A.L. Smith is a native Louisianan, graduate of Grambling State University, practicing Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist with a doctorate degree in nurse anesthesia practice, a published author and humanitarian. In 2010, she traveled to Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and provided anesthesia care for a countless number of victims, most of whom were children. The experience would have a tremendous impact on her views concerning socioeconomic disparity in this country and abroad. The experience would also provide inspiration for her critically acclaimed novel, "Behind Closed Doors 2: Dana's Story".
"Smith's voice is both sturdy and elegant, delivering blunt, edgy prose that's never lurid...an uncompromising but profound urban tale from an incisive author"---Kirkus
According to her readers, A.L. Smith has a knack for crafting Afrocentric tales and creating characters that transcend the final pages of her books. However, she realized early on that writing an exciting story and crafting a compelling synopsis are key components, but they are not guarantees to success in the ever-evolving and extremely competitive publication industry. In light of these findings, A.L. Smith has implemented an innovative approach to reaching her target audience through the power of visual media and the cinematic book trailer. In conjunction with up and coming cinematographer/director/writer Huey Rawls, the Dallas based author is determined to leave her mark on the world of urban fiction. The first trailer in her debut series, Behind Closed Doors, provides a compelling glimpse into the world of familial human trafficking. Her work on this project spawned her interest in the filmmaking industry.
