Sasha-Gay Lewis is an award-winning Jamaican documentary director, producer, and writer based in Los Angeles. With over 15 years of experience in communications, advertising, scripted and unscripted productions, Sasha has written, produced, and directed content for clients such as Red Stripe, The European Union, Columbus Communications, Burger King, Scotia Bank, Mathis Productions, Black Bald Films, MTV, Bird Bush Bungalow Films, Vox Media and Youtube .
Her short film The Incursion won several awards including Best Short Film at the Los Angeles Film & Script Festival 2017, Honorable Mention at DOC LA 2017, an Award of Recognition from Impact Docs 2017, Best Documentary at the Caribbean Tales Film Festival 2018, and was an official selection at the prestigious 2018 Pan African Film Festival. In 2019, The Incursion was selected to launch a Jamaican showcase at the International Film Week in Wurzburg, Germany, the 1st such showcase in the festival's 45 year history. Sasha is also an award winning radio producer/writer and a trained journalist.
Her other films include: Surviving Suicide - the inspiring story of three-time attempt suicide survivor Anthony Rodriquez; and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) I Look Up selected films The People's Vision and Homeward Bound.
Sasha was also a producer on the KCET distributed doc series Where Cultures Collide, a production manager on the Gemini Award-nominated doc series Life's Rituals, a producer on MTV's 16 & Pregnant S6, and a producer on the Youtube Originals Emmy nominated series Glad You Asked. Her work has been featured in sources such as Deadline, Medium, KTLA, ByBlacks, and Jamaica Gleaner, among others. She is a current fellow of the Firelight Media Documentary Lab 19' - 21, and a 2020 Mountainfilm Emerging Filmmaker Fellowship Finalist.
Sasha holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Media and Communications from the University of the West Indies, and a Masters of Fine Arts in Documentary Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy.
