JL Monroy first launched his directing career to the public by showcasing his short films at the Cinemalaya Film Festival in 2015, dubbed as the country's most prestigious independent film festival, held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Shortly after, early in his 20s, he then became part of GMA Network's roster of directors creating high concept series and top-rating drama programs for the network.
Prior to directing, Jorron started out in the industry as a writer for a noontime Sunday musical-variety show "Party Pilipinas" which was launched in 2010, a program that replaced a decades-long running Filipino variety show, SOP. It marked the beginning of a new era for GMA Network and Philippine TV. He then later explored writing other genres such as comedy, lifestyle, and most notably, children's programs. He was the head writer and skit director of "Tropang Potchi", an award-winning Filipino children's show. It garnered international recognition, bagging a Silver World Medal from The New York Festivals, 2014 International Television & Film Awards.
Monroy ventured into commercials at the height of the pandemic in 2020 and has founded his own production house, Black House, acting as both Creative Director and CEO. As of present, the company has done TV and digital commercials for popular beauty and pharmaceutical brands in the Philippines. He has also directed a digital campaign for the international sports and lifestyle brand, NIKE.
Jorron Lee Monroy attended college at the University of the Philippines (Manila) taking up a degree in Organizational Communication (Bachelor of Arts).
