Ashutosh Agnihotri is a Mumbai-based Indian origin screenwriter, author and lyricist whose work satirically or allegorically reflects upon themes including sociopolitical realms and philosophical and psychological paradigms. He is best known for writing Hindi feature Nirankush (2013) and short film Democracy (2018).
His early education took place in Sagar (M.P.) of central India. He belonged to a middle-class Brahman family and went through a studious upbringing around family values that had literature and cinema in high regards.
Exponentially adopting to cosmopolitanism during the decade of 90s, and spending two years in Pune learning Film-making, he approached to professional screenwriting and led to Mumbai in 2010 to debut with psychologically complex film Nirankush based loosely upon Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde; it was released in 2013. The movie contemplates upon four different phases of protagonist's life, who alters his personality from highly disciplined to ruthlessly chaotic and anarchist. He suffers the consequences as his new extreme influences a cluster of social force to ignite a vendetta.
From then, he has written several short-movies and critical articles of various films, media, and Indian society.
