Layla Jian Luo is a filmmaker based between China and the U.S.. She graduated with a MFA degree in Film Directing from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in 2018, and holds her BAs in Sociology from China Women's University, and Film/Video Studies from Purdue University.
At NYU, Layla directed her short films Nobody Says I Love You, Cheongsam and Ghost Tour, all selected to several international film festivals. Her latest short film, What Do You Know About the Water and the Moon, tells a magical realism story about a girl getting an abortion of a live jellyfish, has premiered as an Official Selection at the 2019 Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival and the 2019 Atlanta Film Festival.
Layla is the recipient of the Ang Lee grant and the Hollywood Foreign Press Award.
