Exclusive: Scandal alumna Katie Lowes is returning to network television and switching to half-hour comedy as a lead opposite Pete Holmes in CBS’ untitled Tom Smallwood multi-camera comedy pilot, from CBS Studios.
Written by Mark Gross, the project is based on professional bowler Tom Smallwood’s life. In it, after being laid off from the assembly line at the Gm factory, a seemingly ordinary man, Tom (Holmes), makes the extraordinary decision to provide for his family by following his dream of becoming a professional bowler.
Lowes will play Jen, Tom’s warm and caring wife and son Graham’s loving mother. When she’s not working at the hair salon, her supportive “family first” approach will ensure things stay the course as Tom pursues his dream.
In addition to Holmes, Lowes joins previously cast Chi McBride. Gross executive produces with David Hollander and Brian D’Arcy James.

Here is a wrap up of all the news you need to know from Thursday, May 7, 2020.
NBC's The Blacklist has a new series regular for Season 8.
The hit drama has promoted Laura Sohn, who recurs as FBI Agent Alina Park.
TV Line first reported the news.
Sohn arrived on The Blacklist Season 7 Episode 7, and took over the job left by the exit of Mozhan Marno's Samar.
Alina quickly became a fan-favorite, and we're sure she will continue to make a big impact on Season 8.
The series was forced to shut down due to the Coronavirus pandemic, with multiple episodes unproduced.
In order to bring the season to a close, the episode will feature a mix of live-action and animated scenes.
Yes, really.
It will certainly make for a different kind of finale.
Meanwhile, Apple TV+ drama Defending Jacob is set to introduce a key recurring player this week in J.K. Simmons.

Netflix has opened up vast new possibilities for Shondaland, a panel comprised of company executives and creative collaborators agreed Sunday, but the DNA that informed Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal remains intact.
“The underlying principles of what made the Shondaland recipe in the ABC version are going to be alive and well,” said Alison Eakle, head of fiction and non-fiction content for the company led by Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers. “The idea of female characters who are distinctive and messy and complicated and awesome and all of these things. We are going to continue to represent that and will continue to represent stories that never get told.”
At the same time, moving from Disney to Netflix with a deal worth a reported $150 million plus incentives means “we’re getting to expand what we do,” Eakle said. “Shonda and Betsy are always pushing boundaries. … That door continues to open.” She...

You think you’re pretty clever, don’t you, Josh Malina? Well, the jokes on you for the very first time, thanks to an elaborate hoax the cast of “Scandal” threw their notorious prankster co-star into — thanks to a little help from Jimmy Kimmel.
When the Shondaland show’s cast appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” following the series finale on Thursday, the host rolled tape of the revenge he helped Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and Associates pull off on the actor, who plays David Rosen — and is known for being more than a bit of a troublemaker on set.
Kimmel set up Malina to think he and co-star Katie Lowes (who plays Quinn Perkins) were going to surprise a family watching “Scandal,” but little did he know they were actually actors. And he was about to give an elderly woman a “heart attack” by popping a very loud canister of confetti.

The resulting scene is both horrifying and hilarious — as we know that Nana will be Ok, but Malina didn’t. He bends down by her side as they and says, “It was supposed to be a nice surprise, not a horrible surprise!” and wonders why no one told them about her heart condition.
Then, Kimmel comes in with Guillermo Rodriguez and Malina knows what’s up. “That’s the worst thing that anyone has ever done to me! That is the worst that anyone has ever done to anybody!” he says.
Well, thinking he may have killed someone is hopefully enough retribution for all the ways he’s messed with his castmates over the years. Maybe.

“Scandal” is known for being … scandalous (duh), but the show wouldn’t have its notoriety for being so without its shady characters. So we’ve got the definitive ranking of how shady all the main characters of “Scandal” really are.
Eli Pope
Poppa Pope Is Shady Af!!!
There’s really nothing we can say that will exemplify how shady Eli Pope is. Combine all the manipulative characters into one and you’d probably get a third of how truly twisted Daddy Pope is.
Other than being the head of B613 for over 20 years (as if that doesn’t mess you up for life enough), he’s just a very mean person.
Cyrus Beene
If it wasn’t for Olivia’s dad taking the cake, Cyrus would probably be right up there as the shadiest character.
As innocent as he looks, there’s honestly very little we can trust about him. Cyrus will literally do whatever it takes to get what he wants — like have his own husband killed (although thankfully that was stopped at the last minute).
Abby Whelan
Abby definitely has her shady moments, she isn’t the worst of the bunch — rather no where close.
Although she’s stolen some things and manipulated certain situations, its Abby’s persistence that gets her what she wants.
Mellie Grant
We have a love-hate relationship with Mellie. At first, we hated her but honestly how can you hate a woman scorned?!
She’s dealt with her husband’s affair in such a civil and professional manner, but of course we can’t forget that she did so in order to advance her own political agenda.
Let’s not get it twisted, Mellie cannot be trusted but we can definitely have a drink with her and an impromptu dance party without worrying about her killing us.
Olivia Pope
Do we really have to break this one down at all? Ok, fine.
The only thing that differentiate’s Olivia from her dad is her humanity. Yes, Olivia is a “gladiator,” and helps people fix things, but let’s not get it twisted … in the process of “fixing” things she does some pretty questionable things.
She’s not entirely evil, but she’s like the manipulative best friend. You don’t know if she’s coming to your wedding bearing gifts or to dismantle your marriage.
Fitz Grant
We don’t really know how we feel about Fitz.
He mostly seems to be in la la land and oblivious about all the dirty things going on around him and when he finds out, he’s upset but doesn’t really do much about them.
Oh, we almost forgot — he’s an adulterer-er. Anyways, Fitz isn’t a very shady person at all. The worst thing he probably did was put an entire country in danger and go to war over his mistress, but hey, which one of us wouldn’t?
Huck
Oh sweet, angry, adorable, animalistic Huck. We feel sorry for Huck and absolve him of all his shady crimes.
He got turned into the person he is because of B613 and Olivia’s dad, but Huck is one loyal friend.
He only gets his hands dirty for the people he loves and cares deeply about, so he’s good in our book.
Jake Ballard
Jake … he is the definition of shady. This dude got introduced to us as a sweet, handsome, caring, gentle and just all-around good guy and then we find out it was all part of a game plan.
As if that part didn’t bring back traumatic memories of men we’ve dated in the past, Jake just continues to be untrustworthy.
We never know if his actions are genuine or influenced by Olivia’s dad. At least one thing we can be sure of — his love for Olivia.
Quinn Perkins
Well you had us fooled, Quinn!!! If that’s even your real name — which it isn’t.
It was a mistake to have her train with Huck because in a moment’s time she became just like him. But she’s a little shadier than Huck.
David Rosen
So David is one of the few people that actually is as kind as he comes off.
He’s the Attorney General, so naturally he tries to do the right thing even if it does mean exposing Olivia Pope and her little shenanigans, but once in a blue moon he will dibble and dabble on the dark side.
But it’s never really for his benefit, mostly just to save face and protect his friends.

Fans may be saying goodbye to Quinn Perkins when “Scandal” wraps its final season next month, but her real-life counterpart Katie Lowes is remaining a resident of Shondaland for the foreseeable future. However, this time the Tgit actress isn’t starring in a Shonda Rhimes’ series but is hosting the production company’s first-ever podcast.
“That’s right! I get to stay in Shondaland for ‘Katie’s Crib’ which is the best!” Lowes told People Thursday. The show will be mommy-centric.
“This whole thing of motherhood is insane. It’s a rollercoaster, which I love because the Shondaland logo is a rollercoaster. That’s basically how I feel every day,” Lowes joked.

The actress and husband Adam Shapiro welcomed their first child, son Albee, in October 2017.
“Shondaland approached me about it actually,” Lowes added. “They came to me and thought, ‘I feel like you’re going through this huge thing called motherhood and there are probably a lot of people that would benefit going through this stuff with you.’ It’s been amazing.”
The weekly podcast will feature fellow celebrity moms like Kristen Bell, Casey Wilson, Jennifer Finnigan, Angelique Cabral and June Diane Raphael.

In May, Shondaland executive producer Betsy Beers will also launch a podcast, called “Geri and Milli.” The series will navigate the generational gap between Beers (she calls herself “geriatric”) and her millennial guests with a humorous take. Beers and her guests will discuss cultural moments and how they’ve shaped each of their lives.
Both pods will be available on iTunes and other platforms, as well as on the Shondaland.com website. You can go ahead and subscribe to “Katie’s Crib” on iTunes now.
The final season of “Scandal” airs Thursdays at 10/9 c on ABC.
We have a podcast launching soon! Subscribe today to 'Katie's Crib,' a new podcast from #Scandal star @KatieQLowes, where she talks to special guests and experts about the hilarious highs and unexpected lows of motherhood and being a new parent. https://t.co/o1QRoXZmeS

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read ahead unless you’ve watched Thursday’s episode of “Scandal”) So now you know: Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) let a very pregnant Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes) die. Well, Olivia 100 percent thinks she did, which is pretty much the same thing. And while you may be able to find it in your heart of hearts to forgive “Scandal”s leading lady — yet again — Lowes tells TheWrap she doesn’t know if she can. Or rather, if Quinn can. During Thursday’s episode of the final season of the Shonda Rhimes drama, the cliffhanger-that-would-never-end finally resolved itself with a bittersweet twist. While...

Thursday’s Scandal winter premiere — the last premiere we’re ever getting from this show, so soak it in, folks! — wasted no time getting to the bottom of the fall finale’s big mystery: Is Quinn Perkins dead or alive?
Much to this skeptic recapper’s surprise, the answer was… dead. Quinn’s murder, confirmed by David Rosen, was apparently the result of two gunshots to the head. And the fate of her and Charlie’s baby was no more hopeful.
With Quinn’s fate now sealed, it was time to start pointing fingers: Jake blamed Rowan (“I hope it was worth it!
