Mehrsa Baradaran and her sister Shima earned law degrees and later both taught at BYU's J. Reuben Clark Law School. Mehrsa has been a banking law professor at the University of Georgia. Shima taught criminal law at the University of Utah.
She earned her bachelor's degree cum laude from Brigham Young University and her law degree cum laude from NYU, where she served as a member of the New York University Law Review.
