- Andrey V. Istratov is a Russian filmmaker and was born on October 20, 1965 in the city of Novisibirsk, in the USSR. His father Valery Istratov is a professor of medicine. Mother Elena Istratova is a chemist. In 1985-87, Andrei served in the Soviet army as a sapper. While serving in the army, Andrey made his first film on the 8-mm "Boys want to serve in the army". The theme of the film is non-statutory relations between the soldiers. - Andrey studied at the VGIK Film Institute (Moscow, Russia), workshop of directing of M. Khutsiev. Specialty: director of narrative films. After the institute, in the 1990s, during a difficult times for Russia, Andrey had to work on different jobs for a long time, sometimes shooting musical and advertising clips. In 1990 together with his first wife Kira Istratova, Andrey Istratov organized the film festival of Andrei Tarkovsky, in the native land of the director, in the city of Yuryevets, Ivanovo Oblast. In the same year Istratov Andrey was one of the founders of Andrei Tarkovsky Museum (Tarkovsky Street, 8, Yuryevets, Ivanovo Oblast). In 2003, the national Culture channel commissioned Andrei Istratov to create a 14-episode documentary film titled Medals of the Bygone Country ("Ordena ushedshey strany") about the rich history of the Soviet era awards.
