Jamie-Lee Parker(I)
- Actress
- Writer
- Producer
Jamie-Lee was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire. From a young age you would find her devising plays with her friends, putting on shows in the back garden, writing songs and performing them for her family, entertaining everyone with her variety of accents and uncanny impressions. Acting has always been on the cards for her. It's her passion, her dream, her therapy.
Starting out in the industry completely blind, Jamie-lee worked hard and auditioned for every role she could find. At 23 she fell pregnant and made a decision to put her all into being the best mum she could be, after all, acting can wait! In 2013, the day her son was born, she looked at him and realized that she needed to pursue her dream, for herself and for him. She said "how can I push him when he's older to follow his dreams / goals if I don't lead by example". A year after he was born she auditioned for her first professional production 'Educating Bitchfield' created by Lee Otway. She got the role of 'Beckie' which gave her the boost of confidence she needed. From then she did her HND in performing arts, followed by various adult acting classes up North. Though her confidence and talent was growing, in 2017 she found herself spiraling into a rough patch. The work was barely there, the sets she was working on were unprofessional, she'd been harassed by a director until the point she almost quit acting. One day she decided instead of giving up, she would take a break and channel all the negative into something positive by writing all the terrible and amazing things that she'd experienced within the industry and put them into a comedy script. 'No Filter' was born. 5 years later she's now finished season 1 with no budget, all funds are from her own and her partner on the series, Kevin J McDonaghs back pocket.
Over the years she has fallen in love with producing, in August this year she applied for Channel 4's FilmMaker25 mentor-ship program and to her joy, she was accepted. She has a fantastic mentor, who is an experienced and well established producer In the industry. In October 2022 she took part in a '48 hour film challenge' where she had to create a horror short with a selected theme and hand it in within 48 hours. Not only did her and the team do a fantastic job, it's also been accepted by the Birmingham Film Festival.
"Being an actor up North is hard, it feels like you have to travel down to London for any opportunities. I want to create something that can give myself and my actor friends the credentials they need for Spotlight, so that they may further their career. People need to see the amount of talent we have here in Yorkshire!"
