself reading more creator-owened series and the current king of that landscape is Image Comics. Which means I’ve been reading a ton of stuff with Image’s name on […]

Jesse Wigutow has been tapped to pen the film adaptation of Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen's sci-fi comic "Descender" at Sony Pictures.
A space opera, the story is set in a time where anything android, robotic or with artificial intelligence is hunted down by bounty hunters and destroyed.
On a distant mining colony, one self-aware and extremely lifelike robot called Tim-21 becomes the target of a galaxy-wide pursuit when it's believed he may hold the key to the destruction of the galaxy.
Tim-21 joins a rag-tag group running from one exotic planet to the next. Lemire and Josh Bratman will produce the film.
Wigutow has become a much in demand scribe whose work really hasn't hit screens yet. In recent times he re-wrote the currently in production "Bad Santa 2," just finished adapting Brian Michael Bendis' graphic novel "Fire," and previously did script work on the proposed "Tron: Legacy" sequel,...

Sony Pictures has tapped Tron 3 scribe Jesse Wigutow to adapt acclaimed comic book series, Descender.
That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, noting that after first acquiring the property almost exactly a year ago, the big-screen rendition of Jeff Lemire’s sci-fi tale is finally beginning to gain a sense of momentum. Indeed, Wigutow will be hoping for better luck with this current deal, given that he penned treatments for Relativity’s long-gestating The Crow remake along with Brian Michael Bendis’ Fire, neither of which have entered production in earnest.
Descender very much acts as a new platform for the scribe, then, and the original source material imagines a “sprawling, science-fiction space opera full of mystery and adventure. For those unfamiliar, Descender tells the heart-felt cosmic odyssey about “a little boy looking for home in a universe that hates and fears him. The incredibly lifelike artificial boy, Tim-21, may...

Descender #7 Cover
The companion robot Tim-21, his creator Dr. Quon, and the rest of the supporting cast for writer Jeff Lemire and artist Dustin Nguyen’s Descender will return on Nov. 11 with issue #7.
“The reception to the book has been overwhelming, and it fuels us to keep pushing ourselves to live up to the promise of arc one and even surpass it,” said Lemire via email interview
Descender began in March of this year and came out monthly until August, at which point the series took a break in between story arcs. In the first issue of the series, a group of robots later referred to as The Harvesters attacked the major worlds of a futuristic science-fiction universe, which led to widespread hate of robot-kind.
After a series of killings of robots by those consumed with hate, the government is excited to find Tim-21, who is not just a robot who hasn’t been killed,...

Descender #2
Written by Jeff Lemire
Art by Dustin Nguyen
Published by Image Comics
The first issue of Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen’s Descender left a lot to be desired. Most jarringly was the similarity it bore to Lemire’s previous Sweet Tooth series, both books feature central characters that are a jaded man fallen from grace and a young naive boy whose very existence is a social taboo in the midst of a quasi-apocalyptic setting. That’s more than enough reason to raise a little concern, but fortunately this latest issue dismisses with them, telling a moving in-the-moment story despite some hang-ups from some of Lemire’s writing tropes.
The story follows Tim-21, a child-like android built to function as a friend/sibling to young children. Unknown to him, he’s slept through a ten year long conflict between robots and the sentient peoples across space, and happens to...

Jason Voorhees, the living dead of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, the librarian phantom from Ghostbusters, the reanimated dead of Cemetery Man—these memorable horror movie characters and many more came to life onscreen due in large part to the talented hands and crafty eyes of FX legends Tom Savini, Steve Johnson, and Sergio Stivaletti.
Tate Steinsiek, an FX artist who also has an impressive résumé, teaches Ill Willed FX Workshops around the world, and on his international tour this summer, he's bringing in the aforementioned talented trio to offer their priceless advice in select sessions, with Savini joining the Amsterdam series, Johnson coming in for the Dublin series, and Stivaletti set for the Rome series. Also included in our latest round-up are details for Dark Horse's Plants vs. Zombies: Bully for You #1, the first issue in a new comic miniseries debuting in June, as well as...

Does length matter? (In a game, that is)
Okay, stop sniggering. We’re better than that. I was, of course, referring to the recent brouhaha surrounding PS4 exclusive The Order: 1886 and its relatively short running time. For the uninitiated, mere days before the game launched to collective sighs around the globe, rumours hit the web that the game could be completed in as little as five hours. Gaming sites melted down, Internet arguments kicked off; it was, for lack of a better term, just another molehill turned mountain within the gaming industry… read the full article.

Descender #1
Writer – Jeff Lemire
Artist – Dustin Nguyen
Letterer and Designer – Steve Wands
Publisher – Image Comics
Jeff Lemire has already proven his worth in the sci-fi comic book genre with last year’s excellent Trillium. Descender appears to be something quite different from the last mini series he produced and is now collaborating with Dustin Nguyen, whose beautiful artwork is already strongly evident in this first issue. With Lemire and Nguyen onboard this very intriguing book, it looks like this will be a great addition to the already stellar lineup of Image released series.
Before this first issue even dropped, there was a lot of hype around Descender. The series was barely even officially announced when Sony Pictures sealed a film deal. Well, it is safe to say, upon reading the first issue, there is a lot of potential for Descender to face the hype head on and warm critics and readers alike.
